Google Earth is tof, Google Earth is de hele aarde in satellietfoto\'s. En daar is uiteraard een leuk spel van te maken.
De Spelregels
Maak een screenshot van een opvallende en/of bekende plek ergens op de wereld in Google Earth (of de webvariant ervan op Google Maps) en laat anderen raden wat er precies wordt getoond. Degene met het goede antwoord maakt een nieuwe opgave. Je mag zo ver inzoomen als je zelf wilt, maar hou het wel een beetje herkenbaar. Het is dus fair als je Noord boven laat op de foto.
De plaatser keurt de antwoorden goed of fout, niet naderhand je post editten!
We spelen in dit topic om punten. De punten worden na sluiting van het topic getelt en in de Wiki gezet.

Om het punten tellen een beetje hanteerbaar te houden, is het de bedoeling dat je in de post waarin je het punt geeft aan de winnaar ook de tussenstand en de locaties bijwerkt.

De laatste GE update was ook te zwaar voor de 512MB extern geheugen in mijn laptop, de boel liep helemaal vast. Ik heb het onlangs uitgebreid naar 1,5GB (kost je zo'n ca. 30 euro voor 1GB). Sindsdien loopt het weer als een zonnetje.

The chalk pit is still being dug from by Roerdal/Portland-cement Therefore the fine light blue color. All over this city the chalk is only a few centimeters or meters under the surface. The chalk is used for cement production in aalborg only for white cement anymore. There used to be 4 cement factories in Aalborg - one in each cormer. This is the south-eastern one.

There is a local story about how the Pepper Pot was built. In April 1313 the merchant ship St Marie of Bayonee, carrying wine from Tonnay in the Aquitaine region of France, ran aground on Atherfield Ledge in Chale Bay. All the sailors survived and the wine was salvaged by the local islanders. All 174 casks of wine had soon disappeared - the wealthier islanders in the area had gotten hold of most of them. One, Walter de Godeton, who lived in Chale Manor, managed to get the most, and soon had 53 of the casks.
The law, though, arrived on the island to try and sort the situation out and Walter de Godeton was caught, charged with illegally receiving the casks and was fined 227.5 marks, just under five marks per cask.
This, though, was not the end of the story. The owner of the wine was the monastery of Livers, in Picardy, France. To have taken their wine was sacrilege. Walter de Godeton was summoned to the ecclesiastical court in Rome and was hauled before the Pope. The Pope told Walter that he would be excommunicated from the church and his soul would be damned to burn in Hell for all eternity unless he atoned for his sin by building a lighthouse on top of Chale Down to prevent any more shipwrecks, with an oratory for a priest to pray for the souls of those at sea. This Walter de Godeton did, finishing the lighthouse by 1328.

Waar vind je deze tumulus?
The burial mound is the main location in Marathon about the Battle Of Marathon. This is where the only 192 athenians who died in the battle are buried. In comparison the persians lost 6,400 men.

komt dat hek op geen enkele foto tegen.
En ook de foto klopt kan ik je vertellen, ik ben er namelijk al 3x geweest...
En dat hek staat helemaal rondom de tumulus, alleen is het niet zo logisch om een foto ervan te nemen van buiten de archeologische site, vandaar dat je de meeste foto's zonder hek ziet, omdat die op het terrein echt zijn genomen.
Toevallig liep de Olympische Marathon van Athene hier ook een rondje omheen (leuk wat historisch besef) en ligt het dus in de vlakte van Marathon, waar een van de drie oorlogen tegen de Perzen grotendeels werd uitgevochten.
