MISSING Madeleine McCann's parents should face child neglect charges, according to our latest online poll.

We told yesterday how Portuguese police are considering charging Kate and Gerry McCann with child neglect.

Their daughter disappeared from the family's holiday apartment 13 months ago while they dined with friends more than 100 yards away.

Since being considered as suspects in the daughter's disappearance, the couple's relationship with the police has been a fractious one.

Now, if charged and found guilty of child neglect, they face spending up to 10 years in jail.

Parents McCann would be under a procedure for kidnapping, homicide, negligence and concealment of a corpse. This emerges from a decision of the Court of the Relation of Evora, published by the Times. That decision, signed on April 29 this year, also reveals that the Public Ministry has sought access to messages (SMS) exchanged between a dozen mobiles at the disappearance of Madeleine. Two of these mobiles belong to the couple McCann. The other would be those of 7 friends of tapas. A list of calls made on 03 May between 20:00 and 12:00 the next day would have been established and the location of calls.

A misunderstanding.

According to press reports, the demand for this list and copies of messages exchanged would have been rejected by the judge for the second time.
