Lotus test motor op 13 en 14 januari

Conway tekent voor Foyt

Maar zou leuk zijn, héél soms zie je een redelijk tot matige coureur uit Europese feeder-series het opeens aardig tot goed doen daar in de States (misschien de meer "ontspannen" sfeer?)....

Ouwe Tracy klinkt deze week op Twitter erg positief, kan hij z'n farewell seizoen toch maken? Zou ook leuk zijn... Beter doen Tagliani en Bourdais dan ook mee, haha!

Tagliani wordt al tijden gelinkt aan Bryan Herta Racing (waar hij de laatste 1,5 wedstrijd van 2011 voor reed na bij Sam Schmidt aan de kant geschoven te zijn voor Wheldon), en ja, die rijdt met Lotus.

One of those veterans apparently is off the market, as Justin Wilson has signed to return to Dale Coyne Racing.

Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing is another team nearing an announcement. It has signed Takuma Sato and figures to add another driver, perhaps Jay Howard, to its Honda-powered program.

Tagliani, 39, was a race winner in Champ Car and switched to IndyCar competition in 2009. He took two pole positions last year - at the Indy 500 and the following race at Texas - to take 15th place in the standings.

"I'm really happy to drive for BHA. Having known Bryan for a long time, I recognise that he's a nice guy with genuine integrity. I believe that he and [team co-owner] Steve Newey deserve to own a great IndyCar team, and I'm honored to be part of the building of BHA's 2012 program," Tagliani said.

"It's also a great honour for me to represent the Lotus brand as a factory partner. Lotus has so much history in the world of motorsports. As a team, we have a lot of work in front of us and while challenging, it will be fun to be at the core of both engine and team development. BHA has a great group of people and I'm looking forward to working with them."

Herta's car will run in the black and gold livery made famous by Lotus during the early 1970s in Formula 1, thanks to its partner status. Tagliani will assist in the development testing of the Lotus engine before official running gets underway in February.

Servia is bijna rond met Dreyer & Reinbold

SPEED.com has learned that veteran Oriol Servia is all but signed and sealed for the 2012 IZOD IndyCar season with Dennis Reinbold and Robbie Buhl.

The 37-year-old native of Catalonia, Spain was unavailable for comment and believed to be flying to Indianapolis to take his physical and sign his contract.

Respected for his chassis savvy, team attitude and ability to get the most out of his race car, Servia had been talking with Panther Racing about a second seat as teammates with J.R. Hildebrand but nothing could be worked out.

He had also been on A.J. Foyt’s short list but lost out to Mike Conway, who brought sponsorship.

Servia finished fourth in last year’s point standings with Newman/Haas, which closed the doors on its INDYCAR program late last year and left him in a familiar position: ride-less.

Despite finishing second in the 2005 Champ Car points for Newman/Haas, the 1999 Indy Lights champion was at PKV Racing in 2006 and without wheels to start 2007 but substituted for an injured Paul Tracy at Forsythe Racing and would up sixth in the championship.

He was ninth for KV Racing in the unified IRL in 2008 but only a part-time in 2009 with Rahal/Letterman and Newman/Haas.

Dreyer & Reinbold will be powered by a Lotus/Judd engine and is still looking at running two cars this season.

Hinchcliffe bevestigd bij Andretti Autosport

Wheldon had originally secured a deal to take over the NASCAR-bound Patrick's seat for 2012 on the morning of his fatal accident in last year's season-finale at Las Vegas. Hinchcliffe told USA Today that taking the place originally earmarked for the Indy 500 winner was a huge responsibility.

"That weighed on me from the first phone call," the Canadian said. "I look at Dan Wheldon as a tremendous racecar driver and a champion, but also a tremendous person. I'm going to think about him every time I get into that car. There's no doubt that a part of me will be driving for Dan this year."

Hinchcliffe won last year's IndyCar rookie of the year honours on the strength on his performances with the Newman/Haas team, which included best results of fourth in Long Beach, at New Hampshire and Kentucky.

Het is echter maar de vraag of Legge's sponsoring in orde is omdat TrueCar (die volgens de geruchten haar sponsor is) in de problemen schijnt te zijn.

Daarnaast is Wilson i.t.t. eerdere berichten nog niet officieel bevestigd bij Dale Coyne Racing.

Legge contested two Champ Car seasons in 2006 and 2007 with PKV and Dale Coyne before returning to Europe to spend three years as part of Audi's DTM squad.

Lotus rijdt eerste ronden

NASCAR fans turned their attention towards Daytona Beach today as the first day of Sprint Cup testing got under way at the famed Daytona International Speedway, but approximately 200 miles south at the Palm Beach International Raceway complex, a bigger milestone was reached when the Lotus IndyCar engine turned its first laps.

With the first design work beginning last year in mid-February by John Judd’s Engine Developments Limited on behalf of Lotus, the 2.2-liter, twin-turbo V6 engine completed almost a dozen laps in the hands of HVM Racing’s Simona de Silvestro.

With members of Lotus and the EDL team looking on, the Lotus-powered Dallara DW12 met all of its objectives during the shakedown.

“I’d say, overall, things have gone very well,” Judd told SPEED.com. “The car fires up, goes round and round, changes gear…it brakes. In terms of all the major boxes we had to tick, we accomplished it today. For our first shakedown day, it has all gone very well, so far.”

The Lotus team will continue its maiden test on Friday, and Judd says he plans to keep the run plan relatively conservative for now.

“We’re being very cautious right now—slowly, one step at a time. We’re not running full revs or full boost right now. Everything is new, and not just the engine. The car is new, all the systems are new, the McLaren ECU is new to us, so we’re deliberately being conservative on the engine side.”

Over Servià en Sato hoef je je geen zorgen te maken, zij hebben al een plekje gevonden, maar moeten nog gepresenteerd worden.

Ook leuk: Bertrand Baguette mag Rahal Letterman Racings tweede auto hebben, maar hij wacht nog op een besluit van Peugeot Sport met betrekking tot de rijders voor hun World Endurance Championship-programma.

'Viso en Guerreri naar KV Racing'
