Ireland : Rebecca Creighton joins team Jedward
21-years-old X-Factor star Rebecca Creighton will be teaming up with Jedward at their rendition of Lipstick live at Eurosong 2011. This doesn't come up as a surprise as the twins met Rebecca backstage at the X-Factor show and since then they have been in talks for a musical collaboration.
Ireland decided to change the format of their Eurovision selection show in order to increase their chances to achieve a better result at Europe's favourite show or even win this contest for the 8th time. As a result, this year's Irish national selection features a brand new format consisting in the usage of five so-called 'Eurovision experts' or mentors that are supposed to teach the participating artists how to become a Eurovision winner. Five acts, each of them mentored by five music professionals involved in the Irish show-business, will fight for the lucky ticket that will assure them the right to represent the Emerald Isle at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011. The winner will be chosen by a combination of tele voting and regional juries, just like last year.
Former X-Factor star Rebecca Creighton will be featured in the routine of Jedward, one of the most discussed act of this year's Eurosong. Rebecca is aware of the fact that the twins received a mixed reaction about their participation in the Eurovision Song Contest, so she declared the following :
"They have a great following but I know they get a mixed reaction and not everyone loves them. They're just two young boys having the craic. [...] People have to listen to the song first before deciding whether they like it or not and not just switch off because it's them. I hope they'll support us.", says Rebecca.
This decision arises speculations over the future of Rebecca's band Belle Amie, which is said to be history. "I don't know what's going to happen, to be honest," she said. "We just need to all sit down together and decide what's happening."
This is how the line-up of this year's Eurosong is looking like :

5.Nikki Kavanagh - Falling (Christina Schilling, Camilla Gottschalck, Jonas Gladnikoff and Hanif Sabzevari) - mentored by David Hayes
As RTÉ previously announced, the participating songs will be available for listening on February 5th, when a special documentary about Eurosong and this year's mentors will be broadcast by RTÉ One. The Irish national broadcaster also confirmed Niamh Kavanagh's presence at this year's The Late Late Show : a Eurosong special. The former Eurovision winner will be performing at the show that brought her the honour of representing the Emerald Isle for the second time at Europe's favourite music show.
Ireland will compete in the second half of the second semi-final of this year's Eurovision Song Contest.

Falling klinkt als een hitje. Send me an angel lijkt me ook wel mooi. De rest niet echt boeiend.
Lipstick is een vlak liedje zo te horen. Erg trashy, zoooo niet-leuk! Hopelijk sturen ze de twins dus niet. En die kans is aanwezig, omdat het nummer een paar dagen terug nog op amazon was te horen, wat tegen de regels in gaat. De nummers mochten namelijk niet voor een bepaalde datum te horen zijn.

Five acts will fight for the honour of representing the Emerald Isle at Europe's favourite music competition. Don Mescall, Jedward, Bling, The Vard Sisters and Nikki Kavanagh are all part of Eurosong 2011's line-up and will try to conquer the hearts of the Irish viewers as well as the regional juries located in Cork, Dublin, Dundalk, Galway, Limerick and Sligo. The winner will be chosen by a combination of televoting (33%) and regional juries (67%).

"Falling" van Nikki Kavanagh was zó goed - en precies het genre dat de laatste jaren scoort (pop). Het doet me denken aan IlseDelange en aan "Drip drop" van vorig jaar. Wat zijn de kansen van Ierland toch geslonken door Jedward in plaats van haar te kiezen, van Top 10 in de finale naar de laatste 3 in de halve finale...
Jedward mag gediskwalificeerd worden alleen al om hun kapsels, ik hoop dat ze ziek worden of een ongeluk krijgen vlak voor Düsseldorf waardoor Nikki Kavanagh op het laatste moment ingevlogen moet worden.

In studioversie vind ik het wel een leuk liedje, live is het (zijn ze) vooral heel vervelend...

Ik vind dit wel zo'n vreselijk lied. Zelfs als ik dood ben zou ik het niet aan kunnen horen. Heb net een video gezien waar ze live optreden, dat is nog twintig keer erger dan de official video.
Ik kan me niet voorstellen dat dit buiten de Britse eilanden gewaardeerd wordt, en al helemaal niet door de jury's, dus het zal wel bij 3 minuten ellende blijven.
