quote:Is it worth it to sell out, and blow up who you are? It's an interesting question. Yes, Tebow went 7-4 as a starter in the regular season. Yes, he won a playoff game. But Denver scored 15, 10, 38, 17, 17, 16, 35, 13, 23, 14 and 3 points in his 11 regular-season starts. And when they ran into Tom Brady's Patriots in the postseason, there was simply no keeping up.
What it adds up to is more questions, on whether or not what Denver did is actually sustainable. A quarterback's ability to consistently stay healthy while taking the pounding of playing option football, even at Tebow's size, is part of it. The rest of the league's ability to catch up to it is another.
"It creates game-plan issues for defensive coordinators," said the AFC exec. "Can you mesh it with things you might want to do from a prototypical sense? It's hard to project that, and that creates a dilemma. I can't answer it. You can determine the value today, and have some success, but is it sustainable? I don't think anyone can answer that. But in my gut, I'd be concerned with his lack of ability to be a pocket passer."
The AFC exec raised the possibility of using Tebow as a "package" quarterback or a "joker" type of weapon in an offense.
But the NFC exec warns that, "He's not fast enough to be an H-back/receiver-type guy. And as a fullback, he'd blow himself up. He's not a running back. He's not talented enough. As a quarterback, he's OK as a runner. But as a running back? No."
That led me to ask if that meant Tebow's simply an option quarterback, which elicited this reponse: "Correct. Yes."
quote:ESPNs Adam Schefter has reported the Denver Broncos have already received calls from teams about quarterback Tim Tebow.
Schefter said it is a sign the Broncos should be able to move him while ESPNs Chris Mortensen reported that Tebow will likely be released if the Broncos cant find a trade partner.
Jacksonville, Miami and New England are among the teams interested in Tebow. He will likely be brought in as a backup anywhere he goes. Denver could get a mid-round pick in return, but dont think the Broncos will sweat the compensation much. I think they just want to move on.
The Dolphins have an extra-round round pick it acquired from Chicago for Brandon Marshall, so it could give Denver a solid offer. Ironically, the Broncos drafted Tebow with their No. 25 pick after they traded Marshall to Miami two years ago. Tebow succeeded Marshall as No. 15 in Denver.
Schefter made a point that I agree with. He said several owners in the league may be interested in acquiring Tebow because of ticket sales and the popularity it could create. Tebow sells and the Broncos are hoping they find a buyer as they hand their offense to Peyton Manning.

Commissioner Roger Goodell brought the hammer down, as expected. Perhaps just as debilitating, the Saints will lose second-round picks in each of the next two years. GM Mickey Loomis has been suspended eight games and fined $500,000 while the franchise has been fined an additional $500,000. Assistant coach Joe Vitt is suspended six games.

Die kunnen ze niet hard genoeg straffen. Dit is misschien ook de reden dat Brees niet bij wil tekenen, die zal wel naar een andere Dome willenquote:
quote:When interviewed in 2012, Sean Payton claimed to be entirely unaware of the program, a claim contradicted by others. Further, prior to the Saints’ opening game in 2011, Coach Payton received an email from a close associate that stated in part, “PS Greg Williams put me down for $5000 on Rogers (sic).” When shown the email during the course of the investigation, Coach Payton stated that it referred to a “bounty” on Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

quote:the Green Bay Packers signed Jeff Saturday to a two-year deal worth $7.75 million. He is scheduled to make $4 million this season.
[...]
Green Bay Packers C Jeff Saturday said he did not sign with the Denver Broncos because he did not think the Broncos wanted him as much as QB Peyton Manning wanted him. "I told him I don't think the Broncos wanted me as much as he did. They've got things going on that they're happy with and are moving forward with and I didn't think it was an exact fit. I always felt like in Green Bay I was their very first choice," Saturday said.
quote:NFL: Concussions down on kickoffs
Moving kickoffs up 5 yards last season did exactly what the NFL sought, reducing concussions.
"The kickoff rule had an effect on the game," said Rich McKay, chairman of the league's competition committee. "There was a 40-percent reduction in concussions on that play."
The league repeatedly has said the change to kicking off from the 35-yard line was done solely for player safety. McKay said Monday at the owners meetings it served that purpose.
But he admitted surprise that total kickoff returns dropped 53 percent.
