De burgemeester (Democraat) wordt ook een held genoemd voor het oproepen tot een evacuatie waar hij geen middelen voor geeft, de gouverneur (ook Democraat, en verantwoordelijk voor de meeste rampenhulp) wordt niet eens genoemt. Alle kritiek gaat rechtstreeks naar de Republikein Bush en zijn federale overheid.

Whahaha...de rassenstrijd in de VS is kinderspel vergeleken bij de ellende die Europa te wachten staat. Wel eens in grote Europese steden rondgekeken? Niet voor niets menen de meeste economen/sociologen dat integratie in de VS veel succesvoller is dan in Europa. Er waren hoop linkse "intellectuele" vodjes die 12 jaar geleden na de rellen in LA voorspelden dat de VS binnen een jaar door een burgeroorlog verscheurd zouden worden. Integendeel. Amerikanen voelen zich meer "Amerikaan" dan welke Europeaan dan ook zich ooit "Europeaan" zal noemen.
De leidersrol van India en China zal nog wel even op zich laten wachten. En als de welvaart daar blijft groeien zullen zij met dezelfde problemen te kampen krijgen als het westen, alleen dan zonder structuren en ervaring om die problemen op te vangen. Over de etnische problemen van China en India zullen we het maar helemaal niet hebben...

Tweede dijk New Orleans breekt; olieproductie ligt stil

Een tweede dijk is vrijdag doorgebroken, waardoor een wijk van New Orleans onder water loopt. Het gaat om een dijk aan het Industrial Canal. In de wijk ten westen van de breuk staat het water al 60 cm hoog.

Eerder op de dag brak aan hetzelfde kanaal, maar aan de andere kant, al een dijk door waardoor de wijk Lower Ninth Ward onder water kwam te staan.

Olie
De productie van ruwe petroleum in de Golf van Mexico is vrijdag voor 99 procent stilgevallen, en die van aardgas voor 72 procent, als gevolg van de evacuatie van de door de cycloon Rita bedreigde industriële installaties, zo is door de federale Minerals Management Service meegedeeld.

Normaal wordt er in de Golf van Mexico per dag circa 1,5 miljoen vaten ruwe olie geproduceerd.

Nou ondanks de tegenslagen die de Bildeburgers hebben geleden zal de kern nog steeds verzekerd zijn van de macht en expertise om korte metten te maken met de lange termijn dominantie van Amerika.
Chiraq telt dan misschien (letterlijk) z'n laaste dagen , en Schreuder.... Pfff die is ge"Merkelt" die is uitgetelt tenzij Angela ineens besluit dat het aanrecht roept.

Uhm omdat enkele rijke sultans in de jaren 70 vonden dat die rijke westerse honden wel is wat arme onderdanen mochten opnemen in hun rijke westerse samenlevingen hebben wij de afgelopen 30+ jaar redelijk betaalbare olie gehad.
Helaas omdat we vergaten dat wij als westerse gemeenschap met christelijke roots , enige beschaving voor deze overwegend moslim geloof aanhangende mede"burgers" (geloofsinfiltranten) dienen op te brengen tja oeps vergeten.

Amerika heeft echter de Afro Amerikaanse mensen altijd als slaven behandeld en ergens hebben deze mensen danook nog steeds de neiging om zich minimaal te verzetten.
Vergeet aub niet niet alle slaven hadden het erg slecht.
Juist de strategie van genoeg te eten, een schoon bed, en zelfs zakgeld maakte dat veel slaven zelfs meevochten tegen het noorden. (zoals ook "vrije" slaven met het noorden tegen het zuiden vocht, als "dank" voor hun gewonnen vrijheid.)
Kortom wat in amerika zodadelijk klapt is een opbouw van enige eeuwen.
Waarintegen de moslims afgelopen eeuwen slechts zéér weinigen van hun leden konden tellen in het streng Christelijke west europa.
Nogmaals zelfs Ata Turk had enig respect voor de westerse "beschaving".
Haal daarom niet te snel het een en ander door elkaar heen.
Tevens is amerika een meltingpot van vele culturen, overwegend blank doch allen onder het Christelijk geloof.
Europa is geinfiltreerd door een oosters geloof wat zich opdwingt en zich niet laat verenigen met welk westerse (Christelijke) ingeving danook.
Waar jij danook de Rodney King redenering vandaan haalt is mij vreemd.
Er zijn ná Rodney King nog tig voorbeelden geweest waar géén rellen bij zijn uitgebroken.
Alleen in Amerika worden er geen eenzelfde types als Theo van Gogh vermoord om uiting van ongelovige mening (hoe beledigend dan ook).

