Wat mij wel zorgen baart is die methode van die reliefs wells, hier verwacht ik toch dat BP moeilijkheden gaat krijgen. Probeer maar eens blindelings een plek aan te boren onder de zeebodem op een afstand van 3 tot 4 km met een foutmarge van hooguit 30 cm.

Daarnet was er een iets beter shot waarop een enorm lel buis te zien is wat erop gemonteerd zit ik was helaas te laat met cappen. Kwestie van de kap eroverheen en gaan met die banaan zou ik bijna zeggen.

Ik wil toch wel héél graag weten wat ze nu nog allemaal aan het testen zijn, ofzoiets. Die kap zit er nog steeds niet overheen.

Youtube staat nog steeds vol met filmpjes van mensen die claimen dat er genoeg olie is aangespoeld, maar dat mensen er niet in de buurt mogen komen en dat er in sommige gevallen ook gewoon zand over vervuilde stranden is gestort (dat laatste kon je dan ook echt zien).

De nieuwe kap zit erop! Met deze kap kunnen ze in het gunstigste geval de hele bron afsluiten aangezien de 'kap' echt helemaal vastgeschroefd zit op de BOP (en dus gesealed is).
Ze gaan de komende uren de integriteit van de bron testen door hem helemaal af te sluiten. Er zou dan , voor het eerst sinds de explosie, geen olie meer in zee moeten stromen.

It is expected, although cannot be assured, that no oil will be released to the ocean for the duration of the test. This will not however be an indication that flow from the wellbore has been permanently stopped.
Information gathered during the test will be reviewed with the relevant government agencies including the federal science team to determine the way forward. Options include reinstatement of containment as well as extending the test duration beyond 48 hours.

Het kan tot 48 uur duren voordat ze de bron dicht hadden stond in het artikel. Edit: De test kon tot 48 uur duren.. weet ook niet waarom er nog zo veel olie te zien is. Over een paar uur hebben ze weer een technical briefing.
Daarbij lijkt het me dat de flow iets minder is dan voorheen? Ik zie in ieder geval wel duidelijk de kap waarop ze een fatsoenlijke buis kunnen aansluiten om alle olie naar boven te voeren na de tests.

The next unknown is whether the 18-foot-high, 150,000-pound metal stack of pipes and valves will work. BP plans to start tests Tuesday, gradually shutting the valves to see if the oil stops or if it starts leaking from another part of the well
The cap will be tested by closing off three separate valves that fit together snugly like pairs of fists, choking off the oil and blocking it from entering the Gulf.
BP doesn't want the flow of oil to stop instantaneously, said Don Van Nieuwenhuise, director of Professional Geosciences Programs at the University of Houston. Shutting the oil off too quickly could cause another explosion, he said.
Rather than like a train running into a brick wall, it'll be more like putting the brakes on slowly," he said. "That's what they're aiming for. You can keep the brakes on and everyone arrives alive, or you hit the wall and have big problems."
Engineers will be watching pressure readings. High pressure is good, because it would mean the leak has been contained inside the wellhead machinery. But if readings are lower than expected, that could mean there is another leak elsewhere in the well."Another concern right now would be how much pressure the well can take," and whether intense pressure would further damage the well, said Eric Smith, associate director of the Tulane Energy Institute.
Even if the cap works, the blown-out well will still be leaking. But the newer, tighter cap will enable BP to capture all the oil, or help funnel it up to ships on the surface if necessary.
One of those ships, the Helix Producer, began operating Monday and should be up to its capacity of collecting roughly 1 million gallons of oil a day within a few days, Suttles said.
A permanent fix will have to wait until one of two relief wells being drilled reaches the broken well, which will then be plugged up with drilling mud and cement. That may not happen until mid-August.

Vooral (grotere) roofvissen zitten vol met dioxines en afval. Door de recente olieramp zal de kwaliteit van het zeewater niet beter worden, en al helemaal niet door alle zogenoemde extra oploschemicaliën (het domste concept ooit) die de olie moeten verdunnen. Kleinere vissen raken vol van zulke stoffen. Roofdieren die teren op zulke vissen krijgen deze stoffen dus dagelijks meerdere malen binnen, waarna het wordt opgeslagen in het vet en weefsel (=des te groter de vis, des te meer schadelijke stoffen).
Als jong kind, zwangere vrouw of iemand met een sowieso al lage weerstand schijnt het zelfs afgeraden worden meerdere keren per maand zulke vis te eten.
De British Petroleum company mag wat mij betreft opgedoekt worden en omgedoopt tot de Blue Planet company, waarbij het al zijn kapitaal zal investeren in duurzaamheid en ecologische oplossingen voor huidige vervuiling wereldwijd (Cradle tot Cradle). Met zo'n startkapitaal wordt het nog een succes ook, en kunnen ze de zee misschien blauwer maken in plaats van donker en grauw.
