British Prime Minister Keir Starmer appealed to the National Security Council with a request to develop a project of wider support for Ukraine, reported The Sunday Times with reference to sources at the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom.
Sources of journalists noted that the head of the British government called for the development of a strategy not only for military aid to Ukraine, but also industrial, economic and diplomatic.
"If [Vladimir] Putin succeeds in Ukraine he’s not going to stop there. But also the economic implications of that are massive, because we all saw how heavily Britain got hit when he first invaded," said one of the sources.
London has already created a special group that will build a unified British policy towards Ukraine, The Sunday Times writes. It includes representatives of the Ministry of Defense and Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom.
On August 15, 2024, the British Ministry of Defense stated that Ukraine can use weapons received from the country in operations on Russian soil, but restrictions on the use of long-range Storm Shadow missiles remain.
On August 17, The Times wrote that the United States is effectively preventing Ukraine from using British long-range Storm Shadow missiles to strike Russian territory because of President Joe Biden's fears about a possible escalation of the conflict.

In July, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, due to the Russian offensive in Donetsk Oblast, began planning a secret operation on the territory of the aggressor state, simultaneously considering three possible attack scenarios, reports The Economist with reference to knowledgeable sources.
According to the interlocutors of the journalists, these options included an attack in the Bryansk or Kursk oblasts, as well as their combination, in order to weaken Russia's position in Donbas and provide more favorable conditions for future negotiations.
Syrskyi kept his plans strictly secret, sharing them only with a narrow circle of generals and security service personnel. Only at a late stage was intelligence involved in the plan, and the Western allies were not informed at all, because previous operations by Syrskyi had been thwarted by leaks, notes The Economist.

The Texas-based oilfield services company SLB is expanding its operations in Russia, filling the vacancy left by Western competitors, the Financial Times (FT) reported on Aug. 15.
SLB, previously known as Schlumberger, is the world's largest offshore drilling company. It continued to operate in Russia after the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, even as other oil giants left the country.
SLB's Russian subsidiary signed new contracts and posted over 1,000 job postings within the last year, the FT reports.
The nonprofit organization Global Witness obtained documents, seen by the FT, that show SLB in December 2023 entered into a contract with Vnigni, a Russian state-funded institution that conducts geological research for fossil fuel production.
The company has advertised over 1,000 new jobs in Russia since December 2023. Open positions include drivers, chemists, and geologists.
Russian corporate databases also show that SLB registered two new trademarks in July 2024.
SLB announced in July 2023 that it would immediately stop all shipments of products and technology from its facilities into Russia in response to growing sanctions on the Russian oil industry. In their announcement, SLB joined "the international community in condemning and calling for an end to the war in Ukraine."
Russian customs filings show that while SLB did stop importing supplies from its facilities abroad, it continued to import products and technology from other sources. Of $17.5 million in equipment shipped between August and December 2023, $2.2 million was declared to have originally been manufactured by SLB.
Ukraine's National Agency on Corruption Prevention (NACP) has labeled SLB an "international sponsor of war" for its continued business in Russia.
The Russian fossil fuel industry is a primary economic driver of Moscow's full-scale war against Ukraine. Ukraine has made a concerted effort to target Russian oil production with long-range drone strikes.

The Biosphere Reserve Askania-Nova in the temporarily occupied Kherson Oblast actually no longer exists, as the Russian occipation forces "looted" it completely, Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson regional military administration, said in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
Asked whether it is known in what state the reserve is now, the official said that the Russian troops are destroying it.
"The last thing I heard was that they are taking the animals to Crimea and Russia. That is, we can say that the reserve no longer exists. They robbed it thoroughly," said Prokudin.

Voor iemand die een ander beschuldigd van gebrek aan taktisch inzicht is het wellicht handig om eens op de kaart te kijken zodat het je in een opzicht duidelijk wordt dat de inval in Kurks geen enkel effect heeft op de bevoorradingssituatie in de Donbas.quote:

Oorlog is voornamelijk logistiek En dankzij de aanval in Kurk verlicht men de druk op het front in de donbass. "I think we will reach the point this week that we make the evacuation of children mandatory," he added. The obligatory evacuation of children and their families from the Pokrovsk community was announced later the same day by Governor Vadym Filashkin.

