The story behind how I came into posession of this video is as follows: In the days after the 9/11 incident, I was working as a technical support phone rep for a software company in California. I was contacted by a man with support questions for one of our products and he indicated his address was in New York, New York. I asked him about his personal experience during the attacks and he told me that his apartment was actually right across the street from the World Trade Center buildings. He told me he set up his camera on a tripod on his apartment balcony after the first plane struck.

A few months ago I was contacted by the producers / creators of Loose Change, a documentary about 9/11 which makes claims that the US government was responsible in part or in whole. They were aware of this video and were trying to find out how to get ahold of the gentleman who shot it. I tried calling my old job and having an ex-coworker there track down the address of the customer but they turned up empty handed. I don't remember his name and unfortunately this is the highest resolution version i have.

Many people have posted comments on YouTube about how this video must be fake for a variety of reasons. I addressed many of the common reasons in an e-mail exchange with one particular poster. I will post the e-mail exchange here for you to read:

Wow, I ended up writing a lot here. Probably because most of the e-mails i get about this video are simply "you suck! this is fake!" So I appreciated actually getting some coherent feedback from you.

First of all, let me clarify the "friend" part of how I cam into possession of this video. When 9/11 happened I was working tech support for a co. in california. Basically my job was to answer phone calls and e-mails from clients who had problems with the company's software. Well, in the days following 9/11 (honestly I don't remember if it was the day after or a few days after), one of the customers who called said his address was New York, New York. So obviously I asked him about his personal experience during 9/11. He said he had set up a video camera on the balcony of his apartment, which was several blocks from the twin towers, immediately after the first plane hit. This guy had a personal blog page and he had uploaded the video for friends and family to see, but he gave me the URL to check out the video and I downloaded it and saved it. In fact, I posted this video on my own personal blog page (it's since long gone) the same day I got it.

So, the fact that I got this video just days after the attack means it's either genuine or the dude is a master CG artist who works incredibly fast.

Here's my thoughts on your questions / comments:

1. The sound. There is a roar and a crash sound at about 25 seconds in. I don't know what makes you think the sound is coming from inside the apartment. One reason the roar and crash happen moments after the visual impact is because the camera is several blocks away and zoomed in. Sound travels slower than light.

2. Where is the guy and why don't we hear him? I honestly don't know. Maybe he's inside watching the news? I mean, he certainly didn't know a second plane was coming.

3. The explosion. I've worked in print design and video design and went to Film school and I also dabble in my own special fx for fun (check out some of my other lame videos). In my opinion this looks absolutely genuine. If it is fake, it is an incredibly well made CG animation and like I mentioned above, would have been created in an insanely short amount of time.

On a side note, I was recently e-mailed by someone who said this video appears in an HBO documentary about 9/11. I don't know if this is true or not.

Also, there is a video called "Lose Change" you may have heard of. The director of that movie contacted me because he was trying to find this dude so he could get a higher resolution version. He even knew the guys name. I called my old work and had an ex co-worker there attempt to pull up this guy's info based on the client contacts i had logged but the database had been changed at the company. She did give me several phone numbers for people who were registered in New York and had the same name as the guy but when I called each of them, they had no connection to this video.

So, I guess my bottom line is, it looks genuine and I saw it just days after 9/11 so I doubt anyone would have had time to create such a well crafted hoax that quickly.

It was a good 70 stories high, and was part of the WTC1 core:



The spire didn't topple over, but fell more-or-less STRAIGHT DOWN:



IF THE SPIRE MERELY COLLAPSED, FALLING STRAIGHT DOWN, THE HEAVY CORE COLUMNS SHOULD HAVE OBLITERATED THE STAIRWELL AT THE BASE OF THE CORE!

Rather-- the stairwell WOULD survive if the spire was blown with bombs at the base-- a few stories above the stairwell. In this way, the higher spire columns could fall to the side as the base was blasted out. Perhaps several bombs along the base of the core were used to create this result. But it seems clear that a collapse of the spire could not result in this intact stairwell.
