As we have been predicting for a while now WWE development territory Ohio Valley Wrestling has been dropped from the WWE banner. In a meeting with contracted developmental talent today Ty Bailey and John Laurinaitis announced that the roster will be moved over to FCW and all future development will take place under the one roof in Florida. Wrestlers were also reportedly told that nobody will be released during the move. WWE have been moving OVW talent to FCW for a number of months now and the morale over there has been low for a long time.

FUNAKI, die man is geniaal, als ik zijn opkomst lied hoor moet ik altijd al juichen.

Het valt me op dat ik me de laatste tijd nauwelijks voor Smackdown kan interesseren, ben een paar maanden eruit geweest omdat ik geen internet had, sindsdien heb ik RAW weer makkelijk opgepakt maar Smackdown wil echt niet lukken. Net weer geprobeerd maar ik ga even snel langs de matches en ben er weer klaar mee.

Het zal wel aan mij liggen maar bij SD heb ik een herhalingsgevoel, alsof telkens hetzelfde trucje uitgehaald word.

Same bij smackdown, RAW zet ik meteen aan als ik hem binnen heb, smackdown meestal als ik net even thuiskom van werken op zaterdag, niet meteen dus.

Zelfde ook bij TNA.

2 women's matches welke mij alle 2 kut lijken, ook niet echt spannend. En voor de rest vind ik alles zo slecht opgebouwd, zelfs in de laatste impact krijg je nog even tussendoor een announcement voor een nieuwe match, en je ziet maar 1 keer de full card.

Bij de WWE krijg je die al 3 weken van te voren te zien.

Wel relaxed, eerst Against all Ods, en die week erop No Way Out

Women's matches zijn idd goed, maar nu al een monster voor de titel? Moet het nog afwachten, morgen zie ik het wel.

En de street fight match waarvan je weet wie er gaat winnen is natuurlijk ook wel jammer, maar het zal wel een toffe match worden.

En ik denk ook niet dat Angle zijn title gaat verliezen....

uhm ik kijk geen TNA behalve af en toe de stukjes op youtube maar ik kwam dit tegen op een ander forum en klopt dit allemaal? want als dat zo is dan....*zucht* alleen om het zo te lezen al is niet echt logisch

If that is the case they aren't actaully related at all and Mitchel would have to be married to Masias's Mom. If Mitchel is father to them both they would be half brothers not step brothers.
- At least next week we have a bunch of comedy diet skits with Team 3D to look forward to. Maybe they can book Richard Simmons and he can draw on PPV.

Als je de build niet echt hebt gevolgd is er voor mij meestal maar weinig aan. De main event was zonder de storylines ook gewoon zeer sterk

klopt klopt.. maar het ligt er ook puur aan op welke manier je naar een PPV kijkt.. kijk je gewoon om een paar leuke uurtjes te hebben of ga je echt kritisch in op build-ups en kijk je wat de matches voor de feuds doen enzo..

wat dat 2e betreft valt TNA de laatste weken beetje tegen vind ik

Naar het schijnt zijn wrestling fans over het algemeen niet zo snugger maar als je serieus gelooft dat fans denken dat er ruimte is voor 200 man backstage en erger nog dat ze per fan de geluidssterkte of whatever kunnen meten ben je echt dom..

lijkt me dus een BS verhaal.. maja zolang het anti TNA is, is het natuurlijk de moeite waard om te posten

- WWE and Bobby Lashley officially parted ways on February 4th. WWE tried to retain Lashley as there were several strong attempts made to satisfy him. However, an agreement was never reached. For those wondering, Lashley made over $1 million last year with WWE.

- Chris Jericho has not yet signed the deal for a sequel to his "A Lion's Tale" autobiography. The offer is still on the table as the sequel will likely pick up where the last book left off (from 1999 to today).

- As of the time of this writing, WWE has sold 57,000 tickets for WrestleMania XXIV.

- I received an email from a friend of Stephanie McMahon that told me that the photos circulating around the Internet of Stephanie pregnant are from her first pregnancy. While there is a rumor that Stephanie is pregnant again, it has not been confirmed by a reputable source. Stephanie is said to be going through a hard time right now with the loss Triple H's brother-in-law.

