Former Barcelona player and coach Johan Cruyff has condemned the lack of technique shown by Real Madrid this season, and said that their approach to matches should be more ‘enjoyable’.
Cruyff, who spent six seasons in Catalunya as a player in the 1970’s before returning to manage the side from 1988-1996, accepts that los Blancos coach Juande Ramos has had an impressive run of results, but has sacrificed attractive football in order to collect points.
According to reports from Marca, the 61-year old said, “What Real Madrid are doing at the moment shows great merit. The results are fantastic, but I think they have to show more because in addition to winning people should enjoy the match.
“They are still a team that is not too balanced and that cannot shine as it should.”
The Dutchman was speaking on a visit to Dexeus Hospital in Barcelona, where his granddaughter was born on Sunday, and also took time to discuss his former clubs battle to win three titles as the seasons end draws ever closer.
He added, “There was a lot of tension in the air last week against Recreativo. Games are more dangerous now, and if anyone is struggling to be motivated for the challenge ahead then they should not be involved in sport.”
Finally Cruyff added that Pep Guardiola, the man whom he endorsed for the Blaugrana hotseat last summer, has proven to be the right choice for the job.
He concluded, “I never had any doubts about Pep [Guardiola], but in any case, he has convinced us.”
