United Kingdom - ESCflashMalta reports that the BBC has approached three artists concerning the British representation at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Germany. The names mentioned are Pixie Lott, whose latest single was not as big a success as expected, Kathrine Jenkins, a classical singer trying to have her breakthrough in the United States and former child star Charlotte Church. According to EfM several sources confirm that Charlotte Church, who has been trying to start a pop career recently, has been chosen by the BBC. Apparently she has even been offered a contract. The song might be selected in the traditional “A song for Europe” format. More detailed information or even confirmation is expected to be announced shortly by the BBC.
Charlotte Church is a Welsh singer-songwriter. She rose to fame during her childhood as a classical singer before branching into pop music in 2005. By 2007, she had sold more than 11,000,000 albums worldwide . Church released her first album in 5 years, titled Back To Scratch, on October 25, 2010.

Blue to represent the United Kingdom
Eurovision Song Contest 2011 in Dusseldorf. They will perform a new song and as such, there will be no national selection show for the country this year. It is the first time since Frances Ruffelle represented the country in 1994 that the public has not chosen the artist to represent Britain. The BBC are expected to confirm the news later this evening.
Blue consists of Simon Webbe, Antony Costa, Duncan James and Lee Ryan. Having already announced plans to record new material in 2009 and after a successful performance at Capital FMs Summertime ball and Silverstone Classic Festival in 2009 Blue will be coming back with a brand new song.
Blue was formed in 2001 and up until 2005 they had a hugely successful career selling over 13 million albums across Europe. They have had three UK number one studio albums and have sold 10x platinum in the UK and 4x platinum in Europe. They have also had 3 Uk number 1 singles and a further 8 top 10 hits. The band has sung duets with artists such as Elton John, Stevie Wonder and Kool & the Gang.
This is not the first time the boys have been linked to the Eurovision Song Contest. In 2006 Anthony Costa tried his luck at representing his native UK by entering Eurovision: Making your mind up. His song Its a beautiful thing was beaten into 2nd place with 96 points after Daz Sampsons Teenage life managed to win the majority of the UK vote. Duncan James has also played a part in recent British Eurovision histroy. In 2009 he was a regular
panelist/judge on Eurovision: Your country needs you where Jade Ewen won and presented the UK with its best result (5th place) since Jessica Garlicks 3rd place in 2002. He also announced the UKs votes in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 final.

Tonight was supposed to be the night that the British public see and hear the first performance of Blue's Eurovision entry for the United Kingdom, I Can, on the Graham Norton Show. Well, it will certainly be the first time people see it, as the song leaked in full over the internet yesterday afternoon shortly after I Can received its press launch in London.
And the song has had a remarkably positive reception from just about the majority of those who have heard it. Bookmakers now have the boys from Blue at around about third or fourth favourite to win the thing (it's a long time since the UK had such good odds, even in 2009 with the presence of Andrew Lloyd Webber our entry was never fancied to do spectacularly well).
I must confess to a spot of naughtiness, I had a listen to the not-exactly-official sneak preview of the packed three minutes of tune myself when I got home from work last night. And I think...
...it will all depend on the live performance on the night. As the photo up there shows, there is definitely some simple-yet-illustrative choreography going on and it will be interesting to hear how the boys deliver the effects-laden track live on stage.
It has the potential to do very well, there's a thumpingly good intro and first verse but if I have to pick up on one thing is that trhe chorus is perhaps the least memorable part of what is still a very memorable track capable of landing large dents in the scoreboard on May 14. It's so far away from last year's entry in terms of style and quality it's passed through five different time zones to reach its detsination of far-awayness. What's more, the experience Simon, Duncan, lee and Anthony have of singing live in huge arenas will do them a lot of favours in Germany in about nine weeks from now.
I think I'll feel even more positive about the UK's chances after seeing the whole package on Graham Norton's show tonight (tune in to BBC One from about 10.30pm if you want to check it out for yourself). But right now only two things concerns me about Mission Blue:
(a) It 's the draw on Tuesday and I hope beyond hope we're not lumbered with an early draw - although a good song like this is usually draw-proof.
(b) If the juries and the televoters are in an anthemic mood, there's a good chance they'll go for Denmark over this. That's when the who-comes-across-better live factor will really come into play.
But those are minor worries. Well done lads, you've done good.

Het nummer is echt niks bijzonders. Cliché-akkoordjes, echt al een miljoen keer gedaan. Het is verontrustend hoe weinig originaliteit deze editie van het songfestival nog laat zien. Het stikt van de nummers die zijn gebaseerd op alom beproefde akkoordenschema's.
Normaal gesproken zou deze meuk niet hoog scoren, maar aangezien Blue wat bekender is dan andere deelnemers, hebben ze daar voordeel van. Maar het zou echt aan muzikale aanfluiting zijn als dit middelmatige nummer het songfestival wint.
Ik zet mijn kaarten op Estland, met Denemarken als gevaarlijke outsider.
Normaal gesproken zou deze meuk niet hoog scoren, maar aangezien Blue wat bekender is dan andere deelnemers, hebben ze daar voordeel van. Maar het zou echt aan muzikale aanfluiting zijn als dit middelmatige nummer het songfestival wint.