Misschien doch ik betwijfel dat China lang op zich laat wachten.
Het land heeft immers een (verborgen) agenda (denk aan Taiwan en ook de maan) en daar worden kosten noch moeiten voor gespaard en het benodigde geld krijgt het land steeds sneller en in grotere hoeveelheden door de stijgende inkomsten uit haar monsterlijke export.
En tevens met geld "koopt" men in china (vaak) vakkundige hardwerkende (soms corrupte) mensen die graag het westen een poepie willen laten ruiken.
Ja zelfs japan word beschouwd als toekomstig "ruikend" slachtoffer.
En wetende dat "ze" met circa 1.8/2 miljard medeburgers zitten geeft dit overwegend goddelozen land enige nationale trots c.q wereld domineerde inspiratie die dient voor geestelijke houvast.
Tevens is de toenemende inkomsten stijging voor veel chinezen een (verborgen) motivator om zich in toenemende mate onbehoorlijk "westers" te gedragen door onvervalste "bijkomende" politieke ambities ten toon te stellen..
En structuren en ervaring zijn voor Chinezen geen obstakels, dit trotse volk stapt daar met weinig ongemak overheen.
In tegenstelling tot hier in het Westen word er in China korte metten gemaakt met "extremisten".
Niet dat ik het goedkeur maar het geeft wel te denken over hoe Chinezen omgaan met "anders" denkenden.
Etnische problemen kortom in India en China zijn pinuts in vergelijking met de spanningen die hier in het westen zijn onstaan door de infiltrering door Islamitische geloofsfanatici welk van (on)gelovige westerlingen niks ophebben. En niet minder dan lomp menen te beweren dat europa aan allah toebehoort endus Europa eigenlijk arabisch behoort te zijn (aldus Iraanse mullah's)
Nogmaals dit zijn problemen welk in China zeker niet en in India in mindere mate aan de orde zijn.
Want op wie hebben die mensen zoals Osama en Sarkawi het gemunt ?
Westerse honden was het toch ? Heb niks gehoord over Indiaase of uit China afkomstige honden.
Van wat ik heb begrepen word Ghandi zelf meer gewaardeerd in de arabische wereld dan Jezus omdat deze laaste vooral door westerlingen op handen gedragen word. -is de oosterse perceptie- (Teminste door mij dan in ieder geval.) Jezus Rules daarniet van.

Nou kijk ik amper tv doch ik krijg het vermoeden dat jij vooral via de schotel tv kijkt endus van nog Nova noch Talpa kaas hebt gegeten.
Hoe je er verder op reageert laat mij koud ik blijf erbij wat ik zeg.
Dat ik hiermee voor jou geraaskal produceer moet jij weten.
Ik heb alleen wel in de gaten dat er een hoop mensen zijn die ineens boos richting het westen beginnen te macheren wanneer blijkt dat Police Amerika ineen gestort is en geen tijd heeft om arm europa de hand boven het hoofd te houden.

Nu er wat meer duidelijkheid is over de gebeurtenissen in New Orleans blijft er van de hysterische massa-moord/plunder/verkracht verhalen niet veel over. In de statistieken is er in de week na Katrina niet eens meer gemoord dan een normale week in N.O.

Following days of internationally reported murders, rapes and gang violence inside the stadium, the doctor from FEMA — Beron doesn't remember his name — came prepared for a grisly scene: He brought a refrigerated 18-wheeler and three doctors to process bodies.

