Privésponsor voor wielertalent Sjoerd van Ginneken: 'Een droom die uitkomt'

GOES - ZLM Verzekeringen heeft zich voor één jaar verbonden aan de nieuwe wielerploeg Team Roompot. Opvallend is dat de verzekeringsmaatschappij zich vooral concentreert op twee renners, Sjoerd van Ginneken uit Heerle en de Zeeuw Brian van Goethem.

Zo zal het logo en de naam van het bedrijf zal alleen op de shirts van Van Goethem en Van Ginneken te zien zijn. "Ze gaan ons vooral helpen met social media en vervoer", weet Van Ginneken. "In ruil daarvoor rijden wij met hun logo en verschijnen we op evenementen en bijeenkomsten met klanten."

Oud-profs
De pas 22-jarige Van Ginneken kijkt zijn ogen uit bij het nieuwe team. Het is voor het eerst dat hij in een profploeg rijdt en dat hij zich volledig kan concentreren op wielrennen. Bovendien leert hij het vak bij Roompot van oud-profs Erik Breukink en Michael Boogerd. "Het is fantastisch om met deze mensen te werken. Een beetje een droom die uitkomt."

De Greef hoopt alsnog op Wanty-Groupe Gobert

Francis De Greef (29) is een van de laatste Belgische profs die nog altijd geen contract tekende voor volgend jaar. De kakelverse vader van Helena hoopt dat hij alsnog bij Wanty-Groupe Gobert kan rijden dat nu al negentien renners telt met Gasparotto en Marcato als voornaamste aanwinsten en Roy Jans als dé spurter van de professioneel continentale ploeg.

Francis De Greef (29) rijdt ook komend seizoen voor Wanty – Groupe Gobert. De Klein-Brabander – vorige maand pas vader geworden van Helena – heeft zijn contract bij het Belgische procontinentale team met één seizoen verlengd.

Wanty – Groupe Gobert heeft hiermee twintig renners onder contract liggen en lijkt hiermee het huiswerk voor komend seizoen af te hebben.

Torku-Sekerspor heeft zijn veertienkoppige selectie voor komend seizoen gepresenteerd. Daarbij zitten onder meer Tomasz Marczynski en Kevin Seeldraeyers, maar één opvallende naam ontbreekt: Juan José Cobo (foto). De winnaar van de Ronde van Spanje van 2011 werd afgelopen seizoen namens Torku-Sekerspor zesde in de Ronde van Turkije, maar lijkt in 2015 niet meer voor de Turkse formatie te rijden. Het is nog onbekend waar zijn toekomst ligt.

Ted King has announced today that the current season will be his final as a professional cyclist. The 32 year old started his European campaign in 2009 and is currently in his seventh European professional season as a member of the Cannondale-Garmin Pro Cycling Team.

“I'll forever love this sport and consider myself grateful to have earned such an international career,” King said. After racing domestically for three years with Bissell, King made the leap to Europe with the Cervélo TestTeam in 2009 before joining Cannondale-Liquigas in 2011.

During his professional career Ted raced in the sport’s biggest events including the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, World Championships, and Monuments such as Paris-Roubaix and the Tour of Flanders.

King says he will forever cherish his first-time experiences such as his first time on the Roubaix Velodrome, his first Grand Tour, his first victory, and his first World Championships wearing the red, white, and blue of the United States. “I can picture each of these vividly and that's something I'll value forever.”

"And I'm grateful to spend my last pro season on an American team with Cannondale-Garmin. Across the board I’m extremely happy here — my teammates, the directors, sponsors, camaraderie, and obviously the fans are all greater than I could have expected. It may seem like an odd contrast to decide to retire now when things are at such a high point, but I’m ready to tackle a new phase. That being said, I’m more inspired to thrive in the peloton than ever before and finish the season in the greatest way possible."

While leaving the professional ranks at the end of the current season, King plans to remain actively involved in cycling with the same vigor that drew him to it.

“Though I’m stepping away from pro racing at the end of the season, I still love riding my bike and will continue to do plenty of that.” said King. “Where early season meant the Spring Classics I’ll now look for classic adventures with the bike very much at its center. Additionally, I’ll be even more involved with the Krempels King of the Road Challenge and similar social, environmental, health, and causes related to the bike.”
