Maar over al-Arabiya gesproken, ik weet niet in hoeverre dit klopt (er staat: Breaking News: luchtmacht van al-Abadi bombardeert burgers in Mosul met barrelboms).. de man is nog geen premier en wordt nu al gedemoniseerd

Nog niks over gehoord. Maar is dat niet onwaarschijnlijk? Irak heeft wel betere wapens dan 'barrelbombs'. De VS faalde vorige ook toen ze zich moesten bemoeien in Irak. Duizenden doden aan hun kant.
Man je wilt toch niet beweren dat ISIS het kan opnemen tegen de VS? Je bent gezwicht voor de stoere filmpjes van die isis boys op internet, en het uitvoeren van aanslagen kunnen ze inderdaad echt supergoed (
) en ook blijkt maar weer dat ze oorlogsmisdaden plegen. Maar op het moment dat het tot een treffen komt dan houdt ISIS echt geen stand hoor. Hooguit kunnen ze op een guerrilla achtige manier standhouden zoals de taliban en ze zullen hun kleine succesjes vieren alsof het suikerfeest is, maar daar blijft het bij.

Tasnim also quoted Shamkhani as congratulating Prime Minister-designate Abadi on his selection and extending his congratulatory message to Iraq’s Shia Marjaia and Iraqi people.
The news agency also quoted Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif as calling for timely formation of a new government under Abadi’s leadership. Zarif made the comments during a phone conversation with his Italian counterpart on Tuesday.
The Iranian media on Monday had highlighted Maliki’s defiance for not being asked to serve a third term. But today, Mehr News Agency carried the news of Abadi’s request for international support against the Islamic State, referring to him as Prime Minister-designate.
Today, U.S. officials also expressed readiness to expand military and political support for Iraq when Abadi assumes the duties of prime minister and leads an inclusive, multi-sectarian government.
The United States “is prepared to intensify its security cooperation,” said Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel. (The New York Times, 12 August)
“We are prepared to consider additional political, military and security options as Iraq starts to build a new government,” added Secretary of State John.
Kerry and Hagel were in Sydney on Tuesday for signing the force posture agreement that provides for the rotation of U.S. Marines and Air Force personnel in northeast Australia.

The situation for those still on the mountain was far worse. I saw them with my own eyes taking their last breath, this scene awakened all my pains and sorrows.”
While many families fled from their villages at night after hearing gunfire and receiving calls from neighbors saying that ISIS fighters were on their way, some fled during the day and ran into checkpoints run by the militants. The Caro family, who fled their village of Zurava on Monday, said they were trying to find a way to drive to Syria, but soon discovered that ISIS fighters had blocked the roads.
When the fighters, who were masked, approached the car, everyone fell silent, said Mr. Caro, fearing that they would be shot. “But they were polite, they didn’t shout or say bad words. They just asked us to become Muslims,” he said. “I told them, ‘We are a peaceful people, and we don’t want to change our faith.’ ”
The fighters did not respond, but told the Caro family to turn back. Afraid that they would face death if they tried to pass again and still refused to convert, they went to the mountain.

Yep, in het Ottomaanse Rijk (heel lang dus) en ook wel na de Eerste Wereldoorlog was het vrij rustig wat dat betreft. Als er strijd was was het ook echt strijd om iets, niet om het doden van onschuldigen. Het zal, zoals oksel12 zegt, te maken hebben met al die dictatoren in Egypte, Algerije, Libië, Irak, Syrië, etc die islamitische bewegingen keihard onderdrukt hebben.
