Exclusive: Rory MacDonald Promises to Embarrass Carlos Condit at UFC 158
At just 23-years-old, British Columbia native, Rory MacDonald has an extremely bright future in front of him. He is already considered to be one of the top fighters in all of mixed martial arts and is already a contender for the UFC welterweight championship currently held by his good friend and teammate at Tri-Star, Georges St. Pierre. Whether those two ever fight one another is a different question for a different day, but it’s safe to say that MacDonald will be contending for a UFC title in the very near future.
With an impressive record of 14-1 that includes dominating victories over Nate Diaz, Mike Pyle, Che Mills and former two-division UFC champion BJ Penn, MacDonald has very little to look back on, but that one lone blemish which he suffered at UFC 115 against former UFC Interim Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit back in June of 2010. After dominating Condit for the first two rounds, MacDonald was well on his way to a decision victory before Condit turned up the heat and stopped Rory with just seven seconds left in the third round.
That loss has stuck in the craw of MacDonald ever since and he made his intentions to see revenge very clear not too long ago. After defeating Penn, MacDonald called out Condit during his post-fight interview and told the crowd in Seattle exactly what he wanted to do to The Natural Born Killer and how he wants him to feel. MacDonald was quick to point out that he is not the same fighter that Condit defeated in Vancouver two years ago.
“I think I’ve improved everywhere, I mean I’ve trained a lot of everything, but I think if I have to pick one thing that’s improved the most it’s probably my wrestling,” MacDonald told BJPenn.Com Radio. “My overall MMA game has changed so much and I’ve added so many different techniques that from where I was when I fought him the first time. I’m just a whole other fighter; I don’t fight anything like I did when we first fought. I just want to do what he did to me; I want to make him feel the embarrassment I felt in front of his family the same way I felt. I want to hurt him the way he hurt me and I don’t want him ever to forget the time that we’re going to be in there for those 15 minutes. I want him to think about that for the rest of his life.”
MacDonald is a very dangerous opponent for anyone in the UFC welterweight division and if you add on the revenge factor, it could very well be a long night for Condit when they meet in March at UFC 158 in Montreal. Some fighters tend to let their emotions get the better of them and it can cause them to make mistakes, but I wouldn’t count on it in MacDonald’s case. Condit is as tough as they come as evidenced in his title unification bout against George St. Pierre at UFC 154. This rematch has fight of the night written all over it.
