Finse/Westerse leger vs Russische leger
===================================================
Most are reservists that have basic Finnish military training, this is their first real action. There was one AMA in r/Suomi and at least that reservist said that he appreciates Finnish military much more now, that the training he received was well sufficient. He did say that older UA commanders are too "soviet style" but the younger, who joined military after 2014 are excellent. They have similar tactics that makes things MUCH easier; there is large independence, they are handed out tasks, with information also WHY it is done, what is the purpose of it and the units have the freedom to decide how to actually do the job, and they order the support and resources they want. It is not top down and it allows a LOT of improvisation and opportunities are instantly utilized without further talks with HQ.
Knowing why it is done gives the troops on the ground even more options how to actually do it; making a Russian concentration of forces unable to fight does not mean attack them head on. It can also mean bugging them down, remove their resources and wait a day or two... Stopping them to advance to point X because artillery is setting up there gives the unit tasked more options. They can redirect the attacking forces elsewhere. It gives them the freedom to select WHERE and WHEN the fight happens. Russians will go at 09:00 to X.Y and that is it. Either they win X.Y or they get lost of casualties; to a Russian officer it is the same thing, all they care is that they fill the orders. Not attacking at 09:00 but at 10:00 because it is massively beneficial? Nope, you are in trouble if you don't get deaths on either side from the 09:00 attack. This is why they have used that one airfield about.. 22-24 times, i don't know anymore. They also tried to build a bridge 4 times on exact same place near Izium. Each time UA artillery bombed them to bits. And each day another
pioneer unit was there, constructing a pontoon bridge. It might've take 5 days to get the information where it needed to go so that they stopped truing.
There are so many advantages from the modern kind of structure that it is how pretty much all armies now operate, so it is not that special but once again.. we see the results between intelligent, thinking armies vs top down rigid structure that micromanages from a far. There are some differences where UA can still improve, Finnish style is to first request supplies and resources and while waiting those to arrive, to train and prepare to be ready to move the moment those resources arrive. UA still waits for resources and then prepares for the mission. It would make it even faster but what they are doing is well sufficient, there is no great need to change. This independent, task oriented and well informed system also means that if the unit leader is incapacitated or killed, the rest of the unit still can do the task. Russians... can't do shit since NO ONE IS TOLD ANYTHING,
just in case they start to use their own heads. If they lose connection to the one issuing commands for some reason, they are 100% fucked.

Finnish presumption how a war with Russia goes
===================================================
our airforces and air defense will put a hell of a fight, then lose. Enemy will push forwards all the time, we are going to chew up as much of them as possible. Then we run out of stuff and have to give up the active war and move to second war, guerilla action, sabotage and so on. And all of this happens as other nations look with their thumbs in the mouths and say "bad bad Russia".. That is how we are raised, to fight like hell and to eventually lose, alone. But the fight we are prepared to have is a deterrent alone, it raises the costs of invading to a scale where it is no way worth it..

Finnish army train people like there is 24/7 surveillance overhead with heat cameras and spetsnaz commando ssearching the forests just praying for someone to light a cigar to see the burning in the darkness and call an immediate bombardment.
