Die foto's zijn van de Forest Stage. Vorig jaar hadden ze die voor het eerst in het klein als experiment, en dat sloeg dusdanig aan dat de normale 2e stage is omgeruild voor een merchandise tent, en de forest stage een upgrade kreeg

Drukte was vergelijkbaar. Dacht dat ze wel 100 kaarten meer hadden dit keer, maar daar heb ik niet echt iets van gemerkt eigenlijk.

Shy, Low (USA) is not completely new to the festival with members of Au Revoir (playing last edition) but their music is. Having seen them perform a few weeks ago in a small bar in Aalst, Belgium we thought we should definitely experience these heavy post-rock tunes on our next edition. Don’t miss out on this one!

A Swarm Of The Sun (SE) has our attention from the very beginning when they released their first album Zenith in 2010. After releasing The Rifts (2015) full of dark and highly dynamic songs with eerie piano parts, mesmerizing vocals and explosive climaxes, they are now about to release their third album The Woods. This will be a set that grabs your attention from beginning to end and will leave you speechless.

Hæster (BE) just released their debut album on dunk!records and A Thousand Arms. So you could say they are new to the scene but the members already earned their stripes in bands such as Aborted, Customs, Death Before Disco, Horses On Fire… Listening to All Anchors No Sails you can tell they know how it’s done. This will be one of the heaviest shows of the festival.

Go March (BE) is being described as Mogwai meets Kraftwerk. Depending on the balance between those two this could turn out really good right? In any case this trio will bring an exciting blend of electronics, rock and ambient passages. Make sure to check out their latest album II, recorded in what is now called dunk!studios, located on the dunk!fields.

This years line-up will have space for 39 bands. That’s three more than last year! That also means we still have a whole bunch of names to announce and so we will get on with it and add another five bands coming from all over the world to spend some excellent time in Belgium. By the way, did you know two of these bands are located 16.390 km away from each other and will travel 11.852 km from Santiago de Chile and 10.584 km from Singapore to perform at dunk!festival 2019!

Bossk (UK) might not be unknown to you. These guys from Kent played Arctangent last summer and are confirmed for Roadburn Festival in April 2019. Knowing this we probably don’t have to add that it might get loud and heavy when they climb onto our stage to close The Forest on day one.

Jozef Van Wissem (NL) released his latest album We Adore You, You Have No Name last month but it was a few weeks before when watching Jim Jarmush’ Only Lovers Left Alive that we were already reminded of this talented lute playing musician. Back in 2013 he even received a Sountrack Award in Cannes for his compositions for this unusual vampire story. This promises to be a perfect match with our Forest Stage.

Paint The Sky Red (SG) will be the first band from Singapore to perform at dunk!festival and lists influences such as This Will Destroy You, Mogwai, Explosions In The Sky, Mono, EF and other greatness of the post-rock scene. This calls for a spot on the main stage! Their tunes were written to serve as a soundtrack for self-reflection and find meaning in difficult times. Make sure to grab a drink* before you go.

Malämmar (ES) has played the festival before in 2017 and clearly proved their added value to the line-up back then. It’s only three of them but they are loud, full of energy and always thirsty. They got signed to dunk!records in 2016 with their album Vendetta and just released Mil Mentiras as digital EP which will also be available on vinyl through dunk!records later on. This will definitely wake up The Forest!

Sistemas Inestables (CL) released a brand new album a few weeks ago and will bring their refreshing sound all the way to dunk!festival 2019. There are a lot of great things happening in Chile and it became a tradition for our friends at LeRockPsicophonique to send over the best of Chilean post-rock. They gave us hidden treasures before such as Baikonur, Tortuganonima, La Ciencia Simple,… and we are excited to experience the electronic jazzy post-rock of Sistemas Inestables on our main stage.

Silent Whale Becomes a Dream maakt hun debuut op Dunk dit jaar. Russian Circles heeft vorig jaar (en 2016) gespeeld, dus ik gok dat ze er dit jaar niet bij zijn.

Ik verwacht Long Distance Calling nog als headliner eigenlijk. Die zijn aan het touren en hebben vorig jaar ook een nieuw album uitgebracht.

