Die nummer 1, nou gewoon de muziek is fantastisch. Heeft Pat Metheney en band toch maar mooi geschreven en Bowie vult het perfect aan.
Ik heb de film niet gezien (denk ik toch) of het boek gelezen (the falcon and the snowman), dus op dat gebied kan ik er niet veel over zeggen.De film zou over drugs en spionage gaan.

Maar het lied an sich is lekker gelaagd, soort van melancholische quasi 'haunting' sfeer die het oproept. Die synths, hoorn/koperblazer, drumcomputer (lijkt het toch), het gitaartje die hun best doen om die droevigheid vorm te geven, maar dan is er gelukkig nog dat basje waarop je je lekker kan laten meedrijven want die lijkt je muzikaal toch steun (en warmte) te geven in dit alles. En dan hier en daar dat (volgens mij) trompetriedeltje dat plots opduikt. Het gaat eerst omhoog om de intensiteit wat te verhogen maar gaat dan terug omlaag om als het ware te zeggen 'het ergste is voorbij'.

Bowie die hier gewoon zijn stem prachtig benut om de sfeer van het lied nog extra in de verf te zetten, zowel zijn mooie diepe stem als zijn falsetto's komen echt mooi tot hun recht. Ik weet niet of de tekst een diepere betekenis heeft, maar ik vind de tekst lekker meegaan in de sfeer. Er is ook een verwijzing naar de filmtitel in Bowie's tekst maar eigenlijk ook buiten de film blijft het een mooie beeldspraak (snowman melting from the inside, falcon spirals to the ground). Tijdloos volgens mij want ook op meer modernere gebeurtenissen toe te passen waarin ook de sfeer en tekst van het lied nog steeds blijven werken.

Ik kan echt wegdromen in dit nummer.

DIt is zo'n beetje onmogelijk. Niet te doen.
Maar vooruit: dit zijn de eerste titels die mij de afgelopen vierentwintig uur te binnen schieten en die echt op de lijst moeten. De volgorde vond ik minder lastig.
