Tevens bekend van de Stevinsluizen en het Kazemattenmuseum.
Daarnaast bevindt zich hier een van de twee zijstraten van de A7.
De sluizen worden door Rijkswaterstaat verbouwd in de komende jaren. Er komen keersluizen om het water bij extreem hoogwater op de Waddenzee te houden. Verderop komt ook een vismigratierivier: een rivier voor vissen door de Afsluitdijk.
