In a surprising move, Starz is pulling the plug on Spartacus after the upcoming third season.
The final chapter, to be titled Spartacus: War of the Damned, will air in January 2013.

“Starz always does the unexpected,” Sparty’s creator, Steven S. DeKnight, told IGN. “This show has been challenged, to say the least, in many, many ways. We’ve faced many difficulties and tragedies on the show. My original plan was to attack the show in a five- to seven-season arc. Once we got into it and after Andy’s passing and looking at the historical story of Spartacus, we came to the decision to basically end on a high note.

We certainly could have continued for a few more seasons and stretched it out, but we really wanted to end high and not feel like we were treading water – and really just condense the rest of the history into one amazing ten-episode, badass final season. You know, the whole show was a huge risk from the start for Starz, and it was another huge risk when I decided to try to keep the show going after Andy’s passing.

Any normal studio would have just cancelled the show at that point and not risk the financial downside of it not working. But Starz, thankfully, really stuck by the show, and they really wanted it to be told all the way to the end. They didn’t want to cheat the viewers and just suddenly pull the plug. So they gave us this opportunity to wrap up the story, and we’re certainly taking that opportunity and running with it. This is by far the biggest season we’ve ever attempted.

Er wordt voor het begin van de productie besloten dat het volgende seizoen het laatste zal worden en dus zullen de schrijvers het verhaal een passend einde kunnen geven.
Daarnaast is Spartacus een hele goede serie, die nog steeds een hoog niveau heeft. Omdat dit dé hit is van Starz, zullen ze hun paradepaardje niet te lang door willen laten gaan.

Noem één goede reden waarom je er nu niet aan zou beginnen, nu je dit nieuws weet.

De terugkeer van de klassieke tv-serie Dallas is zo'n groot succes in de Verenigde Staten, dat de zender TNT nu reeds een tweede seizoen heeft besteld. Dat is vanavond bekendgemaakt.

Het vervolg van de serie die tussen 1978 en 1991 door miljoenen wereldwijd werd gevolgd, keerde begin deze maand na 21 jaar terug op tv. In Nederland zullen de nieuwe afleveringen komen najaar bij Net 5 te zien zijn. Volgens TNT doet Dallas 2.0 het op alle gebieden goed: 'De kijkcijfers, perfect scenario, prachtige regie en een goede klik tussen de nieuwe acteurs en de iconen uit de eerste reeksen', meldt de zender.

Ouder
Behalve de 80-jarige J.R. Ewing, gespeeld door Larry Hagman, zijn ook weer zijn ex-vrouw Sue Ellen, gespeeld door Linda Gray, en zijn broer Bobby, gespeeld door Patrick Duffy, van de partij. Gray is 71 en Duffy 63. Allemaal zijn ze ouder geworden, maar het verhaal van de Ewings is in de kern hetzelfde gebleven. Het is een epos, waarin de strijd tussen goed en kwaad zich afspeelt binnen één Texaanse familie. De strijd tussen J.R. en Bobby is in de nieuwe reeks vooral de strijd tussen hun zonen. Het thema is helemaal van de 21ste eeuw: het gaat niet zozeer over olie alleen, maar ook over duurzame energie.

Met gemiddeld zeven miljoen kijkers per aflevering is Dallas één van de best bekeken kabelseries in de VS.

The announcement that Falling Skies has been renewed for a third season should come out within the next day or two according to Variety's Stuart Levine. As noted over (and over) again the show's renewal has never been in doubt since it's TNT's top scripted drama with adults 18-49. Despite my hopes that TNT would stretch out the renewal as long as possible (there is surprising traffic both from fans as well as haters predicting the show will be canceled because they don't like it) my guess is the announcement will come on Tuesday (7/10). Last summer the season two renewal announcement came on Monday, July 7, 2011.

No info on the episode order in the Variety piece, but I'd look for another 10 episode season.

The Killing has been one of AMC’s few missteps in an otherwise remarkable plunge into scripted television during the last several years. The show premiered last year to 2.7 million viewers and plenty of fan and critic excitement. But in a move that will likely be used as a real-time lesson in serialized series management for years to come, AMC and Sud managed to infuriating fans by declining to solve a mystery that viewers felt they had been led to believe would be cleared up by the end of the first season.

When season two debuted in April, ratings dropped 33 percent to 1.8 million viewers. The audience continued to ebb until the finale, which garnered 1.4 million viewers and finally revealed who killed teen murder victim Rosie Larsen. With the ratings showing a clear downward trajectory, and having established across two seasons that the Larsen murder is the driving force of the show, cancellation seemed very likely. The lesson? Don’t take viewers for granted.

