Goals from Geoffrey Castillion and Ricardo van Rhijn gave the Netherlands victory against Scotland and a place in Tuesday's UEFA European Under-17 Championship semi-finals in Antalya.

Serbia denied
Facing a side who had lost their previous two Group A games and needed a three-goal win to have any chance of progress, the Netherlands dominated throughout and scored either side of half-time. Had Serbia beaten Turkey then the Dutch victory would have been in vain but the hosts held on for a 0-0 draw to win the group ahead of the Netherlands.

Mokthar cameo
While Scotland's likely exit prompted Ross Mathie into a reshuffle, the Netherlands went into the game on a high following their campaign-reviving 1-0 win against Serbia on Wednesday and started the brighter. Youness Mokthar was given his first start of the finals and his cross from the left was headed wide by Lorenzo Burnet while another on the other side just eluded Jerson Cabral's lunge. However, Mokthar then felt sick and on 27 minutes was replaced by Lorenzo Ebecilio.

Castillion strikes
Despite that disruption, with six minutes left in the half the Netherlands finally made their breakthrough after Tim Eekland played an incisive through-ball to Castillion. The AFC Ajax striker's profligacy in front of goal had frustrated coach Albert Stuivenberg during these finals but Castillion had put away a seemingly impossible finish to beat Serbia and presented with a more straightforward chance he calmly slipped the ball past Grant Adam.

Second goal
Mathie brought on regular starter Paul Slane at the break but within seven minutes the Netherlands had scored again. Van Rhijn played a quick one-two with Castillion and his angled shot, despite a touch from Adam, went inside the far post. Now the Netherlands could concern themselves with whether Serbia would turn their chances into goals against Turkey, but Scotland went close when David McAuliffe's shot was turned over by Jeroen Zoet. The Netherlands kept looking for a third, but 2-0 was good enough.
