Pinkpop vindt dit jaar niet plaats in het Pinksterweekend maar op 10-11-12 juni 2016. Het festival zal in 2016 voor de 47ste keer plaatsvinden, een uniek record. Sinds 1990 is Pinkpop opgenomen in het Groot Guinness Book Of Records als het oudste onafgebroken georganiseerde popfestival in Nederland, (maar volgens velen zelfs van Europa).
Het festival duurt tegenwoordig drie dagen en trekt per dag ongeveer 68.000 mensen. Sinds de eerste editie heeft het festival ruim anderhalf miljoen bezoekers gehad en hebben er meer dan 500 verschillende artiesten en bands opgetreden
