As for the central #Libya map (http://yfrog.com/gz36cqj) note that some Saadi Brigade troops fled from Ras Lanuf south, into the desert.

Dat kaartje doet het niet.

Gaddafi Doesn't Trust His Own Tribe
Reports now coming in are that when Gaddafi, in the town of Sirt, recently distributed weapons to his own tribe to fight against the revelutionaries, who are now protesting all over Libya, he did not arm all of them. It appears he only distributed weapons to his own branch of the Gaddafi's.

Now it appears that Sirt has been ready for revolt, but the presence of the Saadi brigade prevented that.

It seems that today in Ras Lanuf's action, some Furjan soldiers under Gaddafi refused to comply with orders to fight the rebelion, and about 20 bodies have been found tied up.

The humiliating defeat of the Saadi brigade today in Ras Lanuf also helps increase probability of uprising in Sirt.

Previously, there were voices calling to completely avoid attacking Sirt, afraid that a bloody tribal battle will ensue. This is significant because revolutionary forces are reported to be within 150 kms from Sirt right now. If Sirt would join the revolution, it would be a game changer, allowing free movement from the east to the west, especially Misurata.

Ras Lanuf now flies the independence flag. But there are a great number of injuries and limited medical supplies in the city.

Ach, we zullen zien.

How Libyas tribes will decide Gaddafi's fate
Colonel Gaddafi has lost control over Libya's tribes they urgently need support, argues Ranj Alaaldin.

Win over the tribes, take the state: Colonel Gaddafis fate could be decided by Libyas various tribal groups. Each is different to one another by virtue of their location, composition and their historic relationship with the regime. But each retains the same vital ability to either disrupt or stabilise the politics and security of the state. They should be taken seriously.
Like Saddam Hussein during his dictatorial reign, Gaddafi has cunningly played the tribal game. By offering economic privileges and fermenting intra-tribal rivalries and combining these with a healthy doese of coercion Gaddafi secured the loyalty of the tribes and fostered an effective network of patronage. He ensured that competing tribal groups were all represented in the army, so that he maintained his control over it and, by definition, the state. Oil revenues, meanwhile, enabled Gaddafi to spread the wealth among tribes and keep them tamed.
Not any more.
Libya's biggest tribe, the Warfala, has switched sides to back the anti-government revolutionary groups. They are one million strong and dominant in the northern cities of Bani Walid, Tripoli and Benghazi. The Tarhuna, also nearly one million strong with around 350,000 followers in Tripoli, have followed suit.
Other significant tribes to have defected include the Zawiya, who have threatened to cut the flow of oil to Western countries unless the regime crackdown stops; the Zentan tribe; the Bani Walid; and the Obeidat tribe of Abdul-Fatah Younis, the former interior minister who sensationally defected and maintains he has proof that Gaddafi ordered the Lockerbie Bombing.

These various groups and their leaders have already played their part in the revolution by encouraging their sons to defect from the security forces and refuse orders to attack demonstrators. The oil-rich eastern region of Libya, for example, is now rebel-controlled territory. The lynchpin city of the regime, Tripoli, is yet to fall, but some of its districts have.
But the tribes can still do more with the right support. They will be pivotal if rebel numbers are to increase; they will need arms and organisational support. The international community, as it ponders over its options and the possibility of arming the opposition, often queries where arms should go if and when it takes this course of action: the tribes would be a good place to start.
Increased support for the tribes would also accelerate the downfall of the regime by persuading the other indecisive tribes to turn on Gaddafi and swell the ranks of the opposition. This includes the propped up and smaller Gaddafi tribe of the dictator himself; and the large Magarha tribe, located in the west of the country. The Magarha boasts Colonel Abdullah al-Sannussi as one of its own, the Gaddafi loyalist and powerful head of the Libyan internal and external security organisations.
Libyans are facing the possibility of a protracted conflict that destroys the social, political and security structures of the state. As a result, the tribes will be best-placed to provide social cohesiveness and a resilient social structure that can organise, mobilise and galvanise the people.
To make full and effective use of the tribes, Libyans and the international community should back the formation of a tribal council that, right now, integrates some 30 significant tribes more effectively and efficiently into the broader anti-Gaddafi strategy and, later, the post-Gaddafi Libyan reconstruction process.
This initiative would send a credible message of unity and certainty to the undecided pro-regime tribes concerned about where they may stand in a post-Gaddafi Libya, both politically and economically. It will convince them and other regime loyalists that Libya is moving on without Gaddafi. bron

2232 We're going to wind up our live coverage at the end of another day of twists and turns in Libya. Protesters returned to the streets of Tripoli after Friday prayers, and while Libyan security forces replied with tear gas, there was less evidence of deadly force than in recent weeks. Outside the capital, though, rebels and government forces are jockeying for supremacy in both the east and west of the country - with reports of bitter fighting at Zawiya in the wast and Ras Lanouf in the east. (BBC)

Kan er niemand een mooi en goed nieuwsberichtje in elkaar zetten en het aanbieden aan de FP? Eigenlijk is het veels te stil en dat hoort niet. Zeker niet t.o.v. een korte tijd geleden.

Tripoli's madman begins the massacre
According to Ennahar special sources, the provisional results of the air raid by the Libyan army in the night from Friday to Saturday, in Ras Naloufi, 700 km east of Tripoli, have reached 20 dead and dozens injured.

Our sources add that the military region of Tella, located 30 km east of Benghazi, was the theatre of this attack too. A team of civil protection elements that was inside to evacuate the wounded and victims of the raid were killed and 23 elements were charred.
The Libyan army also raided a medical caravan composed of 6 members with equipment and medical equipment sent by the Egyptian doctors' union in solidarity with the Libyan people.
Several regions of Libya are experiencing an upsurge of violence since Friday morning. Clashes between military units and insurgents occurred in Ajdabya, Brega east and Ras Lanuf (center) and Zawiyah near the capital Tripoli.
In addition, in several cities protesters demonstrate, like in Tripoli, and this after Friday prayers, calling tyrant Moammar Gadhafi of departure.

According to Ennahar sources, dozens of pro Gaddafi army soldiers would have rebelled yesterday evening following the carnage of Tripoli and Sirte and are currently en route to the eastern cities to join the insurgents.

Mja ik denk dat het wel goed zit, 't is (volgens die site) niet verbonden aan de Algerijnse regering. Dus lijkt me vrij objectief.

Libya: British Army ready for mission at 24 hours notice

Sources confirmed that The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion the Royal Regiment of Scotland, had been placed on heightened readiness, prepared to deploy to North Africa at 24 hours notice.

The 600-strong infantry unit returned from Afghanistan in late 2009 and is based at Fort George near Inverness. Theyre ready, just in case, said a source.