- Expect WWE’s stock to go up today as their Fourth Quarter earnings were released this morning and were up over 23% from the third quarter. WWE also stated in a press release to reveal the earnings that the company set a record for a full year’s revenue with $485 million. WWE will hold a conference call with investors later this morning with Linda McMahon to announce the numbers.

- Rhino has been gone from TNA Wrestling since he no-showed their Turning Point pay-per-view back in December. According to those close him, Rhino has been out with dealing with neck problems and some family issues. Now that he is back the storyline that they are going with is that he has been away due to problems stemming from a relapse of alcoholism that were caused from his program with James Storm. Rhino is now out to “seek revenge” on Storm.

- Mike Adamle is not working exclusively for WWE. Adamle is still a reporter for the NBC affiliate WMAQ NBC 5 out of Chicago, Illinois.

- Last week’s edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown ended up doing a 2.6 broadcast rating according to Dave Scherer of the Professional Wrestling Insider.

WWE® Reports 2007 Fourth Quarter Results

STAMFORD, Conn., February 12, 2008 - World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE:WWE) today announced financial results for its fourth quarter ended December 31, 2007. Revenues totaled $132.6 million as compared to $107.6 million in the prior year quarter while operating income was $24.7 million as compared to $17.5 million in the prior year quarter. Net income was $21.5 million, or $0.30 per share, as compared to $15.5 million, or $0.22 per share, in the prior year quarter.

Earlier today WWE released their financial results for the final quarter of 2007. WWE Chief Executive Officer Linda McMahon hosted a conference call to the media along with Chief Operating Officer Michael Sileck and Chief Financial Officer Frank Serpe.

Here is a recap of the conference call:

- 4th Quarter Overview: Linda McMahon read a prepared statement touting WWE's successful fourth quarter. She praised their international expansion in the quarter, specifically mentioning the UK and Australian tours and their opening of several overseas offices. Linda talked about how the groundwork for their move to HD was done in the fourth quarter, and that they switched to HD in January.

- Concerning Smackdown: Linda said that the CW Network and WWE have agreed to part ways, and that WWE was contacted by other networks once CW's exclusive negotiation period had expired. She noted that Smackdown will finish this season on the CW, and that they were certain it would have a new network home.

- Fewer PPVs:Merchandise: Frank Serpe praised the success of the Shawn Michaels and John Cena DVD releases. He also noted the huge growth in overseas sales of action figures and T-shirts. WWE Magazine is currently producing 300,000 copies per issue.

A Q&A session was then held. Here are the highlights:

- Recession Fears: Concerning the impending recession and lack of discretionary spending, Linda noted that the company has "weathered these storms" before, and that while no company is "recession proof" they are confident they will be fine.

- The CW Dropping SmackDown:: When asked why CW is walking away from Smackdown, Linda said "I really don't know". She said she couldn't speak for them, and that they didn't go into their reasons for not picking up the option on the show. When asked if it was a financial decision, she said CW would have to answer that. She again reiterated that they have been contacted by other networks who want the show.

- More on SmackDown: WWE is hopeful to get a higher fee for Smackdown from a new broadcast network, and Linda said early stages of negotiations are pointing in that direction. She said they will see how it "pans out" but they are optimistic. When asked about streaming Smackdown on WWE.com, Sileck stated that they are concentrating on getting a new broadcast home for it. He said perhaps in the future there will be a WWE.com exclusive from that brand, but right now they are working on keeping it as a broadcast show.

- PPV Buys: It was emphasized that WWE has "turned a corner" when it comes to Pay-Per-View buys, noting good early results for the Royal Rumble, and that WWE is working to make each PPV more unique from each other.

- HD Costs: As previously reported, WWE spent $20 million to transition to High Definition. $10 million came from this past quarter, and $10 million is coming from the current quarter.

- International PPVs: Linda noted that in many markets, PPV events were paid for by a television distributor and shown as "specials" for years and now they are in a transition period where fans are now being asked to pay for what they used to see for "free".

- Regarding WWE Films: They are focusing on direct-to-DVD projects, of which they have several in the works. They noted one of the projects is a "co-finance" deal with the studio that is producing it. They are currently working on one theatrical project, however there will be no releases from WWE Films in 2008. All work at this time is being done for 2009 releases. They stated the direct-to-video projects have a $4-5 million cost, while the theatrical project has a $20 million cost.

