CBB launches with 5.1m viewers Posted on August 19, 2011 at 10:10am - Written by Ben
Celebrity Big Brother’s Live Launch last night attracted 5.1million viewers to Channel 5, and tops it as one of their most watched programmes in history.
It all kicked off at 9pm with Brian Dowling as the new host, Marcus Bentley as the voiceover and 10 wild housemates.
For Channel 5 it means that Big Brother has been their most watched programme already. The show attracted a resounding 5.1m (21.9%) during it’s 9pm to 10:30pm time slot, with the ratings hitting 6m as the iconic pop teens, Jedward entered the house.
The new spin-off show, Big Brother’s Bit on The Side attracted 1.8m with Emma Willis as the host.
Big Brother has become Channel 5′s most watched programme in 14-years of broadcasting, with an episode of Extraordinary People in 2008 at 3.4m coming in second place.
The launch night partied it’s way through the ratings roof as it smashed BBC1′s hit drama Torchwood, which brought in 3.4m viewers.
There is still a considerable amount of time left for Big Brother to prove successful on the network and only time will tell.
