MeeGo is een operatingsystem gebaseerd op Linux. Het is gericht op mobiele hardware als telefoons en tablets. Het werkt ook in netbooks, lichte desktops, autocomputers, set-top-boxes en TV's.
MeeGo is momenteel gehost door The Linux Foundation. MeeGo is een samenvoeging van Nokia's Maemo en Intels Moblin. Het werd in februari 2010 aangekondigd door Intel en Nokia. Inmiddels is Nokia er mee gestopt. Intel, AMD en Novell werken momenteel het meest aan MeeGo.
Op 14 april werd bekend dat andere hardwarefabrikanten MeeGo interessant vinden:
• Nu.nl: Fabrikanten tonen interesse in MeeGo
• Webwereld.nl: Concurrenten Nokia storten zich op MeeGo
Persoonlijk denk ik dat het een erg interessante opvolger is van Maemo, wat op de Nokia N900 draait. Ik ben erg benieuwd op welke (telefoon-)hardware het ding uit gaat komen.
.Zijn hier mensen die het al hebben geprobeerd? Zou je het aandurven? Wat zijn je verwachtingen er van?
Dus ik kan het draaien op mijn Acer Aspire Netbook? Wil het best proberen. Zag zo snel niet of er een 'LiveDVD/USB' versie van is.

Ja. Ik heb het een tijd gedraaid op mijn Aspire One (de eerste, met de trage 8 GB SD, 512 MB ram en het vreselijke "Linpus Linux" dat men standaard meeleverde) en het werkte an sich prima. Het design is wel... opvallend. De gekleurde poppetjes moeten je wel aanspreken.quote:

Groot nadeel echter was het gebrek aan goede repositories. Er is er een van de community zelf met het meest essentiele (oa codecs en VLC), en je kan OpenOffice installeren - maar het is allemaal nog wel wat bèta. Er staat nu dus een Ubuntu afgeleide op.
Ik heb nu Ubuntu 10.04 LTS normale NL editie geinstalleerd staan. Heeft MeeGo voor mij meerwaarde? Zelf start ik eigenlijk nooit Windows XP meer op wat er origineel bij geleverd is

Nokia wil vanwege zijn overstap naar Windows Phone 7 halfhartig van MeeGo af, maar andere fabrikanten zijn er als de kippen bij om het opensource-platform te omarmen. Huawei en Panasonic willen zich volgens geruchten aansluiten bij de Handset Working Group van Meego.
Meego werd eerder al omarmd door LG en ZTE, en ook door China Mobile als nieuw besturingssysteem. Het op Linux gebaseerde MeeGo is een samensmelting van twee andere besturingssystemen: Maemo van Nokia, dat momenteel alleen op de Nokia N900 is te vinden, en Moblin van Intel, dat met lede ogen zag hoe zijn belangrijkste ontwikkelingspartner - Nokia - uit Meego stapte.

According to the recent news from multiple sources, there will be two MeeGo devices from Nokia coming very soon.
The first one is the one that could be seen on the video teaser that leaked recently, looking just like the last year's "N9" (and actually being it), with hardware keyboard. It will be based on the same processor as the N900 (Cortex-A8) but clocked at 1 GHz, and 512 MB of operating memory (RAM) + swap. The display is larger (4") and supports multitouch. This device will NOT be sold, it will be available to Maemo/MeeGo developers and supporters only. Some units will most probably be handed to attendees of the upcoming MeeGo Conference in San Francisco. (My-Maemo can't be there, but hopefully with 10,000 page impressions a day it will still qualify as a "supporter"...)
The second MeeGo model will be keyboard-less, but will be based on a considerably more powerful hardware, the same that will be used by Nokia in their future Windows Phone 7.5 smartphones: ST-Ericsson chipset including dual-core Cortex-A9 processor (can be clocked up to 1.2 GHz) and (probably) Mali-400 GPU (graphics accelerator). This model will also feature a 4" multitouch display, 512 MB or 1 GB RAM (+ swap), and will be available commercially, most probably within several weeks.
I can feel a lot of optimism coming back to me :-)

Full specs or a final name is still not out, but the handset is likely to arrive in Pink, Blue and Black. The device looks super slim and seems to be running Nokia’s version of the MeeGo which has been under development for quite sometime.

Openoffice werkt. Libreoffice enzo vast ook. Daarnaast zijn er als alternatief voor die kolossen ook nog losse programma's als abiword. Of, als je aan serieus wetenschappelijk publicatiewerk wil gaan doen, LaTeX
Maar de distributie kan, ondanks het leuke uiterlijk, qua functionaliteit en ease of use nog altijd niet in de schaduw staan van lichte ubuntu varianten.
