Acme (from Bremen, Germany) were among the most influential Hardcore bands of the 1990's. Edison released their CD "to reduce the choir to one soloist" in 1996, but the recordings date back to 1993/1994, these nine tracks comprise the entirety of Acme's recorded career (one 7", three compilation tracks, one demo).

Presumably the band take their musical cues from early 90's Hardcore bands such as Born Against and 'Protestant'-era Rorschach, but this is occluded so thoroughly by a dense (funeral) fog of extreme metal, sludge and grind that their original Hardcore influences are difficult to pinpoint. The result is one of Acme successfully straddling all of their influences without ripping them off, and unlike some of their imitators, they don't resort to blast-beat extremity by excess.

The influence and importance of these recordings has become impossible to ignore in the wake of the metallic hardcore and 'screamo' explosions that followed. Converge, Orchid, Morser, Caliban, Shikari, Breach...the list is expansive and far transcends the infamous 'Bremen scene'. Do not let these names fool you though. The originators were the masters, and for people who like genuinely intense, dark, challenging, extreme music of any form - this record is impossible to fault.

A stripped down members of Estradasphere starving/backpacking/musical debauchery tour with Timb Harris (violin/trumpet/guitar), Jason Schimmel (guitar,vocals), and Tim Smolens (bass,vocals) will be happening from November 22nd through December 9th. Timb and Jason are playing at the John Zorn Masada festival in Milan, Italy on Nov. 23rd where they will be performing with both Secret Chiefs 3 and Zorn's Cobra. To coincide with this festival we have decided to fly Tim out and book a mini europe tour for the 16 days following the Masada festival. We currently have 2 gigs confirmed. One is on the 30th in Rotterdam, Netherlands and the other is on the 4th in Madrid, Spain. The rest of the dates are open as of right now. We need help from anyone who is willing and able. We want to play as many gigs as possible. So anyone who has any connections with getting gigs in western europe please help us. We would love to play in Italy, Portugal, Spain, France, Holland, Denmark, U.K, and possibly even Germany if we can get over there. But feel free to give us any opportunities in countries that I have not mentioned as well. Plus we are very limited as far as resources go. So if anyone can give a place to stay for a couple nights that would be incredible. We are also traveling with one extra person so that makes the total four. We are hoping to stay in each city for two days so we are open to playing gypsy gigs in coffee shops and street corners so let us know if you have anything. Also since we are traveling so light if anyone can lend us an Upright bass for any amount of time that would be great. Tim can only bring an electric but would love to play upright if can get one. Jason will be bringing two guitars but if anyone has an extra guitar amp he would love to have one if possible. Please email us as soon as possible if you have any information that could help us make this tour more awesome.

Saturnus Reality (2007) is the Finnegan’s Wake of Finnish rock documentaries, and a fabulous cul-de-sac in a stream of consciousness. The film’s subject is Circle, the prolific Finnish experimentalists hailing from Pori, but it is a self-ironic vicious circle of a film that focuses on the curious world of the band and its musicians, shot on a home video camera. Jussi Lehtisalo, Mika Rättö, Janne Westerlund, Tomi Leppänen and Tuomas Laurila appear in the film as if they were acting out themselves.

The film is nominally centred on the recording sessions of Miljard, one of the latest albums by this extremely productive band, whose output includes 28 albums in 16 years. Starting out as a traditional rock documentary, the film soon runs loose on various sidetracks: to the depths of a forest, onto a frozen lake, into the darkness of night. The band’s primeval music becomes the soundtrack for magic rites performed in nature. The musicians meet the mysterious Oracle of the Reed Sea, a strange meteorite has landed in a snowy landscape, and so forth. What matters in Circle’s fantastic world is totality of vision, while details are treated somewhat generously. The new genre the band has coined, NWOFHM (The New Wave of Finnish Heavy Metal), may just as well mean fragile atonal piano improvisation or catatonic one-note walls of sound. Inspired by the ritualistic films of Stan Brakhage and Kenneth Anger, the film moves to the beat of double and triple exposures, the atmosphere balancing in the timeless opening between childish horseplay and reckless pathos. David Tibet comments: "I am proud and delighted to confirm that I have been invited by the wonderful Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Holland to curate a special day-long event. Current 93 will be performing, as well as some special guests that I have invited to accompany us. I can confirm that the majestic OM will be appearing, and that I am presently discussing the appearance of 2 or 3 more of my favourite artists. Roadburn is perhaps the pre-eminent festival of doom, stoner, psychedelacidic and othercoloured metal, and I am very touched and happy to have been invited by Roadburn to bring some of those artists whom I love to a festival whose work I have long admired."

Founded in 1982 by David Tibet, Current 93 has created a highly personal musical and æsthetic entity over 23 years, subliminal and dramatic, an opulent and complex music made of psychedelic Coptic jazz, distorted folk memories, apocalyptic ballads, gothic chorals, nursery rhymes and Roman electronics.


Tibet's musical influences are wildly diverse, ranging from psychedelic rock bands from Ramases to Patripassian, from Gregorian Chant to Sahidic Threnodies.


Current 93's sound varies, according to Tibet's choice of collaborators, but it has oscillated between apocalyptic tape loops, minimal piano-and-voice settings, electronic hymns, massed drone attacks and children singing at the end of the world, whilst always featuring Tibet's own idiosyncratic singing and guitar playing. David Tibet has worked with Steven Stapleton (Nurse With Wound), Antony and the Johnsons, Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Marc Almond, folk goddess Shirley Collins, Stephen O'Malley [Sunn o))) ], Attila Csihar [Mayhem], Andrew W.K., horror writer Thomas Ligotti, Nick Cave and Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance) and many others artists.

OM, comprised of Al Cisneros and Chris Hakius, the former rhythm section of stoner-legends Sleep, combine minimalist vocal mantras with propulsive drumming and vibrating bass to channel mind-expanding paeans of spiritual awakening.

Een beetje? Kyuss zijn zo ongeveer de grondleggers van het genre. Check dingen als Hermano, Brant Bjork, Acid Kings, Truckdriver, Fu Manchu, Monster Magnet, Electric Wizard, Colour Haze, Biblical Proof of UFOs etc. maar eens uit.