Verder verwacht ik nog een paar Belgische bands als All We Expected, Sons of a Wanted Man, Slow Crush of Endless Dive. Wellicht spelen The End of the Ocean weer (nieuw album), Autism, Somn, Wiegedood, Fire Walk With Us (2e keer, nieuw album vorig jaar) en nog een paar drone artiesten als A-Sun Amissa, Nadja, Thisquietarmy (met band deze keer), Ashtoreth of Stratosphere, en wellicht weer Yodok III.

Mono heeft ook nieuw album, maar die touren dan in de US samen met Emma Ruth Rundle...

In this announcement we have some very interesting music of which most of it is leaning more towards the experimental side of the post-rock scene. Jean D.L. & Karen Willems should ring a bell if you’re not new to the festival. Karen Willems performed for the dunk!audience a few times before and we thought this 15th edition definitely needed this experimental touch. Their new album was recorded in a church where they played with the sound of the space making the album sound mystical. Sounds like the perfect forest show!

Osorezan from Chile is part of the LeRockPsicophonique family who offers the best post-rock from Chile. Dunk!festival will be their first European incursion and they want to make it memorable not just for themselves, but also for all of the attendees that day. They have prepared some darkness that doesn’t suit the faint of heart. Mind your head and ears, these guys will probably crush them if you walk in unaware.

FVNERALS from Belgium will move us even deeper into darkness and the beautiful, haunting vocals of Tiffany Strom will make you want to stay there. After moving from Scotland to Germany to Belgium and taking some time off to write new music they are now back on the road and our forest stage will be a perfect stop to let their doomy, shoegazing post-rock out. Make sure to check their (for now latest) album Wounds.

Jardín de la Croix from Spain has been on our list for quite some time. Not only because they are represented by the excellent Aloud Music label but also because they blew us away at ArcTanGent a little while ago with their heavy progressive post-math-rock. Amazing live band, full of energy which we really need to see on our main stage with a tiny bit of overkill in the tech department.

Tangled Thoughts of Leaving (Australia) is coming back to dunk!festival, following previous visits in 2013 and 2015. They released their third full length album, No Tether, in 2018 in collaboration with Bird's Robe Records and dunk!records. No Tether is an intriguing mix of post-metal, doom-jazz and prog - and this tour will be the very first time it is played for audiences outside Australia. Don't miss this intriguing, beguiling and heavy-hitting show!

Zhaoze from China is definitely a name you should remember. They performed at last years edition on the main stage and stayed here afterwards to record their album in dunk!studios. After a few days of trying things out in the studio they decided to move the studio equipment to the forest for more inspiration. So it makes a lot of sense to have them present their new album to you at the exact same location it was recorded.

Baulta from Finland will bring their post-rock / post-metal tunes to the festival for the first time. They started out in 2008-2009 and in the meantime they were already nominated multiple times for album of the year by specialized media. A short listening session (or better: a long listening session) to their recorded work will tell you that this is going to be a wonderful experience delivering nice post-rock build ups exploding into post-metal climaxes. Can’t go wrong!

Coastlands from Oregon, USA was there at dunk!USA in Vermont in 2017 and, as expected, they made an impression! After releasing To Be Found on dunk!records early 2017 they also released The Further Still on double colored vinyl through dunk!records in November 2018 which already sold out. Their loud and intense ‘instrumental sad-rock’ will definitely translate well onto our main stage.

This Patch of Sky is also from Oregon, also played dunk!USA 2017 and will also be there at dunk!festival 2019. So far the similarities to the previous band. Their latest album These Small Spaces on dunk!records was released on dunk!records (EU) in September 2017 (wait, that’s another thing they have in common). After dunk!USA we kept listening to this album with its enchanting cello parts and we couldn’t be happier to finally have them on the line-up for dunk!festival. We know for sure this is going to be one of those moments of this years edition.

WANHEDA from Belgium will open the forest stage on day 2. “This is a classic Dunk! band who have a bunch of excellent tunes as business cards." — Merchants of Air. We didn’t realize we were already a genre tag but nevertheless we trust this quote and booked these guys for our 15th edition. Oh, and their tunes are definitely worth checking out. Preferably live, at the end of May in the area of East Flanders, if possible in a forest.

Am Fost La Munte Și Mi-a Plăcut is a relatively new post-rock band from Bucharest, Romania and can be translated to ‘I Went To The Mountains And I Liked It’. Mountains? That means post-rock! In this case with ‘emotional instrumental passages, heavy breakdowns and a funny online presence’. It’s mostly that last feature that made the difference. We know they’re not talking about song lyrics so we are in the dark as much as you guys.