On August 19, Berlin announced a new batch of weapons for Ukraine.
The full list of military aid was supplemented by:
→ one IRIS-T SLS air defense system (three delivered in total, nine remaining);
→ 14,000 155 mm rounds (180,000 in total);
→ 10 surface drones (50 in total);
→ 26 VECTOR reconnaissance drones (288 in total);
→ material for explosive ordnance disposal;
→ six engineer excavators;
→ one armoured recovery vehicle Bergepanzer 2 with spare parts (22 in total);
→ 55,000 first-aid kits (655,000 in total);
→ 700 MK 556 assault rifles (3125 in total);
→ 10 HLR 338 sniper rifles (250 in total);
→ 50 CR 308 rifles (total 531).
The German Finance Ministry does not plan to approve additional aid to Ukraine as part of budget savings, the German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung claims. Ukraine will receive aid in the amounts previously approved, but additional applications from the German Ministry of Defense will not be approved.
In 2024, military aid to Ukraine from Germany should amount to 8 billion euros and is already planned in advance. The limit will be reduced to 4 billion euros in 2025, to 3 billion euros in 2026, and to 500 million euros in 2027 and 2028.

Ukrainian Defense Forces have recently hit three Russian Msta-S self-propelled howitzers in the Donetsk region.
In particular, one of them was hit in the temporarily occupied Avdiivka.
The military published a video of their combat work on their social media accounts.
Previously, UAV operators of the 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Marko Bezruchko used FPV drones to engage a Russian 152 mm Msta-S self-propelled artillery system in the Donetsk region.

Lal said the conflict in Ukraine would also be discussed, and reiterated that New Delhi was willing to provide any support it can in pursuit of peace.
"Lasting peace can only be achieved through options that are acceptable to both parties. And it can only be a negotiated settlement," he said.
Zelenskiy's office said he and Modi would discuss bilateral and multilateral cooperation and that a "number of documents" were expected to be signed.

To obtain intelligence, the traitor used his own official position, and exploited his colleagues who were unaware of his criminal intentions.

The Danish government has announced a new aid package worth about DKK 783 million ($116 million) to support Ukraine’s military needs.
The press service of the Danish government said that this package was aimed at meeting both short-term and long-term defense needs of Ukraine.

Rusland moet nu vanuit geheel Rusland, en ook delen van het bezette gebied en het front soldaten en materieel halen voor de verdediging van Kursk.
Dus waar zijn de soldaten en waar is het matrieel dat zij zouden kunnen gebruiken voor het openen van een geheel nieuw (zwaar beveiligde) front in Wit-Rusland volgens jou?

The battalion’s 400 or so marines “are at the forefront of combat missions,” the unit stated. But that wasn’t always the case. The 501st Battalion has an unfortunate history of avoiding combat. In that sense, the Kursk campaign is an opportunity for redemption.
The 501st Marine Battalion was part of the Ukrainian garrison in Crimea when Russian troops invaded the strategic peninsula in 2014. As outgunned Ukrainian forces fled the peninsula, just 64 of the 501st Marine Battalion’s personnel joined them. The others—potentially hundreds in all—voluntarily stayed in Crimea, effectively siding with the peninsula’s Russian occupiers.
The Ukrainian defense ministry rebuilt the 501st Marine Battalion. Eight years later, in the early months of Russia’s wider invasion of Ukraine, the battalion joined the garrison in Mariupol on the Black Sea coast.
Russian troops laid siege to Mariupol, ruthlessly starving and bombing the city’s garrison as well as its civilian population. The main garrison—more than 2,000 strong—held out for three months, eventually falling back to the Azovstal steel plant before finally surrendering in late May 2022 when food, ammunition and medicine ran out.
The 501st Marine Battalion was not among the final holdouts. Instead, it gave up six weeks earlier during the first week of April.
