Just caught up with Netherlands... I was just thinking Wilson Philips when I started reading the same here. It's better than I expected but not my thing - they just need to pull of the harmonies on the night.
Funnily, in a way this reminds me of Loreen, in that it isn’t a good/catchy song musically but they milk the hell out of what they have. Loreen turns it into compelling stage art and O’G3ne do more key changes, harmonies and fake endings that you can shake a stick out. Neither song is made for the radio/repeat listens but both are built to (potentially) be very compelling on stage.
I have to say The Netherlands' entry has really grown on me. The last minute or so is killer.
I really like that actually. It's better than most of their singles that they have released. Should be a qualifier, yes it's a ballad but their harmonies will make it stand out from the other ballads.
I expected it to be a BIT Wilson Phillips, but wowIt's dated as all hell, but I do find it quite rousing and the harmonies are beautiful. Should qualify I think.
The harmonies are great but the problem with them is you can't pick out the melody when the 3 of them are harmonising. So it's impossible to sing along to or get stuck in your head.

Bij O'G3NE komt ondanks het thema de emotie niet over, bij mij tenminste. Maar puur omdat het zo razend moeilijk te zingen is zou het op basis van jurypunten de finale wel moeten kunnen halen... maar ja, die jury's he.

Those harmonies, I even can’t. You can tell OG3NE has been singing together for a long time, they know their voices well and how to properly harmonize. Needless to say that I’m a big fan of the voices. But there is more to this song and the way it builds and builds is just perfection. This is a pearl and just a wonderful piece, Wilson Phillips 2017 (look it up, “Hold On” is a classic). Excellent production and execution, the Dutch did it again and I’m in love with it.

You have to love how OG3NE scream the second coming of Wilson Phillips and their song is likely a reference to the 90s act’s second album “Shadows and Light”. If Eurovision was simply based upon vocal capabilities, the ladies would be a definite top candidate for the win. However, the song feels dated, like something that should have appeared on an early-90s Wilson Philips album and could have competed with the likes of MeKaDo in 1994. However, let’s be honest: the song is simply a vehicle to showcase the fantastic vocals of the ladies. The Dutch have been prone to a bipolar approach to staging (i.e., either great or horrible), so let’s hope for the best!

This is a song, and what kind of song! Song starts no promising until the first refrain and culmination – when they take it, and don’t leave . The message is very important, also I like the way their voices are combined. Modern, powerful and quality – three words. With a bit of HQ stage effects, this song will look great on the Eurovision stage!
Calvin – 7 Points
Much of the praise this entry has received has come from two factors: first, the genuine, authentic feel of the lyrics, written for their terminally ill mother. I definitely get this too. The lyrics feel like the honest thoughts of a young woman about the situation. The production is maybe a bit too heavy-handed in parts, but the soul still comes through. The other aspect is their harmonies, which I’m less fond of. They aren’t as well-balanced as I’d like them to be, but this could be just a sound mixing problem that gets fixed by Kyiv. It’s a very sweet effort in the end.
Robert – 6 Points
This trio of sisters have given us something with a rather excellent build. It bursts properly into life just over halfway through but still keeps the listener’s attention through the first part. It will be interesting to see if they can keep the harmonising up well live as it will be quite the challenge, but if they pull that off, they could do rather well. Its main problem is that it is a somewhat easily forgettable song and if they end up early in the running order, then that could hurt them badly as it risks getting overshadowed (pardon the pun!). The song style is not one which massively appeals to me, but I appreciate that it’s been done well and I certainly enjoy parts of it. Should be a fun entry to watch!
Ferdi – 6 Points
I had high hopes for my own country as soon as I heard O’G3NE would represent us. Their voices just go amazing together! The song however isn’t as great. It’s a solid ballad but it kind of fades away amongst the other ballads. Beautiful lyrics and great voices, though.
Sean – 5 Points
A 90s RnB album called, it wants its filler back! Now to be fair, the sisters have a great vocal and harmonise well between the trio, but the song itself is a dud. It doesn’t take me to an exciting place or anywhere at all really. I can see why it has its fans, but in a year where a fair few countries have opted to take it slow I can’t see this one standing out enough to make an impact on the scores. Perfectly average for me.

Don’t get me wrong: OG3NE has amazing vocals. Their impeccable harmonies are sure to get them a good amount of points at Eurovision. However, the song itself isn’t all that impressive. It’s incredibly forgettable; even after listening to this dozens of times, the lyrics and the melody just don’t stick. That just doesn’t bode very well for the trio.

I’ve expected so much more from this girls. I wanted to hear something that could bring me up, but it’s rather dull… 🙁 Since the song is written by their father, it should have been much better.

I understand why Eurovision fans, long have wanted these 3 girls to sing for Netherlands, they are in complete harmony. They are even sisters, I might give them some cheap points now, but it’s like angels singing. On the other hand, as sweet the song is, the song does not capture me. I just can’t stand ballads, I find them so boring, and that’s just how it is. The girls are indeed talented together, but it doesn’t save the song for me.