"I've got a report of 200 bodies in the Dome," Beron recalled the doctor saying.

The real total?

Six, Beron said.

Of those, four died of natural causes, one overdosed and another jumped to his death in an apparent suicide, said Beron, who personally oversaw the handoff of bodies from a Dome freezer, where they lay atop melting bags of ice.

State health department officials in charge of body recovery put the official death count at the Dome at 10, but Beron said the other four bodies were found in the street near the Dome, not inside it. Both sources said no one had been murdered inside the stadium.

At the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, just four bodies have been recovered, despite reports of heaps of dead piled inside the building. Only one of the dead appeared to have been murdered, said health and law-enforcement officials.

That the nation's frontline emergency-management officials believed the body count would resemble that of a bloody battle in a war is but one of scores of examples of myths about the Dome and the Convention Center treated as fact by evacuees, the news media and even some of the city's top officials, including the mayor and police superintendent.

The vast majority of reported atrocities committed by evacuees — mass murders, rapes and beatings — have turned out to be false, or at least unsupported by any evidence, according to key military, law-enforcement, medical and civilian officials in positions to know.

"I think 99 percent of it is [expletive]," said Sgt. 1st Class Jason Lachney, who played a key role in security and humanitarian work inside the Dome. "Don't get me wrong — bad things happened. But I didn't see any killing and raping and cutting of throats or anything ... 99 percent of the people in the Dome were very well-behaved."

Dr. Louis Cataldie, the state Health and Human Services Department administrator overseeing the body-recovery operation, said his teams were inundated with false reports.

Orleans Parish District Attorney Eddie Jordan said authorities have only confirmed four murders in the entire city in the aftermath of Katrina — making it a typical week in a city that anticipated more than 200 homicides this year.

"I had the impression that at least 40 or 50 murders had occurred at the two sites," he said. "It's unfortunate we saw these kinds of stories saying crime had taken place on a massive scale when that wasn't the case. And they [national media outlets] have done nothing to follow up on any of these cases; they just accepted what people [on the street] told them. ... It's not consistent with the highest standards of journalism."

As floodwaters forced tens of thousands of evacuees into the Dome and Convention Center, news of unspeakable acts poured out of the nation's media: People firing at helicopters trying to save them; women, children and even babies raped with abandon; people murdered for food and water; a 7-year-old raped and killed at the Convention Center.

Police, according to their chief, Eddie Compass, found themselves in multiple shootouts inside both shelters, and were forced to race toward muzzle flashes through the dark to disarm the criminals; snipers fired at doctors and soldiers from downtown high-rises.

In interviews with Oprah Winfrey, Compass reported rapes of "babies," and Mayor Ray Nagin spoke of "hundreds of armed gang members killing and raping people" inside the Dome. Other unidentified evacuees told of children stepping over so many bodies "we couldn't count."

The picture that emerged was one of the impoverished, overwhelmingly African-American masses of flood victims resorting to utter depravity, randomly attacking each other, as well as the police trying to protect them and the rescue workers trying to save them. The mayor told Winfrey the crowd has descended to an "almost animalistic state."

Four weeks after the storm, few of the widely reported atrocities have been backed with evidence. The piles of murdered bodies never materialized, and soldiers, police officers and rescue personnel on the front lines assert that, while anarchy reigned at times and people suffered indignities, most of the worst crimes reported at the time never happened.

"The information I had at the time, I thought it was credible," Compass said, admitting his earlier statements were false. Asked the source of the information, Compass said he didn't remember.

Nagin frankly acknowledged he doesn't know the extent of the mayhem that occurred inside the Superdome and the Convention Center — and may never. "I'm having a hard time getting a good body count," he said.

Compass conceded that rumor had overtaken, and often crippled, authorities' response to reported lawlessness, sending badly needed resources to situations that turned out not to exist.

Military, law-enforcement and medical workers agree that the flood of evacuees — about 30,000 at the Dome and an estimated 10,000 to 20,000 at the Convention Center — overwhelmed their security personnel.