Le Temps Du Loup from Madrid, Spain released their latest album Cardinal on dunk!records and was one of the first pressings of dunk!pressing. Sold out for now but we might have a repress available by the time they hit the dunk!stage. ‘From vitriolic power riffing to contemplative melodic explorations, from deliberate, forceful, low end-driven builds to dizzying climactic heights’ is what you will witness on June 1st on our mainstage.

Black Narcissus from Belgium is ‘a 2-piece rhythm section providing intense and atmospheric tunes of monumental proportion’. Monumental music with only the rhythm section? That sounds interesting! They will open up the Forest Stage on day 1 with their black-metal (with a touch of post-rock of course) and you better be there.

Wang Wen is one of China’s leading post-rock bands and already proved why at dunk!festival 2015. They just released their new single ‘Endless’, written for a reality show about space travel and emigration to Mars. We’re looking forward to be in the audience and let us be carried away by their music...

And then we have Kokomo from Duisburg, Germany. If you don’t know them yet you’re probably also new to this festival because this excellent instrumental and most of all loud post-rock band is connected to the history of this festival for a long time already. Of course they are also signed to dunk!records (did you know their first album If Wolves was the very first release of dunk!records) and we are beyond excited to let you know that they will bring a new album with them on their 5th appearance at dunk!festival (last time was in 2016, first time in 2010).

Her Name Is Calla (UK) performed the festival a few times before (2011, 2016) but unfortunately this seems to be their last time. Sadly, because they're calling it a day as a band. And to make it even more memorable they will release a brand new double album (on dunk!records!) on the day of their show (June 1st). We heard bits and pieces and we promise it will be a grande finale for the Forest Stage and for this band that has been in the front lines of the post-rock scene for the past decade.

Summit (BE) is working on their debut album to be released in 2019 and with influences such as Russian Circles, Isis, Tool, Year Of No Light we might be in for treat. Their post-rock / post-metal is scheduled to open the Forest Stage on the third day of the festival.

Wrekmeister Harmonies (US) is a perfect headliner for the Forst (Friday May 31st). The music is described as pastoral doom and the biography mentions 'Few artists have perfected the nuances of beauty as well as annihilation, and Robinson's mastery of both sides of the spectrum makes his an unique voice in the field of doom. ' We couldn't have said it better. This is going to be an immersive set in our dark forest.

Labirinto (BR) are long time friends of the festival (2013, 2015) and we're excited to have them back. Over the years their music got a heavier and heavier so their performances were never the same and won't be this time. They just released their latest album Divino Afflante Spiritu on Pelagic Records. This is perfect study material to prepare for their Main Stage set.


Statue (BE) received a lot of wonderful reviews for their latest album Kasper which they released at Paradiso in Amsterdam. They bring instrumental experimental noise (think Battles) with 4 guitar players and deliver songs with a keen eye for detail without losing the focus to keep those feet dancing. Maybe we will see some dancing in the audience!

MANTIS (BE) recently added a new band member, wrote some new stuff and reworked some old songs so we're looking forward to see this upgraded version of an already interesting band! 'Live, MANTIS bring their self-proclaimed 'pogojazz' to the people, which always results in an explosion of overdriven guitars, singalong riffs and a lot of intense faces.'

Celestial Wolves (BE) is known to the festival. As a band (2013, 2015) and as part of the organization of this festival. They released their latest album Call Of The Void (on dunk!records) in Fall last year and would be happy to bring their new instrumental, melodic, dynamic and powerful sound to the dunk!audience. Always performed with intensity as if it is their last show. They will hit the Forest Stage on Saturday June 1st.


PILLARS (US) is an instrumental post-rock band from Indianapolis and released one full album so far. And with just that we feel there's a lot to discover in this band. They take listeners on a aural voyage full of thoughtfully crafted peaks and plunges. We are sure we will hear more from these guys very soon!

Staghorn (US) was on our shortlist for a while and after meeting them in person and experiencing their show on their last EU tour we knew we had to book them for our next edition. This is post-rock with a strong story. Staghorn is as much an intellectual, cultural and philosophical statement as it as an artistic expression. [...] Staghorn's recordings offer a narrated sonic journey through our self-induced downfall, the animal kingdom's terrifying yet triumphant return to power, and more.
