Also in the studio are Staff Benda Bilili, based around a core of disabled musicians who used to rehearse in a zoo, and who have recently been the subject of a film - Benda Bilili! - which appeared at Cannes to critical acclaim.

There's music from The Burns Unit, an eight-piece Scottish-Canadian collective whose sound has been described as 'indie pop meets carnival rock', and whose members include award-winning folk singer Karine Polwart, alt-folk royalty King Creosote and indie queen Emma Pollock.

Seasick Steve performs songs from his latest album You Can't Teach an Old Dog New Tricks, and forms a hobo power trio alongside drummer Dan Magnusson and bassist John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin and Them Crooked Vultures fame.

Plus Charlie Haden Quartet West, in which the legendary double bassist, veteran collaborator with Ornette Coleman, Pat Metheny and many more, teams up with wife Ruth Cameron to perform music from his Sophisticated Ladies album, which explores the Great American Songbook.

Joining Jools in the studio this week are Leicester's stadium rockers Kasabian with tracks from their fourth album Velociraptor!, and North London's rapper and former Grime MC, and now star of the charts Wretch 32, with songs from his debut album Black and White, including recent No 1 single Don't Go.

Also Crowded House's Neil Finn returns to the show with his 'supergroup' Pajama Club, which features his wife Sharon on bass along with Sean Donnolly and Alana Skyring completing the line-up, the songs on their self-titled debut album coming after late-night jamming sessions between Neil and Sharon.

The show also features young Mali singer Fatoumata Diawara and Warwickshire's own bestselling and award-winning pop-soul singer/songwriter James Morrison.

Canvey Island's guitarist and songwriter Wilko Johnson, particularly associated with the UK rhythm and blues outfit Dr Feelgood, performs classic tracks from their catalogue, joined by the likes of Norma Watt-Roy of the Blockheads and drummer Dylan Howe before they go out on a UK tour.

Joining Jools on the third show of the series is the UK's female folk star, singer-songwriter Laura Marling, with songs from her current LP A Creature I Don't Know. Legendary American singer and showman Tony Bennett performs a couple of songs at the piano from his newest collection of great American songs.

Also, from Nashville, The Silver Seas, who formed when producer Jason Lehning met singer-songwriter Daniel Tashian, son of 60s garage rock legend Barry Tashian of The Remains. They perform songs from their pop rock album Chateau Revenge, which has been described as reminiscent of late-70s AOR recordings. From Jamaica, Jools is joined by reggae singer Little Roy, who has recorded an album of Nirvana songs entitled Battle For Seattle, reworking and giving the likes of Lithium and Come As You Are a new twist and life.

Also in the studio, US duo Joy Williams and John Paul White - aka The Civil Wars - who met at a Nashville songwriter session and have recently supported Adele on her UK tour.

Joining Jools in the studio is a true rock and roll double act: rock legend Metallica have joined forces with Velvet Underground member and musical icon Lou Reed after performing together at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They perform tracks from the album they have made together, entitled Lulu, along with one or two Velvet Underground classics.

Also in the room is American singer-songwriter, political activist and author Steve Earle with songs from his new album I'll Never Get Out Of This World, which is named after a Hank Williams song. He is joined by his current band The Duke (and Duchesses) and wife Alison Moorer.

London-based group Various Cruelties make their TV debut with their infection motown-y love pop songs, and legendary disco and dance pioneer and member of Chic, Nile Rodgers, talks about his life and music.

New Orleans soul and R&B singer Aaron Neville joins Jools at the piano. Plus, more artists to be announced.
