A SOUTH & Central American Qualifier will be held in Brazil next month for a player to win a spot in the 2017/2018 William Hill World Darts Championship.

The knockout will be open to players from 30 countries across South and Central America, and comes following the success of the inaugural Brazil team at the World Cup of Darts in June.

Diogo Portela - the UK-based Brazilian who is competing on the PDC circuit - was joined by fellow countryman Alexandre Sattin (pictured) in Frankfurt, with the pair defeating Switzerland before losing out to Germany.

A number of players from the region have previously competed in the World Championship, notably Guyana's Norman Madhoo and Sudesh Fitzgerald and Barbados' Anthony Forde and Winston Cadogan.

The Qualifier will be held on Saturday September 23 at the Girasol Plaza Hotel in Palmas in the Tocantins area of Brazil.

Entry Fee: $75 with entry deadline of Saturday September 9.

Phil Taylor doet komende maand mogelijk niet mee aan de World Grand Prix. Een verslaggever van Live-Darts.com meldt dat het ‘dubbel in, dubbel uit’ toernooi in Dublin niet in zijn programma staat.

De 16-voudig wereldkampioen zou begin dit jaar zijn speelschema aan de PDC hebben doorgegeven, waarop dus de World Grand Prix ontbreekt. In dat geval zou Taylor voorafgaand aan het WK alleen nog in actie komen op de Champions League of Darts,World Series of Darts Finals en de Grand Slam of Darts.

Een mogelijke afzegging van Taylor is goed nieuws voor Ronny Huybrechts. Aangezien alle geplaatste spelers dan een plekje opschuiven, zou de Belg op de zestiende plek van de Pro Tour-ranking terechtkomen. Met nog één toernooi dat meetelt voor de World Grand Prix-ranking te gaan, lijken de kansen voor Huybrechts op een debuut in Dublin dus te worden vergroot.

SEIGO ASADA has won the PDJ Japanese Qualifier to secure a William Hill World Darts Championship debut in December.

A semi-finalist in last year's Japanese qualifying event, the 37-year-old from Osaka this time went all the way as he earned his first Alexandra Palace appearance.

Asada enjoyed three 4-1 wins on his way to the final, defeating Noriyuki Negishi, Toyokazu Shibata and Shingo Enomata, before producing his best display of the event in a 5-2 defeat of Yuya Higuchi.

Asada - nicknamed The Ninja - landed a 180 in the opening leg and took out 76 as he doubled his lead before missed doubles in leg three allowed Higuchi to respond.

Another 180 and an 83 finish gave Asada a 3-1 lead, with Higuchi replying with a 14-darter only to see his rival prove too strong in the next two with six scores of a 100 or better as legs of 17 and 14 darts sealed his win.

Asada previously competed in the 2016 Tokyo Darts Masters as he made his World Series of Darts debut, losing out to Gary Anderson, and is also a three-time Lakeside Championship qualifier and four-time Japan Open winner.
