- OOR
quote:For a couple of late-middle-aged men on their 12th album in nearly 30 years, the Pet Shop Boys sound like they are having a really good time. Pet Shop Boys are moving forwards, taking their retro synths into a brave new digital age. (5/5) - The Telegraph (UK)
quote:Affinities to the recent comeback from Daft Punk are obvious, but while the French duo sought inspiration from the Seventies and early Eighties, the Pet Shop Boys are moving forwards, taking their retro synths into a brave new digital age. Electric is the second really fantastic pop-dance blast of the year. - The Telegraph
quote:Electric sounds like a band reborn. Electric is not only Pet Shop Boys’ heartfelt valentine to electronic dance music but also a reclamation of their part in its history. That 30 years on they can release an album of such box fresh vibrancy that sounds by-turns vintage, contemporary and futuristic shows their lifelong passion for the genre has not faded. The first of a proposed trilogy, Electric finds a reenergised Pet Shop Boys’ still masterful in the dark art of crafting ‘smart-bomb’ dancefloor bangers. - Pop Matters
quote:Electric, their 12th album, finds this duo in often quite punishing form, reinvigorated, perhaps, by the end of their 28-year contract with Parlophone. They now have their own label. They make it sound like fun. (...) Electric makes a bold claim: that a certain strain of tuneful hedonism has no compulsory retirement age. - Guardian (UK)
- Written In Music
quote:An aggressively dance-oriented album of eight originals and one very interesting cover. This is an album to thump, not think, your way through. (...) Maybe the joyous noise is the sense of freedom, but however it was created, it's welcome. - Hit Fix
quote:Electric is the Pet Shop Boys album which, of all their releases in recent years, feels least like an 1980s act refining what they’ve always done well, and most like an entity in forward motion. - Independent (UK)
quote:Electric succeeds in playing like the four-on-the-floor manifesto it was intended by its creators to be. It does so with grand pop style, and so very relentlessly. - Idolator
quote:Electric is a fierce, energetic record that sees Tennant, Lowe and Price revisit their long-standing love of club culture, including rather unexpected forays into its brasher, Transatlantic version. 'Boys' done good. - The Quietus
quote:There are plenty of nods towards that aspirational, luxury sound here to suggest that album #12 is a dancey refinement of its predecessor rather than an apology for it. (...) The Boys are most definitely back in town - Digital Spy (UK)
quote:Instead, the twisted disco and warped pop that underpin everything great about ‘Electric’ are a clear sign that the duo is far from done. (...) By the time it shreds itself in the final minute, it’s hard to believe the duo had ever seemed a little tired. They’re reborn, revitalised, and really rather good. - Clash Music (UK)
quote:If Elysium was the reflective comedown, Electric is the flashback to the party which preceded. (...) A a streamlined club album, characterised by cascading synths and meaty beats but with pockets of the valued PSB idiosyncrasy. - Scotsman (UK)
Samenvatting van al het bovenstaande:quote:The veteran duo mine their glorious past and pump up the bangers to prove they’re still electro-pop masters. (...) More than anything, the Boys thrive as a pop band. It’s hard to imagine anything here dominating the charts like their ’80s output, but that doesn’t make ‘Electric’ any less tremendous. Huge. Tasteful. Funny. Touching. Direct. Clever. As an exercise is sounding totally, defiantly alive, it is a complete success. - NME (UK)
