A senior Iranian military commander says any aggression against his country over its nuclear program would lead to a new world war.
"The unlimited greed of the US officials and international Zionism, whose signs can be observed in Sudan, Iraq, Afghanistan and more recently in the Caucasus, pushes the world toward the edge of a precipice," Deputy Head of the Armed Forces Headquarters, Brigadier General Seyyed Masoud Jazayeri, said on Saturday.
Israeli officials, backed by the United States, have threatened to launch a military attack on Iran, if Tehran fails to meet Western demands to halt its program to enrich uranium. Both Israel and the US are possessors of nuclear weapons.
Iran, as a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), however, maintains that the country is entitled to pursue its nuclear program for peaceful purposes.
The Islamic Republic believes that renouncing its rights under the NPT would encourage world powers to put further pressure on the country and would not lead to a change in the West's hardline stance against Tehran.
Jazayeri added that in the case of any adventurism, 'fake and artificial regimes would be the first to be eliminated'.
He said that teachings of Islam and the principles of Islamic Revolution are based on promotion of global peace and run counter to warmongering and the threatening routines of the US and international Zionism.

geen idee, heb eerder vandaag een N6210 gekocht met radiofunctie, dus sinds vanmiddag luister ik radio. Denk dat het nog wel meevalt, aangezien ze hier in Z.O. Jordan warns against a possible Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, saying Tel Aviv is not capable of defeating Tehran.
"An attack against Iran would provoke reprisals and Israel doesn't have the capability to destroy Iran's nuclear sites", says the King of Jordan.
"Iranians assert that their nuclear program has no military nature and an American report, which was published recently, apparently recognizes their claim," said King Abdullah II in an interview with French magazine L'Express.
National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) said in September 2007 that Iran is not seeking nuclear weapons. Yet the Bush administration, ignoring the country's NIE's conclusion, claims that Iran's nuclear program poses a "threat" to Europe and the United States.
King Abdullah hinted at Iran's increasing power and influence in the Middle East and said, "What Tehran wants to tell us, I think, is that Iran is an important player in the region and that we should note it well".
The King of Jordan said his country hopes that there would be no military intervention against Iran as such a move would bear dire consequences for the whole region.
"All the countries in the region will pay the price for such a situation," he concluded.

Een verdrag die je niet ondertekend heb hoef je je ook niet aan te houden.
Iran heeft het wel ondertekend dus moet men zich er aan houden.

Iran heeft het non-proliferatieverdrag wel ondertekend en het houdt zich daar ook aan. Dat zegt het zelf en dat wordt niet bestreden door het IEAE en het NIE, die dat onderzocht hebben. Iran verbreekt dus geen enkel verdrag. En is dus vooralsnog (tot het tegendeel bewezen is) een betrouwbare verdragspartner.
