It appears that The Killing has been un-canceled. Showrunner Veena Sud and executive producers Dawn Prestwich and Nicole Yorkin are actively working on a third season and are back in the writers' room, according to Variety. AMC initially canned the show back in July, but then Netflix and DirecTV started sniffing around. As of now, there's nothing official in place with another entity, but it looks like that Netflix deal is nigh.

Well it’s not like the show wasn’t already cancelled. But to put another nail in the 666 Park Ave. coffin, ABC is pulling the remaining episodes from its schedule.
Starting Jan. 6, comedies Happy Endings and Don’t Trust The B—- in Apt. 23 will run Sunday nights in the former 666 slot. Endings will air at 10 p.m.; Apt. 23 at 10:30 p.m. The duo will still air on Tuesdays, as well, at least until the Dancing With the Stars results show takes over.
An ABC spokesperson says the network still plans to continue running the remaining episodes of Thursday’s similarly axed Last Resort, if that’s any consolation. The remaining episodes of 666 will likely air sometime this summer.

“As of the writing of this letter, we still do not know if there will be a season six of our show.,” Devlin said on the website. “ Just as we didn’t know when we created the last three episodes which are about to air. Because of this uncertainty, John Rogers and I decided to end this season with the episode we had planned to make to end the series, way back when we shot the pilot. So, the episode that will air on Christmas is, in fact, the series finale we had always envisioned.”

The low-rated Tuesday night series is being removed from the network’s primetime schedule. There’s eight episodes left in the can (13 were ordered and shot this season; plus six were leftover from last season). The network hasn’t decided when/if they’re going to see daylight. The network will air two episodes of the similarly struggling Happy Endings instead.
Now, it should be noted here that an ABC rep says the comedy is not cancelled. But as Apt. 23 co-star James Van Der Beek points out on Twitter, when a struggling show gets unexpectedly yanked from the schedule and its remaining episodes don’t have a return date … “Translation: We’ve basically been cancelled.” And when has The Beek ever lied to you? While ABC has been in c-word denial lately. Pan-Am, Last Resort, 666 … all were cancelled. Yet none were “cancelled.”
Bottom line: Apt. 23 could end up back on the air filling a time slot at some point, perhaps in the summer. The network will probably want to put those remaining episodes to use. But will it ever go back into production on additional episodes? Hmm, don’t trust the net that’s ABC…

Ik zie inderdaad dat de seizoenen al aardig korter worden dan voorgaande jaren, maar wat betreft de ratings blijven ze toch al tijden rond de 1.6 hangen op de vrijdag. Ik vermoed dan ook dat oplopende kosten de reden is van de kortere seizoenen.quote:

Als CBS met CSI:NY wilt stoppen dan zou ik dat niet als een verrassing zien, maar verder heb ik geen signalen opgepikt dat dat ook echt gaat gebeuren, wat dan ook gelijk de reden is dat ze niet in de top 10 staan.
Of ik moet iets over het hoofd hebben gezien, maar sowieso heeft de CSI-franchise al laten zien dat ze moeilijk uit te roeien zijn.
The Good Wife (1.5-1.9 ratings) scoort momenteel minder op een avond waar CBS normaal gesproken hogere eisen aan zou (mogen) stellen. Ik begrijp dan ook niet waarom CBS The Good Wife om 21.00 uitzendt en The Mentalist om 22.00. Het publiek van deze 2 series sluit niet op elkaar aan en ik denk dat The Mentalist meer heeft te verliezen met The Good Wife als lead-in dan andersom, ondanks de iets hogere kijkcijfers.
Het is te hopen op een syndication deal, maar ik zie het niet zo snel gebeuren.

Scripts met nog altijd goede humor en mooie momenten tussen de karakters die uitgevoerd worden door een cast die een goede chemie hebben samen en ondertussen helemaal op elkaar ingespeeld zijn. Die combinatie zorgt er voor dat ook de afleveringen die qua zaak wat minder interessant of vernieuwend zijn leuk blijven om naar te kijken.quote:

Ook weten ze na 9,5 seizoen nog steeds met afleveringen te komen die echt spannend zijn en plot twists bevatten die je totaal niet verwacht.
Wat ook wel helpt is dat de afleveringen bijna allemaal op zichzelf staan met maar een dunne rode draad er door. Daardoor is het ideaal voor mensen die niet de tijd hebben om elke week trouw de serie te blijven volgen.

Ik las dat de schrijvers het seizoen gewoon zo wouden afsluiten, dat had niets te maken met een cancellation. Iedereen is er vrijwel zeker van dat het terugkomtquote:

Kijkcijfers zijn verre van goed hoor. Ik hoop ook dat het nog minstens een seizoen blijft ( en met mazzel dat ze vooraf weten dat het het laatste seizoen is ), maar ik ben ook een realist en zie dat het een van de slecht presterende series is op CBS. Het is inderdaad Made in Jersey, Vegas, en eentje van Mentalist/CSI NY en TGW zoals ik al eerder zei .Als Golden Boy slaagt komt er een 4e bij die weg moet.

