quote:Speculation: Dante's Inferno 2 in Development at Visceral Games, Staffing Up
by Brian Leahy Jun 29, 2010 7:40pm CST tags: Dantes Inferno 2, Dantes Inferno, Visceral Games, Electronic Arts, Rumor
A job posting hit Electronic Arts' site today for a "Lead Level Designer" at Visceral Games to work on a "sequel to a major new IP at the" studio. Should Dante's Inferno 2 be in the works, the timing is right for hiring to begin with the original game having been released in February and Dead Space 2 well into development.
Dante's Inferno
It stands to reason that a sequel would be adapted from the second book of Dante's Divine Comedy, Purgatorio, which (like Inferno) has a special place for each of the Seven Deadly Sins.
Furthermore, Gamasutra lists the job for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, matching Dante's Inferno's platforms. Dead Space 2 also carries a PC SKU further ruling out Visceral's other franchise.
"The Games Label at EA is 100% committed to this IP, and the IP into film, television, comics, graphic novels, action figures, and the web," reads the posting. "The game sequel will set new quality standards and make the franchise the world-leader in the action/melee-combat genre." Dante's Inferno, of course, featured copious amounts of melee-combat.
While this is not a confirmation that Dante's Inferno 2 is in development, the evidence certainly appears stacked in its favor. Given the timing of this job posting, it's interesting that nothing was announced at E3 2010 if Dante's Inferno 2 is truly in development. However, it's quite possible that EA and Visceral wanted to spotlight Dead Space 2, which is due out next year.
Shacknews has contacted Electronic Arts for comment, but none was available at the time of publishing.
Altijd leuk hoorquote:

quote:Heavy rain creator David Cage has told Eurogamer that he doubts further downloadable content for superb PS3 exclusive Heavy Rain will ever be made.
Chronicle Taxidermist, released alongside the special edition of the game in March, is likely the first and last Heavy Rain downloadable content, Cage said.
Incorporating PlayStation Move support into Heavy Rain would have compromised the quality of future Chronicles, Cage explained.
"Our approach was to make no compromise on the quality of the Chronicles and offer exactly the same quality than the original game. So the answer is yes. Chronicles as we saw them were ambitious and with high expectations. As explained, they are on hold to allow the team to work on Move and on new projects, and I doubt they will ever be produced."
Cage's comments are sure to disappoint PS3 owners left hungry for more Heavy Rain content following the release of Chronicle Taxidermist.
The news is even more disappointing given Cage had already written the scripts for three Chronicles prequels.
But it appears nobody is more disappointed than Cage himself.
"My personal choice was to work on more Chronicles explaining the background of each character," Cage told us.
"The stories were very strong and would have been very surprising for all Heavy Rain fans. Sony wanted more AAA adult games to support the Move and they thought that Heavy Rain was the perfect fit.
"For me, there was really a choice to make, because I did not want to postpone the work on our next projects spending one more year on Heavy Rain, and given the time and attention we put in developing our games, this is what it would have meant."
Despite this, Cage now believes his Move-enabled Heavy Rain is something to be proud of.
"I understand Sony's decision and it gave us the opportunity to explore new possibilities regarding controls," he explained. "I am really proud of this Move edition and think it will surprise many gamers and show that Move can be used for things other than family entertainment. Now as a writer and director, would I have preferred to work on the three Chronicles I wrote? Guess."
Sony announced Heavy Rain Move Edition during its E3 2010 press conference.
The updated version of the game will be released at retail later this year and a patch will also be made available to existing owners.

SCE Worldwide Studios pres Shuhei Yoshida "very aware" of demand
Thursday 1-Jul-2010 8:19 PM
President of SCE Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida has said that Sony is "very aware" of the demand for PS2 classics Ico and Shadow of the Colossus to appear on PS3 and is "keen to look into" doing it.
"As soon as we released the God of War Collection, people were giving us suggestions and Ico and Shadow of the Colossus was at the top of the list," Yoshida told 1UP.
"We are very aware, and we want to see and play it in HD with a better frame rate as well. So that's something that we're very aware of and I hope that and when [gamers] see the Sly Cooper collection it will be another good example of what we can do with the classic games," he added.
"That is something we are very keen to look into."
Sony kicked off the PS2-to-PS3 trend with a God of War Collection disc containing Kratos' first two games, which is to be followed up by a three-in-one collection of Sucker Punch's Sly Cooper series later this year, complete with 3D support.