Weet niet precies hoe het werkt, maar wellicht dat de onderhandelingen wat langer duren, en het al rond is op moment van cancellation? Ik las een half jaar geleden iets dat net5 Revenge wou gaan uitzenden...dat hadden ze dus gewoon moeten doen! Die serie past perfect op die zender. En ipv dat ze andere langlopende series fatsoenlijk uitzenden, doen ze dat ook niet. Dan stoppen ze opeens plots, of ze proppen het op een ongunstig tijdstip, of ze zenden alleen nog maar herhalingen uit. One Tree Hill is nooit verder gekomen dan eind seizoen 6 ; terwijl seizoen 2 en 3 wel talloze malen herhaald zijn bv. Maar nu ga ik ratelen over net5, beetje offtopic

En misschien juist door het internet zenden ze korte series uit. Dat publiek kunnen ze nog vasthouden voor een bepaalde tijd. Met langer lopende series wordt dat moeilijker en gaan mensen algauw dingen downloaden omdat ze alles snel achter elkaar willen zien.

As part of its original deal, if Anger Management met a designated average ratings threshold over the airing of eight of the first ten episodes of the series, then it would trigger an automatic, additional 90-episode order from the network. Anger Management is the highest-rated new comedy series on cable in 2012, averaging 4.53 million Total Viewers and 2.5 million Adults 18-49.



“We set a very high ratings bar that included some additional hurdles for Anger Management to earn its back-90 order and the series met and exceed those metrics,” said Saftler. “Bruce Helford has created a sitcom that works extremely well in our pre-10 p.m. programming lineup. Charlie Sheen and the entire cast did an amazing job in the first ten episodes, which were produced in a very tight window. I have no doubt that the producers and cast will be able to pull off the Herculean task of producing 90 episodes over the next two years.”

Weet niet of dit het juiste topic is om mijn vraag te stellen, maar misschien zitten hier mensen die het antwoord wel weten Is er een speciale reden waarom Nederlandse zenders alsnog series gaan uitzenden die maar één seizoen hebben? Bij net 5 heb je Pan Am, Good Christian Bitches en dit najaar dus ook Ringer. Op een andere zender zenden ze nu ook Terra Nova uit. Is dit goedkoper ofzo? Lijkt me erg frustrerend voor het Nederlandse publiek.

Nederlandse zenders kopen bijna altijd pakketten met series. Dat betekent meestal dat ze naast grote series die al een aantal seizoenen hebben ook series 'moeten' kopen die het minder lang zullen overleven. En als je het dan toch moet kopen, is het zonde om het op de planken te laten liggen toch?

Renewal Scoop: USA Orders More White Collar, Covert Affairs and Royal Pains

On the off-chance you’re already planning next summer’s vacation, make sure to leave some room for Neal, Annie and Hank. USA Network’s popular summer dramas White Collar, Covert Affairs and Royal Pains will return next year, the cabler announced Tuesday.

White Collar and Covert Affairs each merited another 16-episode cycle, bringing them to Seasons 5 and 4, respectively. Royal Pains received a regal order indeed: two more seasons – 26 episodes total – of the Hamptons-based medical drama, which will carry it through Season 6.

Meanwhile, several other of the network’s dramas — including Common Law, Necessary Roughness, Political Animals and Fairly Legal – are still on the bubble as they wait to hear whether they’ll shoot another season.

Covert Affairs’ third season continues Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 10/9c and wraps in November. White Collar‘s Season 4 continues in January. Royal Pains’ two-hour winter movie, “Off-Season Greetings,” is scheduled to air Sunday, Dec. 16 at 9/8c.

Ik denk niet ABC's Last Resort het dit seizoen gaat redden. Het slot op donderdag om 8 uur is misschien dan ook wel één van de zwaarste uren die je kan krijgen en als je begint met een 2.2 rating dan zal dat ik niet genoeg zijn voor zo'n dure actie/drama serie op het langere termijn. Zonde.

FOX gaat het denk ik over de gehele linie zwaar krijgen, op geen enkele dag weten ze eruit te springen met gescripte series en de vrijdag zal zoals gewoonlijk geen uitzondering zijn. Ze gaan dan ook meer de kant op van NBC die eigenlijk ook met alles maar matig scoort, op uitzondering van Revolution momenteel. Het is nu koffiedik kijken welke ratings ze acceptabel vinden.
