Fears are now mounting that North Korea's threat could lead to a war between the rival nations.
A South Korean Defense Ministry spokesman has said this morning that Seoul would retaliate strongly to any North Korean action.
The 9.30am deadline for the South to cease playing 'anti-North Korea broadcasts' at the border between North and South has passed, with South Korea bracing itself for an attack.

Is dit niet een jaarlijks terugkerend festival? Ik vraag me ook af waarom de US daar keer op keer aan het provoceren is met militaire 'oefeningen'. Dat was vorig jaar (?) ook oorzaak van het debacle.

A theory put forward by Kim Myong-chol, executive director of The Centre for North Korea-US Peace and a Japan-based mouthpiece for the regime in Pyongyang, is that the confrontation on the border is a conspiracy by the US and Japan designed to keep Park Geun-hye, the South Korean president, away from the upcoming ceremonies in Beijing to mark the end of the Second World War.
And he warned that the North's military will carry out its threat at 5pm local time tomorrow if South Korea does not halt the propaganda broadcasts over the border.
"If the loudspeakers are still in place at 5pm tomorrow, then the North will attack with artillery, from the air and with land forces", he told The Telegraph.
"What happens after that depends on the reaction of South Korea and the US", he said. "The North does not want a war, but South Korea and the US want war. So we will destroy their forces in an instant".
Asked how the destruction of all the South Korean and US forces stationed south of the Demilitarised Zone might be achieved, Mr Kim said the North is ready to use its nuclear weapons.
"It depends on the situation and the reactions of South Korea and the US, but it could be a nuclear war", he said. "The choice is up to the Americans".
Toch altijd weer spannend, maar bijna lachwekkend hoe Noord-Korea maar blijft vasthouden dat ze klaar zijn om dat verschrikkelijke zuiden te verslaan. En dan vervolgens zetten ze alles weer on hold en verwachten dat mensen het volgend jaar weer zullen geloven.

Van mij mag het wel gewoon een keer losgaan na al die jaren, dan zijn we ook af van die loze dreigementen 
Dit gaat zo Gulf War part II worden. Ik gok dat de Amerikanen en Zuid Koreanen binnen 24 uur de oorlog gewonnen hebben zodra die uitbreekt. Ze zien alles wat Noord Korea doet en hebben al jaren iedere vuurlinie, ieder vliegveld en alle basissen in beeld gebracht.
Noord Korea heeft nog ouder materiaal dan Saddam had, geen enkele kans. Het enige dat link is zijn de nukes, maar die zullen of de Chinezen of de Amerikanen wel veilig stellen nog voor Noord Korea ze kan gebruiken.

Mocht het echt tot een oorlog komen verwacht ik dat het Noord Koreaanse bestuur vrij snel in elkaar stort. Dat zie je altijd met dat soort regimes. Zodra er echt geschoten gaat worden, maakt iedereen zich uit de voeten en probeert zijn eigen hachje te redden.

Die haalt Israël ook zo uit de lucht, en ik geloof niet dat Zuid-Korea militair bijzonder ver achterloopt op Israël, behalve de a-bom dan.

Ik denk dat de Noord Koreanen al verslagen worden door de cultuur shock. Overal eten, welvaart, licht, iets dat ze dat in eigen land niet hebben.
Alsof China en Rusland het wel even laat gebeuren dat Noord-Korea wordt binnen gevallen door Zuid Korea en de Verenigde Staten.

De Zuid Koreanen, VS en China kunnen prima samen door een deur. Het wordt dan gewoon een protectoraat van China o.i.d. met een 'normale' grens.quote:
