Alistair Overeem's recent lawsuit geared at his former management team is a "preemptive action" after Knock Out Investments (KOI) and Golden Glory representatives informed the fighter of "numerous violations" of his management agreement.

That's the claim according to legal representatives for KOI and Golden Glory, who today released a statement to MMAjunkie about the situation.

Overeem filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday.

Overeem, a former Strikeforce champ who recently signed with the UFC and fights Brock Lesnar next month at UFC 141, alleges Golden Glory misled him to sign a bad contract he ceded 35 percent of his pre-tax earnings for management in the deal and owes him more than $151,000 in back pay. He is asking for a court order to break the contract.

Overeem, who split with Golden Glory and joined Xtreme Couture this past month, is suing for unspecified damages.

In a statement released by The Law Offices of Roderick J. Lindblom, KOI and Golden Glory allege their own issues:

"This lawsuit is a preemptive action on the part of Mr. Overeem and his counsel in response to KOI's recent notification to Mr. Overeem of numerous violations by him of his management agreement with KOI, including but not limited to his failure to pay commissions for past fights and endorsement deals secured by KOI and Golden Glory.

"KOI and Golden Glory are respected organizations committed to securing the best fight deals and training for their team of fighters. Mr. Overeem's continued suggestions to the contrary are scurrilous and will be vigorously defended in the proper forum.

"Alistair Overeem is a striker he wants to throw the first punch. But this misguided decision to file a lawsuit as a preemptive strike leaves Mr. Overeem vulnerable in ways our clients wished to avoid."

In July, Overeem was cut from his Strikeforce contract in the midst of his participation in the promotion's heavyweight grand prix. UFC president Dana White cited Golden Glory's insistence on routing fighter payments through their company as the reason the fighter was released from the Zuffa-owned company.

Golden Glory head Bas Boon later told MMAjunkie.com he had no issues paying fighters directly. He did, however, threaten legal possible legal action if Overeem did not fulfill the terms of the contract he negotiated.
