SOUTHPORT - De Britse politie heeft een man opgepakt en een mes in beslag genomen na een melding van een steekpartij in Southport, ten noorden van Liverpool. De autoriteiten spreken over „meerdere slachtoffers”, maar hebben volgens Britse media nog geen bijzonderheden bekendgemaakt over de slachtoffers.
De verdachte is overgebracht naar een politiebureau. De politie roept burgers op het gebied te mijden.

A woman who lives nearby told the Liverpool Echo she heard sirens and a helicopter circling at about 12:20 BST.
"Then the messages started to go around the local WhatsApp groups, saying 'lock your windows, lock your doors', we were told a man was running around stabbing people," she said.
"We are all absolutely terrified, panicking and sick with worry - everyone is trying to reach anyone they know in the area. I don't know how this can happen on a Monday lunchtime."

Volgens een ooggetuige verslag van iemand op locatie net op Sky News zou het een "Nursery" zijn wat is aangevallen en daar zijn de kinderen neergestoken.

Journalist Tim Johnson of Eye on Southport arrived at the scene about 20 minutes after the police had been called.
He says the incident happened at the Hope of Hart children's club, which is down a back street in a former warehouse building.
He says the victims were children, and describes one girl on a stretcher covered in blood.
"Her parents were running after her. It was horrendous. I’ve never seen anything like it.
"There were so many police cars. It was a mass of blue lights.
"I saw ambulance men and women in tears. People were in tears in the streets."
