De belangstelling voor FC Groningen-spits Marcus Berg zwelt aan. Naast AZ zit nu ook het Italiaanse SS Lazio achter de Zweeds international aan, weet Aftonbladet.

Berg, die een aanbod om zijn contract bij FC Groningen te verlengen naast zich neerlegde, is nog altijd in afwachting van een eerste bod van de Alkmaarders. Dat zal er pas komen wanneer één van de drie belangrijkste aanvallende pijlers van het elftal - Moussa Dembélé, Mounir El Hamdaoui of Ari - vertrekt uit Alkmaar.

Ondertussen heeft ook het Italiaanse SS Lazio de spits in de peiling. Mochten de Italianen zich officieel melden in Groningen, gaat voor de Zweedse aanvaller een jongensdroom in vervulling.

De club uit Rome heeft een speciaal plekje in het hart van de jonge Zweed. "Ik ben een fan van Lazio. Het is één van mijn favoriete clubs. Een overstap naar Lazio zou fantastisch zijn", tekende de krant op uit de mond van de spits.

SS Lazio zelf wil niet ingaan op de geruchten. Wel gaf de club te kennen Berg aan het werk gezien te hebben. "Wij hebben enkele dvd's van Berg bekeken. Ik wil noch bevestigen of tegenspreken of wij interesse hebben in hem", zegt technisch directeur Igli Tare.

- Marcus Berg worked well together with Pontus Wernbloom in Swedish U21 squad. Wernbloom physically strong in a way similar to Zlatan. They can receive streaming and closed against the defenders and give Marcus a little more space.