The 400 to 500 soldiers in the Dome could have been easily overrun by increasingly agitated crowds in the Dome, but that never happened, said Col. James Knotts, a midlevel commander there. While the Convention Center saw plenty of mischief, including massive looting and isolated gunfire, and many inside cowered in fear, the hordes of evacuees for the most part did not resort to violence.

"Everything was embellished, everything was exaggerated," said Deputy Police Superintendent Warren Riley. "If one guy said he saw six bodies, then another guy the same six, and another guy saw them — then that became 18."

Inside the Superdome, where National Guardsmen performed rigorous security checks before allowing anyone inside, only one shooting has been verified — and even that shooting, injuring Louisiana Guardsman Chris Watt of the 527th Engineer Battalion, has been widely misreported, said Maj. David Baldwin, who led the team of soldiers who arrested the alleged assailant.

Watt had indeed been attacked inside one of the Dome's locker rooms, where he entered with another soldier. In the darkness, as they walked through about six inches of water, Watt's attacker hit him with a metal rod, a piece of a cot. But the bullet that penetrated Watt's leg came from his own gun — he accidentally shot himself during the commotion. The attacker was sent to jail, Baldwin said.

Inside the Convention Center, Jimmie Fore, vice president of the state authority that runs the center, stayed in the building with a core group of 35 employees until Thursday. He said thugs hot-wired 75 forklifts and electric carts and looted food and booze, but he said he never saw any violent crimes committed, nor did any of his employees. Some, however, did report seeing armed men roaming the building, and Fore said he heard gunshots in the distance on about six occasions.

Rumors of rampant violence at the Convention Center prompted Louisiana National Guard Col. Jacques Thibodeaux to put together a 1,000-man force of soldiers and police in full battle gear to secure the center around noon on Friday.

NEW ORLEANS — After five days managing near riots, medical horrors and unspeakable living conditions inside the Superdome, Louisiana National Guard Col. Thomas Beron prepared to hand over the dead to representatives of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Following days of internationally reported murders, rapes and gang violence inside the stadium, the doctor from FEMA — Beron doesn't remember his name — came prepared for a grisly scene: He brought a refrigerated 18-wheeler and three doctors to process bodies.

"I've got a report of 200 bodies in the Dome," Beron recalled the doctor saying.

The real total?

Six, Beron said.

Of those, four died of natural causes, one overdosed and another jumped to his death in an apparent suicide, said Beron, who personally oversaw the handoff of bodies from a Dome freezer, where they lay atop melting bags of ice.

State health department officials in charge of body recovery put the official death count at the Dome at 10, but Beron said the other four bodies were found in the street near the Dome, not inside it. Both sources said no one had been murdered inside the stadium.

At the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, just four bodies have been recovered, despite reports of heaps of dead piled inside the building. Only one of the dead appeared to have been murdered, said health and law-enforcement officials.

That the nation's frontline emergency-management officials believed the body count would resemble that of a bloody battle in a war is but one of scores of examples of myths about the Dome and the Convention Center treated as fact by evacuees, the news media and even some of the city's top officials, including the mayor and police superintendent.

The vast majority of reported atrocities committed by evacuees — mass murders, rapes and beatings — have turned out to be false, or at least unsupported by any evidence, according to key military, law-enforcement, medical and civilian officials in positions to know.

"I think 99 percent of it is [expletive]," said Sgt. 1st Class Jason Lachney, who played a key role in security and humanitarian work inside the Dome. "Don't get me wrong — bad things happened. But I didn't see any killing and raping and cutting of throats or anything ... 99 percent of the people in the Dome were very well-behaved."

Dr. Louis Cataldie, the state Health and Human Services Department administrator overseeing the body-recovery operation, said his teams were inundated with false reports.

Orleans Parish District Attorney Eddie Jordan said authorities have only confirmed four murders in the entire city in the aftermath of Katrina — making it a typical week in a city that anticipated more than 200 homicides this year.

