Bam shows off its upcoming action game based on the popular Nick Park films.Bam Entertainment stopped by recently with builds of the PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions of its upcoming game based on Wallace and Gromit. The pair of characters, created by UK filmmaker Nick Park, first came to public attention in the short claymation film A Grand Day Out and have since starred in a number of shorts that have garnered critical acclaim. The action adventure game is being developed by Frontier Development and will put players in the role of Gromit the dog.
The game's story revolves around the pair's attempts to stop an insane penguin called Feathers McGraw. The evil, flightless bird has kidnapped all the baby animals in the local zoo in order to force the adult animals to make diamonds using a machine called diamond-o-matic. When Wallace and Gromit discover Feathers' scheme, the pair set out to stop him.
While the game puts you in direct control of Gromit, Wallace will be an integral part of gameplay as well. The pair will have a symbiotic relationship in the game, with Gromit doing the bulk of the work and Wallace pitching in with some help at key points. As mentioned, Gromit will be the game's action star, and he will have a wide array of moves. The perky dog will be able to run, jump, climb, swing, sneak, and manipulate switches. However, despite all his abilities, Gromit will have to rely on Wallace to help him progress through levels by fixing broken machines that impede his progress and by inventing useful items such as a porridge gun, a coal flinger, a banana launcher, a turnip cannon, and springy boots.
The game will be broken up into six massive levels whose settings will range from the different animal environments in the zoo to the mines where McGraw has the animals working for him. Each level will feature a number of baby animals to rescue along with secrets to discover.
The PlayStation 2 and Xbox versions of the game we saw featured comparable graphics that did an impressive job of capturing the unique claymation look of the characters. Wallace and Gromit's polygonal models looked quite close to their clay counterparts and animated pretty well. The environments were massive and featured a high level of detail and an art style that was reminiscent of the claymation shorts.
Wallace and Gromit is currently slated to ship this October for the GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox.

There will also be an ARCADE version of F-Zero created. It has been mentioned that there will be interactivity between the Gamecube and arcade versions, presumably by inserting your Gamecube memory card (with F-Zero gamesave) into the F-Zero arcade game! There are numerous possibilities for this, such as unlocking secret characters and tracks, and competing locally (or even worldwide!) for Gamecube time trials. More information will be posted here as it becomes available.
Batman: Dark Tomorrow

Kemco Europe has supplied us with some spanking new screenshots of the Gamecube version of Batman: Dark Tomorrow, a third-person action adventure based on the superhero comics series. In the game you have to complete various mission objectives, solve puzzles and, of course, beat up all kinds of foes. Weapons and gadgets like the Batarang, Batgrapple, Batcuffs, smoke pellets, mini-computers, night vision goggles and medi kits will surely help you along the way.Several heroes and villains are included in the game. Some of the heroes are Batman, Batgirl, Robin and Oracle while your favourite villains -- Joker, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Mr Freeze, Scarface, Killer Croc and Ratcatcher -- are also part of the show, along with a completely new, never before seen character in the game too. The script is written by DC Comics' Scott Petersen in collaboration with Kenjii Terada, who was responsible for the script of Final Fantasy I and II.
The Xbox and Gamecube versions of Batman: Dark Tomorrow are scheduled to be released this month in North America and next month in Europe.

Batman has had his fare share of crap games over the years. Return of the Joker and Batman & Robin for the PS one immediately come to mind as perfect examples of game companies taking the great license in vein (check out the May issue of the Official U.S. PlayStation Magazine's Worst Games Ever feature for quality descriptions of both).
Thankfully, the recent Batman Vengeance lived up to expectations, but still wasn't entirely enough to remedy the tarnished Batman image on the game consoles. But perhaps Batman Dark Tomorrow will. Not only do the graphics look quite cool in these early screenshots, but development is being overseen by Kenji Terada, famous for his work on Final Fantasy 1 and II for the Nintendo Entertainment System and Dark Wizard for the Sega CD.
On top of all this, the story itself sounds solid. As Kemco describes it, a full moon rises and Batman begins his nightly patrol to take back the streets of Gotham City from crime. Chaos fills the streets as Black Mask and his gang, the False Facers, battle for control of the city against Scarface and The Ventriloquist. After defeating the rival gangs, Batman learns that Commissioner Gordon has been mysteriously kidnapped from police headquarters.
With all clues pointing to Arkham Asylum, home for the criminally insane, Batman enters the depths of the Gotham City Sewer System to sneak in. Once inside, Batman must defeat some of his most dangerous foes--including Mr.Freeze, Poison Ivy and the Joker--in order to rescue Commissioner Gordon. But, has this all been just a decoy? Batman must solve the mysteries relating to the gang war and Arkham Asylum to find the mastermind behind these seemingly unrelated events and save the fate of the world. You go, Batman!
As for the gameplay, it's described as a third-person perspective action-adventure title that combines hand-to-hand combat, stealth, and trap evasion. In true Batman style, our hero will frequently use gadgets and devices such as the Batarang, Batgrapple, Batcuffs, minicomputer, universal tool, smoke pellets, and more. Also, he's equipped with night-vision lenses.
We'll deliver more details as Batman Dark Tomorrow's release approaches.

