A Star is Bourne
At just 5'9", 185 pounds, very few people would have thought that Evan Bourne (formerly known as Matt Sydal) would ever become a WWE star.
His frame simply was just too small for WWE. Plus, he utilized an exciting, high flying style of wrestling that is usually frowned upon by WWE.
The best place for Evan Bourne to have been highlighted would have been in the WCW cruiserweight division.
Unfortunately, though, by the time Evan Bourne made his official debut, WCW was basically laying on its death bed.
Even with everything against him, though, Evan Bourne has managed to become a star in WWE.
The Initiative
WWE introduced a storyline where there was a "new superstars initiative" to allow the company to highlight a new wave of younger wrestlers.
Thus far, Evan Bourne has been the only one that has made much of an impact.
Of course, he had a bit more help from the creative department than the other guys did.
Instead of being thrown into a feud with Tommy Dreamer or wrestling random matches, Evan Bourne was thrown into a program with Rey Mysterio, who happens to be one of the most popular wrestlers in the entire industry.
Not only that, but Evan Bourne was also doing all of this on Monday Night Raw instead of the lesser watched ECW on Sci Fi.
Minor Setback
During last night's taping of ECW on Sci Fi, Evan Bourned suffered a minor setback.
Some ligaments in his ankle were torn during the six man tag team match.
The doctors have advised him to keep some weight off the ankle and rest up. They're also recommending that he take up to four months off from in-ring action.
However, Evan Bourne is said to be quite willing to work through the injury.
It's easy to understand the mentality from Evan Bourne because he's a young wrestler in the midst of a nice push.
He can't afford to lose any momentum from his match against Matt Hardy at Cyber Sunday.
While he didn't win the belt, it did provide him with quite a bit of credibility and momentum. Taking time off could kill that momentum.
Of course, it's also a smart move to stay healthy as well.
