Hoogstwaarschijnlijk geïnspireerd door X Japan's Silent Jealousy, dit nummer van de symphonische metalband Versailles. Uitgedost met veel make-up en extravagante kleding die doet denken aan de renaissance en een krachtige, bijna opera-achtige stem van de zanger, creëert de band een krachtige en aparte sound.

De gitaarsolo's in dit nummer zijn ook overweldigend. Hoewel zijn kledingstijl als nogal vreemd wordt ervaren, wordt vooral Hizaki erg geprezen om zijn gitaarkunsten.

Niet alle leden van Versailles zijn er nog. De bassist, artiestennaam Jasmine You, overleed onverwachts op 9 augustus dit jaar.

Er bestaan twee versies van dit nummer. De Engelse genaamd Sanctuary en de Japanse genaamd Passion. De laatste heb ik gekozen simpelweg omdat de zang niet alleen iets mooier is, maar ook de "flow" is beter en dat maakt het geheel toch een stuk mooier.

Utada is een ontzettend populaire popartiest in Japan en heeft mede dankzij de nummers die gebruikt werden in de videogame Kingdom Hearts wereldwijd bekendheid gekregen. Dit nummer werd gebruikt voor het tweede deel van dat eerdergenoemde spel, en haar populariteit steeg verder.

Het is niet vaak dat een nummer die een artiest gebruikt/schrijft voor een serie, film of spel, ook tot een van de beste behoort in zijn/haar discografie. In dit geval is het echter wel zo.

Deze gasten heb ik nog gezien! Een maand en een dag geleden traden ze op in Utrecht. Dit nummer speelden ze helaas niet. Horizont komt van het album Gokusai uit 2006 en sindsdien hebben ze alweer 2 nieuwe albums uitgebracht, dus de kans werd kleiner dat ze deze gingen spelen en ik had het eigenlijk wel verwacht. Maar hopen mag altijd toch?

Een nummer met zo'n prachtige melodie dat het moeilijk is om stil te blijven zitten.

Een Nederlandstalig nummer! Een van de weinige goede. Maar Het Goede Doel was dan ook gewoon goed en het contrast met de Nederlandstalige muziek die vandaag populair is, is dan ook enorm groot. Oh, was ik maar een gijzelaar.

Eminem is een wispelturig artiest die het best tot zijn recht komt als hij een deel van zichzelf laat zien. En daarvoor hoeft het niet altijd over zijn beroerde jeugd of zijn dochter Hailie te gaan, zo bewijst hij in Stan. In Stan vertelt hij een fictief verhaal over een obsessieve fan van Eminem zelf. Hoe verschrikkelijk het verhaal ook klinkt, duidelijk is dat Eminem in Stan een deel van zichzelf legt. LUNA SEA (ja dat vonden ze leuk, die hoofdletters) werd ontdekt door toenmalig gitarist van X Japan, hide, en gecontracteerd op Yoshiki's indie label. Dat ze bijna zo populair zouden worden als X Japan zelf had niemand gedacht. Storm is een van de beste en populairste nummers van de band en laat horen wie ze zijn. Het is een poppy nummer, maar met het unieke laagje van LUNA SEA en het fantastische talent dat elk bandlid bezit eroverheen is het absoluut niet gemiddeld. Deze band hoort zonder twijfel bij de top van de wereld, en iedereen zou ze gehoord moeten hebben.

Mijn favoriete Aretha Franklin-song is haar versie van I Say a Little Prayer, maar die staat er al in. Ook dit is niet het origineel, want dat is van Otis Redding. Maar dit is de bekendste (en, betwistbaar, de beste) versie.

Heerlijk depressief, en wat betreft ook vaak beschouwd als een keerpunt in de carrière van the Beatles. Van de ongecompliceerde popliedjes gingen ze langzaam meer de donkere, psychedelische kant op. En dit was daar het eerste voorbeeld van. Grappig is ook dat juist dit nummer de b-side was van het vrolijke, haast kinderlijke Yellow Submarine.

169 Dannii Minogue - I Begin to Wonder

In 2002 bracht de italiaan JCA de single "I Begin to Wonder" uit, dat werd een hit in vele Europese landen maar niet in de UK. Toch zonde van zo'n nummer. Maar dat gaf wel Dannii Minogue een kans op een nieuwe hit, zij zong de single opnieuw in en toen kwam het toch nog goed. Overigens werd ook Dannii's versie in meerdere landen een hit.
