I announced I will not run in upcoming elections. I announced I will adhere to that position. It's important to be laying down a framework to be agreed upon for peaceful transition of power. Committed to responsibility to take country from these harsh moments. I will observe all hour by hour. Backing of every person keen of people's interests. Proper implementation will be safeguarded by interpreted armed forces.

We can lay our foot on the right path to exit this crisis. We will move into a clean road with a specific timetable. Day after day we will follow a path of peaceful transition from today till September next.

I handed down orders to speed up investigations of last week's events. I will take necessary legal actions. Yesterday I have received first reports of the constitutional amendments. I will examine them. In response to the report laid by committee and recommendations, I today proposed the amendments of six constitutional articles (nummers hier) in addition to the annulment of article (169? niet zeker), prepared to propose at later stage to amend the articles as required.

I will enforce supervision over elections, ensure it is fair and transparent.

Protect nation from terrorists. Suitable circumstances available to lift emergency law now. Priority is to restore confidence among all Egyptians, in economy, in transformation and the change that started. Egypt is braving through hard times, we will not tolerate those circumstances to continue, there is damage to the economy day by day. All will add up in situation where the youth who are calling for reform change will be first victims. All Egyptians should continue engaging in national dialogue, with a friendly atmosphere. There should be no distancing from distances in order to brave through crisis and restore confidence in the Egyptian economy. Stability and peace to citizens. We should restore the normal way of life in Egyptian streets. I learned tactics of military when I was young, went to war, won victories, lived days of occupations and days of victories. The happiest day when I lifted the flag of Egypt. I faced death on many occasions, never dictated orders, saved peace, worked for stability and peace, development, and never forcefully sought power or popularity. Majority of people are aware of who Hosni Mubarak is. I feel pain in my heart from what I hear from some countrymen.

Mubarak heeft tot grote woede van de naar schatting miljoenen demonstranten op en rond het Tahrir-plein, tijdens de overigens te laat begonnen speech, aangegeven niet op te stappen. Hij herhaalde zijn beloftes die hij eerder heeft gedaan. Hij zal in september zich niet herverkiesbaar stellen.

Verder zal ook de noodwetgeving in het land nog niet worden opgeheven en belooft hij veranderingen in de grondwet. De demonstranten willen deze veranderingen, maar vinden het veel belangrijker dat Mubarak opstapt.

Halverwege de speech, toen duidelijk was dat de president aan zou blijven, werden de demonstranten woedend en begon een groot deel te scanderen: "Mubarak zal weggaan, Mubarak moet weggaan." Mubarak doet dit dus vooralsnog niet.