ABC's Zero Hour is al gelijk een mislukking (1.4 rating) en gezien het bijna onmogelijk tijdslot waarop Zero Hour wordt uitgezonden is dit niet echt een verrassing.
Happy Endings gaat binnenkort naar de vrijdag en zal denk ik daar rustig aan verder doodbloeden tot het einde van het seizoen.
Community's ratings zijn inmiddels ingestort naar een 1.2 rating en komt zo snel in gevaar, maar aan de andere kant zijn er zoveel NBC series die het slecht doen (1.0-1.3 ratings) dat ik zo me twijfels heb of NBC het zich wel kan permitteren om met zoveel series te stoppen.
Community komt daarnaast ook al aardig in de buurt van het aantal benodigde afleveringen voor syndication, want ze hebben er al 73 afleveringen van de 88 opzitten.

Als laatste verwacht ik dat Revolution na zo'n lange break tot eind maart in een FlashForward-achtige situatie komt. Ik zie het ze ook niet lang uithouden, mocht er een tweede seizoen van komen.

Happy Endings gaat binnenkort naar de vrijdag en zal denk ik daar rustig aan verder doodbloeden tot het einde van het seizoen.
Community's ratings zijn inmiddels ingestort naar een 1.2 rating en komt zo snel in gevaar, maar aan de andere kant zijn er zoveel NBC series die het slecht doen (1.0-1.3 ratings) dat ik zo me twijfels heb of NBC het zich wel kan permitteren om met zoveel series te stoppen.
Community komt daarnaast ook al aardig in de buurt van het aantal benodigde afleveringen voor syndication, want ze hebben er al 73 afleveringen van de 88 opzitten.

Het is nog even wachten op de nieuwe cijfers van Cult (0.3), Zero Hour(1.4) en Body of Proof(1.2), maar ik verwacht dat er van een aantal de komende aflevering wel duidelijk wordt of ze het gaan overleven of niet. Vegas heeft een veel betere time-slot dan TGW en haalt eigenlijk elke week dezelfde nummers als TGW, met uitzondering van afgelopen week ( en dan heeft TGW nog het excuus dat er ( zo lees ik ) nauwelijks reclame was gemaakt nadat het verschillende weken van de buis is geweest ), dus in mijn ogen heeft Vegas een hogere kans van annulering dan TGW. Ik denk dat er veel af gaat hangen van Golden Boy ( zo heet die serie toch die nog komt op CBS ? ). Als die slaagt is TGW definitief gecancelled ; anders heeft het nog een kans. Vegas ik sowieso weg. Ook niet in de buurt van syndication namelijk.

Van die series kijk ik alleen Happy Endings (soms) en 90210. Beide zijn denk ik ook wel op qua verhaallijnen.

De cijfers komen inderdaad van tvbythenumbers en de conclusies die zij trekken komen uit een formule met o.a. de gemiddelde ratings over het gehele seizoen. Ik daarentegen weeg de latere afleveringen zwaarder af tegen de eerdere afleveringen.
Een serie als bijv. Go On wordt door hun berekening waarschijnlijk vernieuwd, ondanks het feit dat de laatste aflevering een 1.1 rating scoorde. In het begin van dit seizoen lagen de ratings nog boven de 3.0 en zijn geleidelijk gedaald. Een verschil van zo'n 65% als je het bekijkt vanaf het begin en dat is dan toch wel een teken dat een serie aardig aan het doodbloeden is. Je kan dan ook vraagtekens zetten bij een mogelijke vernieuwing. In het geval van NBC en hun desastreuze seizoen zijn ze misschien wel genoodzaakt om verder te gaan met Go On, maar niet vanwege de rooskleurige ratings.
Veel andere series teren ook nog op hun eerdere hogere ratings en het duurt dan ook altijd een geruime tijd voordat dit is rechtgetrokken. Dit verschil is dan ook uiteindelijk terug te zien in hun en mijn overzicht.

Allemaal leuk en aardig als er in de social media veel gesproken wordt over een bepaalde serie, maar als je op basis van de live cijfers niet aan kan tonen dat er veel naar een serie wordt gekeken dan vraag ik me af of er echt iets zal veranderen.
On-demand erbij rekenen kan vaak oplopen tot minstens 50% in de ratings, maar een overgroot deel zullen de reclames gewoon overslaan en televisiezenders zullen bedrijven daarmee niet mee overhalen om meer te betalen voor hun reclames. De enige manier dat ik het zie werken is als ze de commercials op een slimme in de series kunnen verwerken.