Performance
The controller performs remarkably well and you'll likely see an improvement in your gameplay. Great arcade feel. The drawbacks is that it only simulates D-Pad support. 9.2
Build Quality
Consider this first party quality as far as the design and assembly goes. Its constructed beautifully and plays like a dream, although the flat surface may cause some chafing on your wrist. 9.0
Value
At $70 it won't break the bank, but you may have to put off getting a game or two to be able to afford it. If a deeper Soul Calibur II experience is worth giving up Splinter Cell or Burnout 2 to you. 7.0
Features
This controller looks cool and is the way to own on Soul Calibur II. If you're looking for a serious way to play the best fighting game out on GameCube, you need a joystick, and this is it. 9.0
Overall Rating (Not an average) 9.0
At the time of its conception, Soul Calibur was a fighting game like no other. With incredible graphics, unsurpassed motion capture animation, and a solid fighting engine, Soul Calibur went far and beyond any 3D fighting game of that generation, and was truly a taste of the future. Receiving raves from all around, Soul Calibur earned a well-deserved reputation, becoming the only Dreamcast game to ever garner a perfect 10 from popular gaming site IGN.
Well games come and go, and that taste of the future is now upon us. To celebrate this new beginning, Namco is bringing the sequel to their revolutionary Soul Calibur series, with the announcement of Soul Calibur 2. Expecting to break new grounds in the versus fighter genre, as well as keep old fans happy, Namco is bringing Soul Calibur 2 to all next-generation consoles, including the Nintendo GameCube.
The Goodies
The story behind Soul Calibur is not one that exactly possesses the seeds of originality. The quick version is as follows: A group of contestants battle to obtain the mystical sword of evil known as Soul Edge, and each of them seek it for their own personal reasons. Although the story may seem dull, each character boasts their own unique story, and all of them are intertwined in some way. For more information regarding the Soul Calibur story, you can visit www.soulcalibur.com, in which there is an extensive bibliography of the original characters. Take note that the story is some 15 chapters long, so dont forget to bring the popcorn.
To refresh some foggy memories out there, the original Soul Calibur was a jaw-dropping 3D fighting game that involved characters from the 16th century battling each other. The fighting engine was unique in the way that each character had dozens upon dozens of moves to choose from. This resulted in the ability to pull of some really painful combos with a few taps of a button. Many people complained that the game was too much of a button-masher, as an amateur could sometimes get away with beating a seasoned veteran. Although a few new moves have been added, and some rebalancing has been made between characters, Soul Calibur 2 plays much like its popular predecessor. Old fighters even retain some of their old combos, but with new moves included, some experienced fans can easily pick up the controls and conjure up even more hard hitting combinations.
Not all information concerning Soul Calibur 2 has been released, so several fighters who are new to scene remain unknown. But from what we do know, there will be several considerable adversaries combating each other. Here is a list of the characters announced to appear in the sequel.
Astaroth
Cassandra Alexandra (New character)
Isabella Valentine
Heishiro Mitsurugi
Hon Yun Tsun (New character)
Hwang Sung Kyung
Kilik
Nightmare
Siegfried Schtauffen
Taki
Tarim (New character)
Xianghua
Another interesting addition to the Soul Calibur series does not lie within the new options to the game, but the technical changes made. The game utilizes a new animating technique, which the developers call motion blending. This technique involves characters moving specific body parts somewhat individually from each other. Thats not to say well be seeing some eerie 360 head rotations from contestants. What this means is that the same attack a fighter makes may look different, depending on the stance they are in, or the movement they are currently doing. This method of animation makes character actions more believable, and makes the game more realistic then ever before.
The Graphics
Despite complaints from people concerning the fighting engine, there was one aspect of Soul Calibur that was never in dispute; and that was the game was absolutely stunning. With unsurpassed motion capture, enormously high-polygon characters, and sharp-to-the-point-of-painful textures, these factors all blended together to create a fighting experience like no other. Even if you find the fighting aspect to be rather bland, Soul Calibur is all about the presentation, and Namco hopes to keep up this tradition with Soul Calibur 2. Levels have been completely redesigned, with newer looking, and hopefully interactive, environments. Every contour and every muscle has been crafted out of hundreds, if not thousands, of polygons. Lets hope Namco makes use of the GameCubes high texture cache, and bump-mapping capabilities.
My Two Cents
The first time that I saw Soul Calibur, I almost wet myself. It was difficult to believe that such a gorgeous game could work on any existing console. But I was standing there, and I was believing it. Although the game was a pure treat for the eyes, I found that the fighting system left a little too much to be desired. For starters, each character had too many moves to remember, something that is completely vital in versus fighters. I desperately tried to find some sort of system to memorize these moves, but to no avail, which resulted in me bashing the buttons every time. The sad part is, I still won from time to time. I have yet to find someone who is good enough to beat my button mashing technique every time. Well Namco is working on Soul Calibur 2, and even though I never liked the first one (gameplay-wise), I could not be happier. I could see the potential in the first, and I hope Namco does what they can to make the sequel more game-ish, and less luck-ish. Stupid words, but my point remains. But what if Namco doesnt improve on the fighting system? Well there will still be thousands upon thousands of fanatics out there who will jump on the game anyway. Either way, I cant wait to see what Namco has in store for us for the future.

I can't view screenshots on GameSpot. Screens on every other Internet site I visit are OK. What's going on?
Chances are that ad blocking or firewall software on your computer is blocking them. A common culprit is Kazaa Lite, which has a large list of blocked sites, including Image.com.com. GameSpot screenshots are served from Image.com.com. For assistance in unblocking Image.com.com from your ad blocking or firewall software, please consult your software's manual or publisher. Here is one suggestion that may help:
You can remove the entry line that contains image.com.com from the hosts file. It will look something like this:
# 127.0.0.1 image.com.com
In Win 2000 the hosts file is in: %SYSTEMDRIVE%\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\, XP is similar. Just be sure not to edit hosts.sam because it is only a sample file.
Caution: Editing your registry can cause serious problems that may require reinstalling the operating system on your PC. GameSpot (and CNET Networks) is not responsible for any problems resulting from using the Windows Registry Editor--please use it at your own risk. As well, GameSpot recommends that you back up your host file before you edit it.
de host file heeft geen extensie en kan je openen met oa notepad. 10 sec werk en je kan alle screenshots wel zien.
