Proposal aims to stop Kremlin flooding bloc with cheap wheat to destabilise European market
The EU is set to impose a tariff of up to 50% on Russia grain imports amid fears the Kremlin could flood the bloc with cheap wheat to destabilise the European market.
The proposal, announced by the European commission president, Ursula von der Leyen, follows a plea on Thursday to EU leaders by the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, to do something about grain “stolen” by the Russians from occupied territories.

A teacher of a Zaporizhzhya university has set up an "observation point" at his dacha, which he used to spy on the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor-General.
Ateacher of a university in Zaporizhzhya was found guilty of distributing information about the deployment of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (part 3 of article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He was sentenced to 9 years of imprisonment.
In court, the prosecutor proved that the man deliberately set up an "observation point" at his own dacha, located near the contact line in Zaporizhzhya," the report said.
The convict, disguised as a dacha dweller, visited a garden community and collected information about the locations of deployment, movement of the AFU and military equipment in the Zaporizhzhya direction.
He sent the information to the representative of the aggressor country via Telegram.
The man will be kept in custody until the verdict enters into legal force.

In their attempts to seize Western armored vehicles, Russian invaders are dying en masse under the fire of the Ukrainian military.
Despite numerous statements by Russian propagandists about the imperfections of Western tanks, Russia has a significant interest in them. This is due to both a demonstration of its own success and a desire to explore Western technologies.
To get the coveted trophy, the Russian military sends its soldiers on risky missions, which often ends in death.

quote:Ukraine's Strikes on Russian Refineries Follow NATO Practices, Says Deputy PM
Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna defends Ukraine's strikes on Russian oil refineries.
Olha Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, stated that oil refineries in Russia are legitimate targets for the Ukrainian military.
She added that in this case, Ukraine is acting in accordance with NATO standards.
Speaking at the Kyiv Security Forum, Stefanishyna addressed reports about the US advising Ukraine against strikes on Russian oil refineries.
She remarked, "The Ukrainian side responded, I think, by mentioning that it was achieving its goals and carrying out very successful operations on the territory of the Russian Federation."
"Conversely, there have also been statements from other officials that these are absolutely legitimate targets from a military point of view. We understand the concerns of our American partners. At the same time, we have to make the most of the capabilities, resources and methods that we have," the Deputy Prime Minister added.
She recalled her February 2022 communication with NATO headquarters, seeking support for a ‘no-fly zone’ over Ukraine.
"They told me, 'Olha, you don't understand NATO methods.' These methods prioritize the destruction of infrastructure within the aggressor country that enables attacks on cities in the targeted country, including missile production facilities. Thus, we are adhering to NATO's best practices."
Reflecting on the Russian attack on 22 March, Stefanishyna expressed her expectation for support from partners: "Outrage and condolences are one thing, but we expect weapons first and foremost."

Admiral Rob Bauer, Chair of the NATO Military Committee, has said that the Alliance countries are prepared for a potential direct clash with Russia.

Details: Admiral Bauer stated that NATO acknowledged a change in the security situation in 2014, following Russia's occupation of Crimea. In 2019, the Allies began to return to collective security by changing their defence strategy, operational planning, and the forces required to carry out all of these missions.
Quote: "We are all aware that time is of the essence when it comes to reestablishing collective security. Because the enemy determines when and where to attack you, as well as the length of the conflict. Unfortunately, Ukraine has experienced this.

Fearing attacks by Ukrainian strike drones, the Russian maritime port known as the "Big Port of St. Petersburg" has ceased transshipment of ammonium nitrate, as reported by the Russian media outlet Kommersant.
According to Kommersant, authorities in St. Petersburg plan to relocate ammonium nitrate transshipment operations altogether to a location outside the city, likely to Ust-Luga. However, the latter is not yet ready to receive the material, as the port requires infrastructure modernisation.

Russia is creating a force of 100,000 soldiers, possibly to conduct a new offensive in early summer, Ukraine's Ground Forces Commander Oleksandr Pavliuk said on national television on March 22.
The Armed Forces withdrew in February from several settlements in Donetsk Oblast, including the key front-line city of Avdiivka, due to severe ammunition shortages exacerbated by delays in U.S. aid.
Heavy battles continue in Kherson, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhizhia oblasts as Russian troops try to continue their advance.
Pavliuk noted that the new force Russia is mustering might also serve another purpose: "Maybe they (Russia) will use them to replenish units that are losing their combat capability."
Russian troops continue their assault attempts in the Bakhmut, Lyman, and Avdiivka directions of the front, according to Pavliuk. In Sumy Oblast, Russian forces are not preparing any new military formations but target civilian infrastructure to threaten citizens, he added.
"I think we will do everything we can to stop them (Russian attacks)," Pavliuk said.

Restricted media in areas under the Kremlin's influence and control have suffered further since the invasion of Ukraine.
Reporters Without Borders have launched a satellite that will provide coverage to 13 territories where Russian speakers suffer restricted access to free media.
The satellite allows nine Russian-language TV and radio channels to be broadcast on Eutelsat’s popular Hotbird satellite to territories including Russia, occupied territories of Ukraine and Baltic countries.
The launch comes ahead of Belarus' Freedom Day, an anniversary marking the foundation of the Belarusian Democratic Republic in 1918 that is widely celebrated by the Belarusian diaspora and supporters of the country's democratic opposition.
Poland will host a celebration to mark the day on 25 March, starting at Plac Trzech Krzyzy square in Warsaw.
Belarusian, Polish, and Ukrainian officials will attend a rally ahead of the event, before marching towards the monument of Nicolaus Copernicus.

The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has thwarted “multiple terrorist attacks” in Russia and occupied Ukraine by pro-Ukraine fighters over the course of the week, it said in a press release on Friday.
The message comes amid recent incursions into Russian regions bordering Ukraine by fighters of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RVC) and the Freedom of Russia Legion, paramilitary groups of Russian fighters based in Ukraine.
The FSB said its officers had detained seven men in Moscow on Friday for attempting to form a cell of the RVC, which is outlawed in Russia. The officers seized a machete, a battle axe, an air gun, eight knives and communications equipment, on which they said they found evidence of “active correspondence” between the suspects and RVC leaders.
Another message said the FSB had prevented a “terrorist attack” in the occupied Zaporizhzhia region of southeastern Ukraine. The suspect in the case, who was allegedly involved in the murder of a Russian military officer and had passed details of Russian military positions to Ukraine, resisted arrest, according to the FSB, and was killed in an exchange of fire.
The FSB also announced several other arrests this week, including a woman arrested in annexed Crimea on Monday for planning to set fire to railway infrastructure “at the behest of the Ukrainian secret services” and a man detained in the Russian border region of Belgorod on Thursday for “adhering to Ukrainian nationalist ideology”.