- The JAKKS-THQ lawsuit: Linda simply said that it continues "slowly".

- We've been covering the story about the recent release of longtime WWE creative team member Dave Lagana. Lagana was fired on January 25th, while he was on vacation. He had been writing ECW television since Paul Heyman's departure. A one-sentence email was sent to WWE employees informing them of Lagana's release. When previous creative team members have been let go, WWE has thanked them for their service, acknowledged their contributions and wished them well. There was nothing of the sort for Lagana and the company email was said to be "cold". While there were rumors that Lagana's release was a result of him leaking news to the wrestling news media, sources close to the situation have stated that his release was not because of news leaking but actually regarding Lagana's behavior. While the sources were not willing to elaborate further, Lagana has been on thin ice for quite some time with a number of people. Several wrestlers have complained about Lagana's behavior. Recently the Undertaker received a complaint from a wrestler about Lagana and this time, the company took action. Dave Lagana is said to be devastated about his release. He loved working for WWE and was really counting on longterm job security there. He admired Howard Finkle's position as somebody who was a loyal company man with a "job for life".

- Candice Michelle is back on the road with WWE’s RAW brand, however, she has still not returned to the ring from her shoulder injury. Candice has been coming out during shows and shooting t-shirts into the crowd. Candice has been out of action since October 22nd with a broken clavicle.

- Triple H is back on the road with WWE following the death of his brother-in-law. We are able to confirm that he worked yesterday and today in Tokyo, Japan. The Game worked with Shawn Michaels to defeat William Regal and Umaga at yesterday’s show at Differ Ariake and defeated Umaga in a no disqualification bout at today’s show at Budokan Hall.

- With the conclusion of today’s show in Tokyo, WWE has completed their run in Japan and will be heading back to the States for a show in Fresno, California on 2/15 and at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California on 2/16 before this Sunday’s No Way Out pay-per-view.

-- The hit NBC show "American Gladiators" has scheduled meetings with pro wrestlers Matt Morgan and Chris "Masters" Modetzsky about becoming potential gladiators for next season. Female MMA star Erin Toughill will also be meeting with Gladiator producers.

-- An upcomign episode of the MTV show "Made" will center around Chris Hendricks, a 14-year old with the dream to become a pro wrestler. MTV was taping at an indy show in Belleville, Michigan on January 30th. Hendricks will be shown training and in his first match - he wrestled as a babyface, teaming with Alex Shelly & Chris Sabin against N8 Mattson, Petey Williams & Tyson Dix.

BENOIT MURDER CASE CLOSED

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office in Georgia says it has closed its investigation of the killings at pro wrestler Chris Benoit’s home last June. The department says that investigators stand by the initial conclusion that the Canadian-born Benoit killed his wife and seven-year-old son and then himself in their suburban Atlanta home. A statement issued by the Sheriff’s office today said there is no evidence that anyone else was involved. Authorities have said Benoit, 40, strangled his wife with a cord and used a choke hold to strangle his son. He then hanged himself on a piece of exercise equipment the weekend of June 22, 2007, in their Fayetteville home. Benoit, who was born in Montreal and grew up in Edmonton, became WWE's world champion in 2004. He began his career in 1985 training with the Hart family in Calgary and competed professionally for the western Canadian-based Stampede Wrestling. A medical examiner was unable to say if steroids played a role in the killings, though suspicions linking steroid use to the killings have lingered. Anabolic steroids were found in Benoit’s home and tests showed Benoit had roughly 10 times the normal level of testosterone in his system. Benoit’s personal doctor, Phil Astin, faces federal charges of improperly prescribing medication to two patients other than Benoit. More charges are expected. Authorities have said Astin prescribed a 10-month supply of anabolic steroids to Benoit every three to four weeks for a year leading up to the killings.

-- The taped edition of WWE RAW last night scored a 3.39 cable rating. The show did hourly numbers of 3.36 and 3.42 and averaged just under 5 million viewers for the night.

Ik vind dat liedje van de RHCP ook niet zo bij WM passen, en vooral niet bij de WWE, past natuurlijk wel bij de setting waar het is, maar zie bijvoorbeeld vorig jaar met Ladies and Gentleman , geweldig liedje was dat.