"I had the impression that at least 40 or 50 murders had occurred at the two sites," he said. "It's unfortunate we saw these kinds of stories saying crime had taken place on a massive scale when that wasn't the case. And they [national media outlets] have done nothing to follow up on any of these cases; they just accepted what people [on the street] told them. ... It's not consistent with the highest standards of journalism."

As floodwaters forced tens of thousands of evacuees into the Dome and Convention Center, news of unspeakable acts poured out of the nation's media: People firing at helicopters trying to save them; women, children and even babies raped with abandon; people murdered for food and water; a 7-year-old raped and killed at the Convention Center.

Police, according to their chief, Eddie Compass, found themselves in multiple shootouts inside both shelters, and were forced to race toward muzzle flashes through the dark to disarm the criminals; snipers fired at doctors and soldiers from downtown high-rises.

In interviews with Oprah Winfrey, Compass reported rapes of "babies," and Mayor Ray Nagin spoke of "hundreds of armed gang members killing and raping people" inside the Dome. Other unidentified evacuees told of children stepping over so many bodies "we couldn't count."

The picture that emerged was one of the impoverished, overwhelmingly African-American masses of flood victims resorting to utter depravity, randomly attacking each other, as well as the police trying to protect them and the rescue workers trying to save them. The mayor told Winfrey the crowd has descended to an "almost animalistic state."

Four weeks after the storm, few of the widely reported atrocities have been backed with evidence. The piles of murdered bodies never materialized, and soldiers, police officers and rescue personnel on the front lines assert that, while anarchy reigned at times and people suffered indignities, most of the worst crimes reported at the time never happened.

"The information I had at the time, I thought it was credible," Compass said, admitting his earlier statements were false. Asked the source of the information, Compass said he didn't remember.

Nagin frankly acknowledged he doesn't know the extent of the mayhem that occurred inside the Superdome and the Convention Center — and may never. "I'm having a hard time getting a good body count," he said.

Compass conceded that rumor had overtaken, and often crippled, authorities' response to reported lawlessness, sending badly needed resources to situations that turned out not to exist.

Military, law-enforcement and medical workers agree that the flood of evacuees — about 30,000 at the Dome and an estimated 10,000 to 20,000 at the Convention Center — overwhelmed their security personnel.

The 400 to 500 soldiers in the Dome could have been easily overrun by increasingly agitated crowds in the Dome, but that never happened, said Col. James Knotts, a midlevel commander there. While the Convention Center saw plenty of mischief, including massive looting and isolated gunfire, and many inside cowered in fear, the hordes of evacuees for the most part did not resort to violence.

"Everything was embellished, everything was exaggerated," said Deputy Police Superintendent Warren Riley. "If one guy said he saw six bodies, then another guy the same six, and another guy saw them — then that became 18."

Inside the Superdome, where National Guardsmen performed rigorous security checks before allowing anyone inside, only one shooting has been verified — and even that shooting, injuring Louisiana Guardsman Chris Watt of the 527th Engineer Battalion, has been widely misreported, said Maj. David Baldwin, who led the team of soldiers who arrested the alleged assailant.

Watt had indeed been attacked inside one of the Dome's locker rooms, where he entered with another soldier. In the darkness, as they walked through about six inches of water, Watt's attacker hit him with a metal rod, a piece of a cot. But the bullet that penetrated Watt's leg came from his own gun — he accidentally shot himself during the commotion. The attacker was sent to jail, Baldwin said.

Inside the Convention Center, Jimmie Fore, vice president of the state authority that runs the center, stayed in the building with a core group of 35 employees until Thursday. He said thugs hot-wired 75 forklifts and electric carts and looted food and booze, but he said he never saw any violent crimes committed, nor did any of his employees. Some, however, did report seeing armed men roaming the building, and Fore said he heard gunshots in the distance on about six occasions.

Rumors of rampant violence at the Convention Center prompted Louisiana National Guard Col. Jacques Thibodeaux to put together a 1,000-man force of soldiers and police in full battle gear to secure the center around noon on Friday.

