Russian Defence Forces: We Fire on Unfamiliar Sites ‘Near Finland’

(FINNBAY) – Karelia, 31 March 2014. The Russian military base near Finland border (mostly in Karelia) has started intensive military trainings since Sunday morning. In relation to firings over the territory that is nearby Finland, the Russian defence forces spokesperson says, “Firings are done on unfamiliar sites.”

Russian Western Military District (WEST) headquarters have been conducting intensive trainings nearby the Finnish border related to Russia’s 3-day nuclear war exercise involving some 10,000 soldiers to ensure Russia is prepared to conduct offensive operations in the event of an international use of nuclear weapons.

According to the spokesperson, the firings and flights are taken to “the 2nd stage” – a secret military plan – in almost all regions of the Central and North-Western District of Russia.

So far, sources say, the Russian army’s 2nd stage can be related to training soldiers on “search and rescue” missions. On 29 March 2014, the Russian military’s WEST team announced completing a large-scale training on search and rescue where more than 40 specialists were divided into two teams, and each of which had to perform immediate tasks.

“The uniqueness of these events is that the soldiers and the air force are preparing themselves for operating on new fields. This element of combat training allows flight crews to enhance their experience in these regions,” says the spokesperson.

The Russian military has scheduled training flights nearby Finland to pass in 4 shifts at different times of day. They are attended by the crews of Mi-8 helicopters of various modifications and Mi-24s.

The Finnish defence forces declined to comment on these new developments near the border; however, it is known that the Finnish army has started a ’24/7 live-monitoring’ operation to watch the developments closely.

KIEV, March 31, /ITAR-TASS/. Three people, including deputy head of the Kiev city state administration Bogdan Dubas, were wounded in a shooting incident in the Ukrainian capital’s center near the Mafia restaurant on Monday, Kiev police told Itar-Tass.

The shooting was started by an activist of the Right Sector far-right group, Ukrainian parliament-appointed Interior Minister Arsen Avakov said Monday.

“A Right Sector activist started shooting near the Mafia caf·. Three people were wounded, including two of them seriously. The wounded are two Maidan self-defense soldiers and Kiev city administration deputy head Bogdan Dubas,” Avakov said.

“The reasons for the shooting are unknown. The wounded are in a hospital,” Avakov said.

He said the shooter was blocked inside the caf· by other activists, adding that Right Sector representatives led the shooter out and accompanied him to the Dnepr hotel.

This association created in 1983 was practically inactive until revived on the occasion of the September 11 Attacks to join the abruptly changing apparatus from the Cold War to the War Against Terrorism. Casey had the idea of satisfying some of them by publishing their testimonies. That way he was killing two birds with one stone : on the one hand, the rogues would recover the public positions they had lost and on the other hand, their declarations would fuel the espionage agencys anti-communist campaign.

That was how the Jamestown Foundation was created. Its direction was entrusted to William Geimer. This man would publicly unveil two top political figures from the East, who had asked for political asylum in the United States: one of the old Romanian Seniors of the information - General Ion Pacepa, and above all the former UN undersecretary - Soviet diplomat Arkady Shevchenko, who had defected on April 1978 and fallen into a depressive state.

The latter published his memoirs, which turned out to be a best-seller [2], the TV studios and lecture halls opening their doors to him The work was full of anecdotes and details about the Kremlins functioning given by an eye witness. Regrettably, a journalistic investigation [3] showed that Shevchenko had not been present in many of his stories. Never was it checked out whether he had been a storyteller who had fooled the CIA or a deceitful campaign organized by the espionage agency.

Pacepas memoirs, however, were not challenged [4]. During this period, the Foundation had among its managers people such as Dick Cheney and Marcia Carlucci (Frank C. Carluccis wife, then no. 2 in the CIA). Although the Jamestown Foundation played its role during Reagans office, its activities were soon restrained due to the collapse of the Soviet Union, an event that bereft it of its raison dêtre. It then focused on the publication of a daily newsletter about the post soviet world.

At a joint press conference after his meeting with Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic, Zeman recalled that as the prime minister he rejected the proposal of the then Czech president to decorate the NATO commander U.S. General Wesley Clark with the Order of the White Lion, the highest decoration of the Czech Republic.

While most Americans broadly say the U.S. should honor its obligation to defend NATO allies from a hypothetical Russian threat, they are less likely to say that some individual NATO nations are worth defending, according to a new HuffPost/YouGov poll.

The survey found that 60 percent of respondents supported maintaining the commitment to defend NATO allies. Just 17 percent deemed such support to be no longer necessary, while 23 percent were not sure.

However, that principle did not necessarily translate into a desire to defend individual countries, including some NATO members. While a majority of the public supported defending Britain from a Russian attack, less than half of respondents were in favor of coming to the aid of other countries. Support for defending France and Poland was 48 percent and 40 percent, respectively. Only 20 percent to 29 percent supported defending Latvia, Turkey and Ukraine.

According to the survey, older voters were more likely than younger voters to favor military action in each country. The poll also found a disparity between Republicans and Democrats in terms of intervention. Republicans were more likely than Democrats or independents to favor military action in each country except Turkey and Ukraine.