- TNA should be announcing the location of their April PPV "Lockdown" very soon. The front-runner is said to be Chicago at this point.

- TNA's May PPV Sacrifice is likely to be held in Orlando, FL but those plans could change.

- TNA is lookng into holding a PPV in the South West Ohio area later this year.

- Despite the fact that there has been talk of TNA toning down the humor on their programming, there are no plans to end the new Shark Boy gimmick or Curry Man gimmick anytime soon. The people within TNA are happy with the two humorous gimmicks and feel that they should be fully utilized.

- Mike Johnson of the Professional Wrestling Insider is reporting that Tranesha Briggers (the new Knockout that has aligned herself as Scott Steiner’s valet) will work under the name Rocka Chan.

- TNA's new slogan "Cross the Line" refers to the fact that TNA doesn't feature clear cut faces and heels. This has always been the foundation of Vince Russo's booking philosophy, as he feels there are no true good and evil people in this world.

- Kurt and Karen Angle have alot of booking freedom over their own segments and angles. According to one source, if the Angles have nd idea, 9 times out of 10 it will be used even if it is thought to be a bad idea.

- As previously mentioned Vince Russo has been booking most of what is seen on iMPACT!. According to numerous sources Jeff Jarrett comes up with the feuds and matches he wants and then gives Vince the task of setting up the angles and storylines around them.

- The match agents ("producers") in TNA currently include Glen Gilberti (Disco Inferno), Scott D'amore, D'Lo Brown and Pat Kenney (Simon Diamond) while one of the members of Phi Delta Slam is currently working the gorilla position.

- Most of the Abyss/Mitchell/Mesias storyline was booked by Mantell with ideas from Abyss.

- Brother Ray booked alot of Team 3D and Devine's feud with Machismo and The Motorcity Machine Guns.

By the time most of you read this, Sunday's latest generic TNA PPV will have concluded. I thought it would be interesting today to look back at their February PPV last year and see how much things have changed, or not changed, in this company.

The first thing of note is that prior to starting this column I was not entirely sure what the name of this PPV was. My guess was "Against All Odds". A quick glance at the TNA website confirmed that this was correct. This is actually a positive for TNA, because last year despite all their hype my headline story in Figure Four Weekly reviewing the show read: "A TNA PPV airs".

Let's look at the planned line-up for this year's show before heading back in time. Scheduled to take place at press time is Kurt Angle vs. Christian for the TNA Title with Samoa Joe, who is in the middle of intense contract renegotiations in storyline, as special referee; Awesome Kong vs. ODB for the TNA Women's Title; Motor City Machine Guns & Jay Lethal vs. Team 3-D & Johnny Devine in a match where if the heels win the X-Division is no more, and if the babyfaces win then Team 3-D cannot wrestle in TNA unless they weigh under 275 pounds. It took weeks for this stipulation to be made clear, and even the wrestlers and announcers were confused at one point; Abyss vs. Judas Mesias in Barbed Wire Massacre II, which they booked before confirming that such a match would be allowed in South Carolina, and because it's not they had to pre-tape it in Orlando and pretend that it was taking place live; AJ Styles & Tomko, who hate each other, vs. BG James & Bullet Bob Armstrong for the Tag Titles; Robert Roode vs. Booker T; Scott Steiner vs. Petey Williams with both an X-Title and World Title shot on the line; James Storm vs. Eric Young in a wrestling match to determine who is the Drinking Champion of TNA (don't ask); and Traci Brooks vs. Peyton Banks, which after all the months of Traci vs. Robert Roode had the most nearly non-existent build of anything you ever saw.

THAT IS THIS YEAR. But what about 2007?

The first thing I note upon looking back is that apparently many fans called this the worst TNA PPV of all time. Even I, who has been driven crazy by this promotion, did not see it as such, noting at the time that there was at least some good wrestling on the show. That's the thing with TNA, as bad as the booking and such can be you still are usually guaranteed some good wrestling on the PPVs, and I've been told the house shows are actually the absolute best of the promotion. Unfortunately, nobody attends those.

One of the main storylines on the show was that Scott Steiner had joined the Christian Coalition (do you remember any of this?) and he was already having problems with Tomko. So yes, a full year ago we still had the issue of everyone on the show hating each other.