Michael Brown's rise to the top position at FEMA, critics say, came about because of his close relationship with Joe Allbaugh, who happened to be President George W. Bush's campaign director in 2000, and who subsequently was installed as the head of FEMA in 2001.

"I picked him because he is a good man who knows how to run a very important organization and I am proud of my friend," said President Bush when he chose Allbaugh for the job.

Cronyism, or showing favor to old friends or family, is nothing new in Washington. President John F. Kennedy made his brother, Robert F. Kennedy, attorney general in 1961 and President Bill Clinton put his wife Hillary Rodham Clinton in charge of his health care plan, arguably one of the largest policy initiatives of his first term.

Taking care of political friends or people who worked on the winning presidential campaign is so common that the government publishes a must-read book every four years titled the "United States Government Policy and Supporting Positions" or the "Plum Book."

The book is essentially a catalogue of want ads. It lists the roughly 3,000 political appointee jobs that the president or his White House personnel office are responsible for filling. They range from the secretary of education to the commissioner of the Marine Mammal Commission.

"You can go through it and select the position and the title that you might like to have, like the associate deputy under secretary of interior," said Paul Light, a professor of public service at New York University.

The drive to fill these positions sometimes can emphasize the political loyalty of the candidate versus their experience.

"It's one thing to bring in friends, people you are close to who are qualified for the job," said Noble. "It's another thing for people to be getting the job only because they are friends and they are not qualified for the job."

Brown's handling of the Katrina aftermath exposed his lack of experience in disaster management and opened other Bush political appointees to scrutiny.

Critics single out the nomination of Julie Myers as a case where political connections trump qualifications.

Myers, 36, is in line to become the head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under the Department of Homeland Security.

Democrats say her resume is too thin for such an important job and her positions with the White House, Justice and Treasury departments in no way prepare her to deal with immigration and terrorism issues or to manage roughly 20,000 employees and a $4 billion budget.

Myers, who worked for Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, is the niece of outgoing Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Richard Myers and recently married Chertoff's chief of staff John Wood.

A former colleague of Myers' dismissed complaints that she is unqualified and told Time magazine Myers is "assertive and strong and smart."

Light doesn't believe the Bush administration is purposefully setting out to install unqualified people in government positions.

"I don't think it's really so much they sit around saying 'what kind of loser can we put in this job' but it's a lack of attention to the need for somebody who knows the job," said the New York University professor.

"So basically you go to the political qualification first and you don't think too much about the expertise needed."

Light said he believes that because there is no "heir apparent" in the White House, some qualified Republicans are reluctant to sign on for a job they know will end in three years.

He also said the Bush administration puts a premium on the loyalty of its appointees, more so than any administration he's studied -- a fact that may scare off some more politically moderate potential appointees.

"If you don't believe what the president believes or more generally what the White House believes, you're not going to get a second look and that narrows the pool to a very small number of people," Light said.

"I think that is starting to show here now in jobs where the administration would like to have some quality and would like to have some expertise."

Dit zijn processen die bij zware buien horen. Niks aan de hand dus. Bovendien zijn de foto's niet van Katrina, ze zijn genomen door stormchaser Mike Hollingshead van gewone buien, het heeft niks met Katrina te maken. Wel is het mogelijk dat rondom Katrina dergelijke buien zijn voorgekomen, maar die zijn dan waarschijnlijk niet zo fotogeniek want de regen belemmert het zicht.

Volgens The New York Times zijn verscheidene verzekeraars gedaagd die geen bedragen willen uitkeren wegens wateroverlast. Zij stellen zich op het standpunt dat mensen met een polis tegen orkaanschade niet ook verzekerd zijn tegen schade door overstromingen die het gevolg waren van een orkaan.

De terugkeer van de meer dan 400.000 mensen die nog altijd buiten hun regio's worden opgevangen na orkaan Katrina, loopt forse vertraging op. Nog steeds zijn er te weinig tijdelijke huizen, appartementen of kamers beschikbaar om dakloze mensen weer in hun eigen stad of dorp onderdak te bieden.