Het is prachtig als echt goeie stemmen goed scoren op een songfestival, maar ze doen dat wel alleen met een sterk lied. Na Anouk, Common Linnets en Douwe Bob zijn we wat te automatisch gaan rekenen op een onontkoombare Nederlandse inzending, vrees ik.
Caren Meynen: Het lied dat Nederland dit jaar stuurt is heel clich, maar ik hou ervan. Ik zat zelf in een koor en heb een zwak voor meerstemmige zangpartijen. De meisjes van OG3NE zijn daar echt heel sterk in. Ik volg hen al sinds ze in The Voice zaten. En ik hoop zo hard dat ze op het festival live zo hard uitpakken met die geweldige stemmen van hen, want een clichlied of niet, ze kunnen een stukje zingen, deze meiden. Misschien kunnen we hem uitnodigen voor een interview Ik denk niet dat hij dit leest en zich daar ook niet heel erg mee bezig houdt. Og3ne zelf ook niet vermoed ik en dat heeft dan weer te maken met het volgende gok ik zo. In een interview zei n van de dames dat ze uitgaan van eigen kracht. Ze geloven heel erg in wat ze doen. En het is ook niet zo, dat ze niks te doen hebben en geen succes hebben (wat is het hebben van succes? dat is voor iedereen anders). Ok ze scoren dan wel geen grote hits, maar als je een populaire talentenjacht wint, een album hebt die toch ff op #1 stond en je in uitverkochte zalen staat (dit doen ze als n van de weinige ex-deelnemers toch wel goed hoor), krijg je dan ook wel bevestigd dat waarin je zo gelooft,....eigenlijk gewoon goed is. Als er dan een keer terechte kritiek is, is dat misschien wat makkelijker weg te wuiven, want ja, waarom zou je er een andere aanpak op los laten als het momenteel zo lekker gaat? Als Lights and Shadows (of eigenlijk de act en samenzang) straks goed scoort, hebben ze weer de bevestiging gekregen (en terecht he
). Ze hebben eerder samengewerkt met Britse songwriters voor hun single Take the money and run. Wat gedurfder dan de vorige singles en kwam regelmatig voorbij op 538 en Q geloof ik, maar deed verder niet veel in de hitlijsten. Vind het wel belangrijk dat een artiest iets doet, waar hij/zij zelf in gelooft (want dan ga je er 100% voor en kom je geloofwaardig over), ook al vertaalt zich dat niet direct naar succes in de hitlijsten. Maarrrrrr...als je hier echt grote/goede songwriters en producers op zet, dan geloof ik zeker dat je van og3ne een wereldact kan maken. En dat verdienen ze wat mij betreft ook.

Een paar weken terug was dat nog de 16e plaats. Het viel mij op dat Rusland er ook nog in staat.

-This is a grower for me. While song is dated, the hook "cry no more" is really good and their live performance with amazing harmony will carry them to the grand final 6/10. ( I'm pretty sure my score will get higher when I hear them in Kiev )
-Although the song is pretty meh for me, their voices absolutely elevate it, to a point a likely non qualifier song turns into a borderline. I have no doubt in their vocal abilities, so I think they will rock it at Kiev.
-Arguably the best voices at Eurovision this year. The song is dated (although they have a personal connection to it), but their singing will make an impact in the competition, especially when there are a number of contestants with better songs that don't deliver live.

Dat had zeker eerder aangeslagen.
Maar ik heb het zelfde als bovenstaande commentaar.
Ouderwets lied wat live beter overkomt.
Ik geloof nog steeds dat de act van hun gaat ' nailen' ( Hahaha moest het even zeggen).
Maar toch blijft het mijns inziens zonde van dat niet echt goede lied. Nu gaan ze een suf lied 'goedmaken' met hun zang en act. En dat gaat best lukken, maar als ze voor een goed nummer waren gegaan had 1 + 1 + 1 in totaal 12 geweest. Dus als zang, act n lied goed waren.
Daarom was ik er al bang voor dat zij iets uit die genre hadden gekozen.
Dat is ook gebeurd.
Zij hadden uit die comfortzone moeten stappen, dat doen zij naar mijn idee bij 'sing' ( daar kom ik weer).
Zij moeten veel meer met dat echoeing doen gemixt met moderne muziek.
Maar het is niet zo, dus verwacht ik een denderende liveperfomance.
Misschien wel de beste die avond.
Als dat niet zo is, teleurstellen zij mij.

During that hour, the girls expressed their concern regarding people’s difficulty to figure out how to pronounce the group’s name but 3JS convinced them that no matter what, the 3 has to stay. Joan Franka was a little hard to make out because she insisted on playing her guitar while mumbling random lyrics, it sounded like it was along the lines of you and me and everybody out there know that my taste in fashion is crappy my color scheme was pretty damn awesome, while Trijntje gave the ecstatic girls the contact information of her personal stylist, whose specialty is post-sexual-assault chic. Who said there is no 3 in T3AM?
