Artics - Homme mark II?
Sheffield band Arctic Monkeys want to get back in the studio after their April US tour wraps up and have their fingers crossed rock heavyweight Josh Homme will work with them on a Humbug follow-up. The Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme was behind the desk for them last year during recording sessions in Joshua Tree.
When asked if it was the first and only time they would work with the rock superstar, Monkeys’ drummer Matt Helders laughingly told 6 Music: "I don't know. He might be a repeat offender. "He promised he'd call, but he's a busy man. We had a great time. We'd love to work with him again in some capacity. It depends. When we're ready to record again, he might be as well, but you know what he's like, he's a very busy man and in demand."
The band beat Homme’s supergoup Them Crooked Vultures, Oxford giants Radiohead, and this year’s top winners Muse and Kasabian, picking up Best Live Act at the NME Awards in London on Wednesday 24 February.
Album No. 4
Describing their diary for the next few months, Matt Helders said: "Detox. Then America, and then after that I think we're quite eager to record some more." Before hitting the road in America, the lads are lined-up for a show at London's Royal Albert Hall on 27 March as part of Roger Daltrey's Teenage Cancer Trust charity series. Despite the fact their third album Humbug was only released in August 2009, Helders admitted they are itching to begin recording again.
"It's exciting to be in the studio," he added. "We had a lot of fun last time, so it's kinda the bit that we enjoy the most. Obviously going on tour is a lot of fun and amazing, so I wouldn't have one without the other, but I think at the moment we're quite ready to get back into it." Their darker, more experimental third offering saw them expand their sonic palette. As for a fourth, bassist Nick O'Malley said: "We've been talking about a few ideas, like doing it really fast. Who knows? Definitely the wings are aloft, so who knows?"
'No' to Glasto
The band admitted they will not perform at Glastonbury Festival in any capacity until they have completed a new record. O'Malley said: "I think we wouldn't want to blow it. We'd rather come back after we'd done an album and play it again, and do it properly."
