Will Once Upon a Time Be Renewed for Season 3?

Once Upon a Time Season 2 has been struggling in the ratings lately, hitting series low after series low. Is the problem poor plotting, too many new characters, crazy scheduling, or something else entirely? Whatever the cause, many fans are worried that the constant bad ratings news bodes ill for the show even being renewed for Season 3.

However, we're pretty sure OUAT is going to be okay. While it hasn't officially been renewed yet, all signs point to Season 3 being a go.

While Season 2, Episode 20: "The Evil Queen" hit a series low, it was still in second place for the timeslot amongst the networks, and was ABC's highest performer of the night. Plus, the ratings were up for Season 2, Episode 21: "Second Star to the Right." Once may be struggling relative to its past success, but it's still doing better than many of ABC's other shows.

The ratings analysts at TV by the Numbers agree, calling OUAT's renewal a sure thing. Given that the OUAT Powers That Be are currently developing a spin-off that, if picked up, would run during OUAT's winter hiatus, it certainly sounds like the bigwigs at ABC have every intention of keeping the show around next year. Showrunner Adam Horowitz has assured fans that ABC hasn't officially renewed any of its dramas so far; it's normal for them to wait until mid-May to announce renewals.

Of course, this doesn't mean fans — or the writers! — should relax. While it would be utterly shocking for the show not to get a Season 3, if the ratings downward spiral continues, Season 4 could be called into question. We wouldn't want that!

Chicago Fire has only been on the air for one season.

And it isn’t even a hit, exactly.

But NBC is moving forward with the spinoff anyway!

The network has just picked up Chicago P.D., a companion series to the soapy firefighter drama that proved to be a surprisingly sturdy 10 p.m. performer this season for the network. Fire has averaged 7.8 million viewers and a 2.3 adults 18-49 rating including seven days of DVR on Wednesday nights this season. And clearly executive producer Dick Wolf (the Law & Order franchise) knows a thing or two about how to build one show into a franchise.

Here’s the official description of the new show:

District 21 of the Chicago Police Department is made up of two distinctly different groups. There are the uniformed cops who patrol the beat and go head to head with the city’s street crimes. And there’s the Intelligence Unit, the team that combats the city’s major offenses – organized crime, drug trafficking, high profile murders and beyond.