One of the problems with TNA is that they assume fans know everything. In the opener, LAX vs. Team 3-D in a Little Italy Streetfight, random Mexicans hit the ring near the finish and we were told, as if the entire world should know, that these were members of the "Latino Nation". This was news to me and everyone else, but life just moved on. Despite all the run-ins, LAX still beat Team 3-D clean with a border toss. So there were run-ins for the sake of having run-ins. Saw the same thing on Impact this week.

Austin Starr beat Senshi in a surprisingly average match. "This was like taking Senshi and Austin Starr out of ROH and asking them to do a TV match for WWE Heat," I wrote at the time. At least they got to wrestle, even if it was watered down. That is a plus. The bad news is that they started an angle with Starr and Bob Backlund afterwards, and Bob was dragging him out of the building when suddenly it was TO THE BACK~! for a segment with Christian, Steiner and Tomko all yelling at each other. The more things change…

We get bad comedy in TNA today but it has been worse, such as in the Christy vs. Fat Oily Guy match that went on third, which involved the fat oily guy getting naked and the hot girl keeping all her clothes on.

Lance Hoyt with David Eckstein faced Dale Torborg with AJ Pierzynski. This had been built up strong on TV, so strong that when it started the fans chanted "BASEBALL SUCKS!" It was one of TNA's many attempts to get very localized Nashville-centric sports or entertainment stars and hope that the rest of the country cares at all. They never do. Match was horrible to boot.

Throughout the show they had a bunch of storylines where Traci was trying to seduce Eric Young, and each ended with "TO BE CONTINUED" appearing on the screen, much like each episode of Impact these days is considered such art that it must be given a fancy title after the opening video package.

AJ Styles and Rhino had a good match, the best on the show so far, with the chain stipulation. This was back when TNA had this habit of taking guys who could have great matches and then add some sort of gimmick or stipulation so that they would have to FIGHT to have a good match. In fact, that was the gimmick here, that AJ had to get a key and unlock himself so that he'd be able to do high-flying. In 2007, AJ was booked as a great wrestler. In 2008, he's largely a clown. Advantage: 2007.

Chris Sabin beat Jerry Lynn in another good match. I can never call a PPV the worst of all time if we at least get some good wrestling.

James Storm & Jacqueline beat Petey Williams & Gail Kim in a fine match that played into the ongoing Storm vs. Petey storyline from that period. It is interesting that at this point last year, Petey was being pushed as a serious wrestler, a fellow who, Mike Tenay said, had grown into a man right before our eyes. Now he's a comedy figure. There seems to be a trend here.

The wacky Abyss match last year was a PRISON YARD MATCH with Sting that also had something to do with the whole "WHO IS ABYSS' FATHER?" storyline. So yes, this storyline has been ongoing for an entire YEAR and still no one cares.

So the main event this year was Angle vs. Christian for the title with Joe as special referee. And what was the main event in 2007? Why, Angle vs. Christian for the title with Joe as the special ringside enforcer! It was every TNA finish we've ever seen with ref bumps, interference, dudes running in, etc., and after Christian won following an utter schmozz Don West screamed, and I quote: “THIS IS A BUNCH OF CRAP! THIS JUST SUCKS! THIS JUST SUCKS!”

One year ago at this time, with one hour of Impact per week as opposed to two, TNA broke their viewership record, doing a 1.12 rating and 1.6 million viewers. This week, now with an EXTRA HOUR~! of prime time first-run television, they did a 1.11 rating and 1.6 million viewers. A look back shows that, for the most part, nothing has changed, and it's further proof that if you don't change anything you shouldn't expect things to be any different. I should note that there is one big change from last year, though, and that is that buyrate numbers are lower. There is a message here.

Ook grappig om te zien dat WWE.com niet eens weet wie Japanse worstelaars zijn . Die 2 waar Flair en Hardy mee op de foto zijn worden fans genoemd maar zijn in de realiteit beter dan 95% vh Roster wat de WWE heeft

Gaat er trouwens nog iemand naar een van de TNA houseshows hier? De Coventry show is in een 3.500 venue, dus dat kan leuk worden. Zal waarschijnlijk ook niet zo duur zijn als een WWE Raw / Smackdown taping, en het hier een uurtje vandaan met de trein.
