Mensen die in de grafische design wereld zitten weten dat je met een een logo nooit een volledig accurate weergave hoeft te maken als het maar esthetisch / elegant is en boven alles communiceert. Als ontwerper wil je bij zoiets de "nations" in een zo klein mogelijk vlak weergeven en dat moet twee dingen kunnen. Het moet het goed doen op een grote vlag, en het moet 'ook' op een speldje of pen te zien zijn en niet in een 'blob' wegvallen. En deze kaart doet het prima voor de functie die het dient. En zo dienen vele weergaves weer andere functies. Maar dit is verreweg wel een van de beste weergaves voor een logo. Je hebt wel amateur-logos met de huidige projecties maar die zien er dan vaak plomp uit en werken niet echt als 'oogappeltje'. De vlag van de VN is een heel mooi voorbeeld van een heel functioneel minimalistisch duotone logo. Ik vind 'm in elk geval behoren tot 1 van de mooiste ontwerpen ooit gemaakt. De lijnen lijken zo ook wat op de vergaderbankjes, bewust of niet bewust zo gemaakt, maar er zit veel in zonder dat het druk wordt.
Geen enkele afbeelding in je post "map projections galore" zou het qua compactheid winnen. De huidige grafische interpretatie is compact en laat de wereld zien. De noordpool is weggestript en de kromming is een beetje dikker aangezet om het zuiden er ook op te krijgen. Dat is een intelligent ontwerp.
Je mag proberen een beter logo te maken, maar je zult niet op iets minmalistischer uitkomen en de uitdagingen tegenkomen waar de ontwerpers van dit logo al lang geweest zijn.
Nog iets wat intelligent ontworpen is, hier gebruikt men de negatieve ruimte erg goed.
Er bestaan geen honden met huizen tussen hun benen, maar ach.. voor een logo, meer dan prima. Het blaast andere logos op dezelfde markt compleet weg.

Verder hoor ik je ook niet klagen over dat de kaart volledig in 't wit is, en we niet op een sneeuwvlakte leven. Maar dat is uiteraard gedaan omdat wit en blauw een mooi contrast oplevert en de echte kleuren het hele ontwerp zouden verklooien.
Nogmaals, je leeft niet op het huidige VN logo.
Het is schattig dat je dat gelooft en als je dat wil blijven geloven hou ik je niet tegen.

Is dit de Mercator projectie?
Als je bijvoorbeeld van Perth naar Adelaide rijdt dan is dat over de weg 2695 km.
Als je van Cairns naar Sydney rijdt dan is dat 2414 km.
Dat is nagenoeg dezelfde afstand. Als jouw kaartje klopt dan zou de eerste afstand ruim het viervoudige van de tweede moeten zijn. Kortom: dat kan niet kloppen.

What sort of complete lunacy is it that they say it goes from west to east. And Eric is right........who would know this. I have probably taken more notice of the moon than most and I didn't know this. I can't even get my head around the calculations that they would use to show this is remotely possible! Insane!

Australie is op die kaart zeker 3 x groter dan de VS.
Dat is gewoon na te meten en uit metingen blijkt dat het juist andersom moet zijn.
Kortom, die kaart klopt niet.
