Dat onderzoek loopt nog. Er is althans nog geen nieuws over.

Fountain Valley, CA – Identifinders International and the University of Adelaide announce the identification of the Somerton Man as Carl “Charles” Webb, born 16 November 1905, Footscray, Victoria to Richard August Webb (1866-1939) and Eliza Amelia Morris Grace (1871-1946). He was resident of Melbourne, and by profession an electrical engineer and instrument maker.
The Somerton Man is Australia’s most well-known forensic case that has defied analysis since the man was found dead on Somerton Beach, South Australia, on 1 December1948. The identification was made based on rootless hair found embedded in the man’s plaster death mask held at the South Australia Police Museum. Professor Derek Abbott of the University of Australia was permitted access to the mask and the hair in 2011 by the South Australian Police.
In 2018 the University of Adelaide successfully extracted the whole mitochondrial genome which established that the Somerton Man was Caucasian European along the direct female line of this family. Abbott and Fitzpatrick were able to create a forensic genetic genealogy profile that was used to identify the man.
Another important clue was that Webb’s sister Freda was married to Thomas Keane. The name “T. Keane” or “Keane” appeared on several items in the Somerton Man’s suitcase, discovered atthe Adelaide train station shortly after he died.
A twist in the story is that Robin Thomson who has been thought to be a descendant of the Somerton Man was found to have no DNA link. Fitzpatrick and Abbott were able to conclusively eliminate Robin, even though he notably shares rare teeth and ear features with the Somerton Man.

Fitzpatrick and Abbott say Robertson filed for divorce in Melbourne, but 1951 documents revealed she had moved to Bute, South Australia -- 144 kilometers (89 miles) northeast of Adelaide -- establishing a link to the neighboring state, where the body was found.
"It's possible that he came to this state to try and find her," Abbott speculated. "This is just us drawing the dots. We can't say for certain say that this is the reason he came, but it seems logical."
The information on public record about Webb sheds some light on the mysteries that have surrounded the case. They reveal he liked betting on horses, which may explain the "code" found in the book, said Abbott, who had long speculated that the letters could correspond to horses' names.
And the "Tamam Shud" poem? Webb liked poetry and even wrote his own, Abbott said, based on his research.

Het zou ook de jongen naast hem op de hoek kunnen zijn, of degene die rechts naast de leraar staat.

Of hij staat er helemaal niet op. Het is nog niet zeker, maar alles lijkt te kloppen.

Er is wat speurwerk gedaan naar de foto van het voetbalteam.
De jongeman die links naast het bord zit is aan de hand van andere foto’s herkend als G. Wilson, dus niet de Somerton Man.
De jongen naast hem op de hoek is nu de hoofdverdachte. Ik ga nu ook voor deze. Zijn oren komen overeen met de opvallende oren van de Somerton Man.
De jongeman erboven (middelste rij helemaal links) wordt ook genoemd. Dat zie ik niet zo.
