Al met al vind ik het een hele leuke pulpserie om lekker weg te kijken als je brak bent na een nacht doorhalen of heel brak bent. Het is gewoon heel vermakelijk, bijvoorbeeld als Vic zijn kinderen autisme hebben > Vacines cause autism en dergelijke, maar volgens mij is het helemaal niet bedoeld als comedy.

Qua dat aangaat had Z Nation er ook wel bij gekund zelfde type show alleen iets minder productie kwaliteit.

Geen ontwikkeling? Breaking Bad heb je bijvoorbeeld wel heel hoog staan, maar de ontwikkeling van WW is best vergelijkbaar met die van Vic: van bad to worse. Dat gebeurt bij The Shield continu. Vastzitten in foute patronen, zoveel waarvan je houd van je afstoten en je eigen fouten niet inzien. Daarom snap ik ook niet dat je de plot komisch noemt, want het juist een soort onvermijdbaar pad van zelfdestructie waarbij Vic zichzelf groter want dan hij is.

Het echte moment van dat besef kwam bij mij in seizoen 5. Dat vond ik het meest indrukwekkende seizoen, dus misschien komt dat bij jou ook nog.

Vic begint ongeveer op het level waar WW zijn einde is. Daarbij bouwt BB zeer langzaam op terwijl de Shield vanaf minuut 1 tot het einde volle actie is. Sowieso zijn ongeveer alle karakters bij de Shield ongeveer van het niveau van de vrouwen in Breaking bad, irritant en 2d dus.

Vind de Shield eigenijk heel goed vergelijkbaar met Homeland, alleen om de Shield kun je meestal lachen terwijl Homeland falend serieus is.

Oké, maar onrealisme vind ik altijd een moeilijk iets bij tv en film. Het gaat erom hoe realistisch het is in het geschetste universum. Neem Game of Thones; alles wat daar gebeurt is realistisch in die wereld, maar niet in de onze. Hetzelfde geldt in mindere mate ook bij The Shield; zoiets zal in het eggie niet zo snel gebeuren, maar de wereld van The Shield zit vol met mislukkingen, geweld, corruptie en nog meer negatieve zaken. In die wereld vind ik het niet onrealistisch wat er gebeurt. Natuurlijk wordt er geregeld wat aangedikt, maar dat hoort er soms bij.
