A great party for an immense champion. Before this afternoon’s clash with Bari at the Olimpico, Alessandro Del Piero will be honoured for the latest milestone in his career, 500 appearances in the black and white of Juventus. The club and FIAT will together present the captain with a personalised number plate and a scale model of the new Cinquecento. The presentation is just a prelude to what the captain will receive when it is officially released in mid-September: the keys to the tenth model of the new edition Cinquecento to come off the FIAT production line.

September also marks the fourteenth anniversary of a certain Foggia-Juventus (12th September 1993), a game with a special place in the history books. Not for the score-line, a straight forward 1-1 draw on the 4th day of the championship, but for the debut of a rather promising youngster, a 74th minute substitute for the afternoon’s goal scorer Fabrizio Ravanelli. It was Alessandro Del Piero’s first minute in a Juventus shirt, and the game signalled the beginning of a truly remarkable career.
Since then Alex has become the greatest of all time, smashing every possible record. He’s already the club’s record goal scorer and he now becomes only the third player in history to make 500 appearances for Juventus, edging ever closer to the records of the legendary Gaetano Scirea (552) and Beppe Furino (528).

Juventus came to a partnership agreement as "Official Sponsor" with FIAT Group.
The agreement concerns all the competions for a period of three years, from July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2010. The trademark that will appear on Juventus' shirts in the 2007-2008 season is "New Holland", leader firm in the international market of agricultural machines and ground motion.

From an economic point of view, the agreement provides for a fixed compensation of a total 33 million euros, and a variable compensation (the so called "performance bonus), depending on the results.

The agreement is in line with the forecast of the mid term Development Plan, and was achieved in the full respect of the announced timing.

The Juventus managing director expressed his satisfaction for the agreement: "the fact that the biggest private, industrial group in Italy, essential heritage of the national economy, and that is present on the international markets, decided to invest on Juventus, is a reason to be proud, and it confirms the reliance of the firms' world on our project".

ROTTERDAM/TURIJN - Basta! Genoeg! Met die kreet op hun speciaal vervaardigde T-shirts vierden de spelers van Juventus zondagmiddag hun terugkeer naar het hoogste podium. Een jaar na de degradatie naar de Serie B is ‘Juve’ alweer op de plek waar het hoort.

Genoeg gestraft en genoeg vernederd, zo gaven de Juventus-vedetten aan met de shirts. De oude dame van het Italiaanse voetbal, 27 keer landskampioen in de 110 jaar van de club, werd vorige zomer hard gestraft en teruggezet naar de Serie B.

Bestuursleden van de club hadden de jaren ervoor scheidsrechtersbazen onder druk gezet en met andere corruptiepraktijken wedstrijden beīnvloed. Om die reden moest Juventus zijn landstitels van 2005 en 2006 teruggeven aan de Italiaanse voetbalbond.

Oorspronkelijk eiste het tuchtcollege ook dat de club uit Turijn in de Serie B begon met 30 verliespunten. Die straf werd later teruggebracht tot 17 verliespunten en in november van het afgelopen jaar bepaalde de rechter uiteindelijk dat 9 punten in mindering als sanctie volstonden.

Op dat moment wisten ze in Turijn dat het Italiaanse voetbal binnen een jaar zijn topclub weer in de hoogste afdeling zou hebben. Daarbij waren de nieuwe bestuurders en supporters trainer Didier Deschamps en een aantal kopstukken binnen het elftal dankbaar voor hun loyaliteit.

Een half elftal topspelers wist na het bekendmaken van de degradatie vorig jaar niet hoe snel het zinkende schip moest worden verlaten. Patrick Vieira en Zlatan Ibrahimovic tekenden vlug een contract bij Inter Milaan. Fabio Cannavaro en Emerson volgden trainer Fabio Capello naar Real Madrid. Lilian Thuram en Gianluca Zambrotta gingen met de eerste verhuiswagen mee naar Barcelona.

Als oud-speler en opvolger van Capello voelde Didier Deschamps zich genoodzaakt kwaliteit aan boord te houden om de promotie naar de Serie A in het rampjaar van de club te bewerkstelligen. De Fransman, die AS Monaco naar de Champions League-finale had geleid in 2004, haalde zijn neus niet op voor het voetbal op een lager niveau.

Deschamps deed een beroep op Alessandro Del Piero, die Juventus-bloed door de aderen heeft stromen. Del Piero zei dat hij onder alle omstandigheden zou blijven. Daarna trokken ze samen ook doelman Buffon, Camoranesi, Trezeguet en de Tsjechische topper Nedved over de streep.

,,Ik ben trots op deze jongens en op de club,’’ zei Deschamps gisteren. ,,Met elkaar hebben we de club teruggebracht waar die hoort. We hebben na de 5-1 zege van zondag ook een feestje gebouwd. Dat verdienden de spelers. Dit succes kan niet in de schaduw staan van andere trofeeën die Juventus heeft veroverd. Maar ik weet zeker dat deze bladzijde in de geschiedenisboeken van de club nooit zal verdwijnen. Dit seizoen was een avontuur dat iedereen als mens zeer heeft geraakt.’’

De Juventus-leiding heeft voor zijn coach, maar ook voor doelman Buffon nieuwe contracten klaarliggen. Sportief directeur Secco: ,,De club heeft erg geleden, maar we hebben voldoende middelen om te kunnen concurreren met de top. Deschamps kan zijn elftal versterken.’’
