There was a draft where Matt climbs into the shower with me. I lobbied for it for a while, because I thought, Hey, we've come this far.

What hooked you on this material?
People seem to walk out of the movie with the same reaction I had when I read the script, which is: Oh my God, I can't believe I actually liked that! When I read the first 15 pages or so, I was like, Wow, this is really trashy. But then it took a turn. It surprised me. Then it surprised me again, and by the end of the script, I put it down and said to Kyra [his wife, actress Kyra Sedgwick], "Honey, I just read this thing, and you're not gonna believe that I like it." But she read it, and she dug it, too.

There is a sense of disreputable glee to the whole affair.
My dream was always that an audience would be amused and shocked and turned on and surprised. This is a movie that's really just about having fun. We don't take it too seriously.

Well, it certainly has something to titillate, and potentially offend, everybody.
Some people won't get it. And certainly some people will be offended. It will appeal to young guys, but my hope Kevin's "other" side came out when you Q&A'd the singin' Bacon Brothers
is that people over 25 will quietly admit they saw the movie--whispering at cocktail parties or something.

Now, about your full monty. That was a nice gesture after all the wet-shirt and topless shots of the girls.
It was never really planned. Obviously, I was always going to be nude in the shower, from the back. But Matt probably didn't hit his mark in one take when he was supposed to be blocking me. What happened was, they were cutting the movie together, and they had to call and tell me, "Listen, the way it's cutting now, it's all there"--because it's in my contract that I don't have any frontal nudity. Since I was an executive producer, I could've had a lawsuit against myself. But I didn't have any objections to doing it. I honestly am surprised it's such a big deal.

That's putting it mildly. Evidently, it wasn't a cold shower.
